From the independent:

Mr Johnson told the BBC he "humbly and sincerely" accepts the criticism he is facing
But speaking on Radio 4's Today programme he said he had to distinguish between "criticism that matters and criticism that doesn't"

….and the evidence is that literally no criticism matters from where I’m sitting.

Carrie J apparently has an office, aides and a spokesperson. Yet no job? Why am I not surprised?

Doesn't she work for Goldsmith? Director of Comms or something?

WaitroseWoman · 25/06/2022 10:53

But it is known that deep down at heart he's a liberalist.
A true liberalist is not a bigot. Boris Johnson is certainly very liberal with the truth, our lives, our money, the contents of his trousers...

Which she isn't, not while we have a Queen, and even when the Queen dies that baton will pass to Camilla.

Thank goodness for that, @Peregrina but I'm not sure anyone told Carrie

Notonthestairs · 25/06/2022 11:01

"Surely by now his parliamentary party have understood that yet another attempted “re-set” of Johnson’s premiership would be futile. Nobody will listen. The original Prodigal Son was lucky on his return. This one will not get another hearing from the public. There comes a point when some kind of a switch is thrown in the national consciousness. From now on, “la-la-la we’re not listening” will be the response. Rightly or not (I think rightly) the electorate now think they know Johnson. He is dead to them. Even if he did change, they would not be persuaded to see him differently."

I think this from Matthew Parris is spot on. He's exhausted peoples patience. He may well carry on but the perception is that he is dishonest and increasingly a bit desperate.

At same time of the tree house idea, Johnson made his party vote against feeding vulnerable hungry children at Christmas during a pandemic

In some respects, it would be lovely if he does stay on until the next GE and then has to formally give up 10 Downing Street to the Labour leader - having destroyed the Conservative Party through his hubris.

I would love it if he both lost his seat and destroyed the Tory Party in the process. Would he then resign whistling a happy tune as Cameron did, or would we see tears a la Thatcher/May, or just plain old boorish Boris bluster?

The day will come when he is gone because all political careers end in failure.

Peregrina · 25/06/2022 11:43

There is some truth in this: criticism from people who don't like you and will criticise you whatever you do can probably be ignored. Criticism from one time friends like Dowden should be listened to.

DuncinToffee · 25/06/2022 11:45

I don't know which interview this is from, Adam Bienkov
Asked what would actually force him to resign, Boris Johnson says if his Cabinet forced him to stop defending Ukraine.

If BJ lost his seat, he'd have to resign Grin

prettybird · 25/06/2022 11:49

....although I'm sure he'd try to find some way of wriggling out of that necessity. After all, in his head he's "king of the world" Wink

Given all the links to wealthy Russians, the Boris doth protest too much, me thinks.

Peregrina · 25/06/2022 12:09

His insistence on defending Ukraine (or making a show of it without actually doing much), could be yet another reason why his party suffered a rout on Thursday. When the chips are down, if people are struggling to keep their own heads above water, are they going to be all that pleased when someone throws the lifebelt elsewhere?

Does he even know what humble and sincere mean? You cannot follow humble and sincere apologies with the word 'but'.

DuncinToffee · 25/06/2022 12:26

He lies, cheats, breaks laws and blames everyone else, humble and sincere Grin

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 25/06/2022 12:30

He is sincere when he blames everyone else though.

prettybird · 25/06/2022 12:31

...from that William Stewart Twitter thread:

"Parish shouldn’t have resigned,” one MP said. “He should have just gone away with his wife for a few weeks and then come back to the job. I don’t know why the girls had to speak out like that.” Another said the witnesses were “like a turd in the swimming pool” after the defeat [my bolds]

Nice to know what they really think of the women parliamentarians and the victim blaming going on Angry - but why does it not surprise me? AngryHmm

Fucking hell! Horrendous. He shouldn't have resigned and should just have taken a break with his wife and then come back?! The guy was watching tractor porn when he was being paid, by us, to work for us! The tractor wanker should most definitely have resigned, those who reported him absolutely did the right thing, and he should count himself lucky he hasn't faced some kind of criminal charges. Wtf is wrong with these people that they can't see how utterly disgraceful it is to be watching porn in work meetings?! These kinds of attitudes are why the Tories deserve to be completely destroyed. It is an absolute privilege to be chosen to represent your community not something to be wanked all over.

Peregrina · 25/06/2022 12:45

Parish could have asked his party to let him stand again. Perhaps they should have allowed him to, and then let the voters decide whether they found that watching porn on the job was acceptable.

In the normal course of events this is a seat where you would have expected the Tory candidate to get in fairly comfortably but still with a reduced majority 10,000 ish instead of 24,000.

I thought Gordon Brown did it with dignity, walking away holding hands with his wife and children.

Notonthestairs · 25/06/2022 12:52

Those messages deserve to be read far & wide. The Conservative mask of knowing what a woman is (for).
Despicable.

Ginajo · 25/06/2022 13:06

I think Carrie Johnson does have a job - with the Aspinall Foundation? They were recently being investigated for financial irregularities, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure how much of a job it really is though.....
