What is your earliest TV memory?

Mine is coming down for a cuddle with my mum (not a regular occurrence) and Emmerdale being on. Derek Pollard was in some kind of restaurant or bistro arguing with a brunette lady. Emmerdale is on quite early so I'm guessing I must have been 3ish as I went to bed and got back up again.

Another recollection of Watch with Mother here. I think my earliest memory is of Andy Pandy but I also remember Bill and Ben and the Wooden tops. Sooty and Sweep was another favourite. I was also taken to see that at the theatre but was too shy to go on stage when the children were called up. I was another member of the Tinga and Tucker Club and recall the wibbly wobbley way.

I also, sadly, have a resounding memory of watching Aberfan unfold on the news and the picture of the black slag heaps.

Yes I went to see Sooty and Sweep in London with Harry Corbett

watching mary Munro and midge at lunchtime and Rupert the Bear would suspect very early 70s

StarCourt · 20/06/2022 22:14

@Plantstrees I remember Tinga and Tucker. We also had a Tinga and Tucker LP!

Charles & Diana's wedding

Oh gosh yes! I remember this too. I was only 18 months old but I remember sitting on the floor with crisps and chocolate (not normally allowed!) to keep me quiet so the grownups could watch the wedding.

Tickle on the Tum. Nobody ever remembers it but I loved it.

I remember this too. Probably around 1985? Ralph McTell in a post office or corner shop?

Sorry for darkening the tone of the thread.

I was five, and we didn't have a television. I went to play after school at a little schoolfriend's house, and we watched The Flowerpot Men. I was absolutely mesmerised!

Hawkins001 · 20/06/2022 23:03

Watching glam metal detectives show, sorta comedy type show. And watching films regardless of the age rating. E.g. Mortal kombat, robocop, etc when I was 12+

Sorry for darkening the tone of the thread.

I was chatting online when someone came in the group to announce it, at first I thought it was a hoax, then mid afternoon put the news on, and omg 😲.

Afrodizzyak · 20/06/2022 23:27

Andy Pandy
Tales of the Riverbank (Johnny Morris's lovely voiceovers)
Coronation Street in black and white with Ena Sharples wearing that awful hairnet.

Henerlo · 20/06/2022 23:32

Pebble Mill At One. I loved that programme.

Also Michael Bentine's Potty Time which I thought was a bit scary.

PlanetNormal · 20/06/2022 23:46

I remember Andy Pandy vaguely, and Play School & Magic Roundabout well. The first Blue Peter presenters I remember were Peter Purves, John Noakes & Lesley Judd.

Squiff70 · 20/06/2022 23:49

Yep, Button Moon. I would have been 2 or 3.
