The Times has a story about Johnson asking Lord Brownlow to pay towards £150,000 treehouse for Wilf at Chequers. (Lord Brownlow stumped up £60k for wallpaper and £52,000 for Tory party. I'm sure he expected nothing in return)

Johnson was apparently talked out of it for security reasons and optics. A treehouse that would cost more than many homes in the Uk.

Drip, drip, drip.

Interesting that The Times will run this story but pull the Carrie Johnson story a week ago. A bit difficult to take their reporting seriously.

I am eagerly waiting Clav to come along and post a link to an overpriced treehouse that Sir Keir had built for the donkeys at the sanctuary.

Roussette · 25/06/2022 07:38

I honestly think the treehouse sums it all up. £150,000 with bullet proof glass Shock
What it means to me is... BJ will take anything from anyone, he will leech off of donors, the public, mates, ... all in exchange for favours. As will other ministers.

It's like Zahawi tweeting this morning about the laser like focus of the Govt.
Let's not forget this is the man who claimed £6,000 on expenses to heat his stables and keep his horses warm. Shame he's not interested in keeping humans warm. He voted against VAT cuts to energy bills.

That tree house story is the stuff of Versailles.

Although I suppose it might have been Carrie’s idea, wanting to leave her mark for posterity, like a First Lady at the White House and one of those garden designs.

She does seem to have some rather fanciful ideas, especially about her status. I’m not a fan.

Although my stance is that KS acted within the rules at the time of his beergate I do wonder what the line would be if he goes?

I mean the tories are still going to Tory and Boris is still going to Boris. How are they going to spin a completely fresh leader with no link to recent history?

I suppose the whole position requires a degree of delusion.

Its odd to think how different things might have been if Mariana was still BJ’s wife. He’s clearly quite heavily influenced by his inner circle.

ApplesandBunions · 25/06/2022 08:05

The current Mrs Johnson does appear to have some notions, it's true.

In which the beverage of choice was beer, naturally.

Roussette · 25/06/2022 08:22

You're all being so polite!

I think she's ruthless!
I will be polite now... I think they are well suited. They deserve each other

Zonder · 25/06/2022 08:25

The current Mrs Johnson hopefully doesn't have long left to make her mark as FLOTUK. And not just because he has moved on to the next wife.

Zonder · 25/06/2022 08:33

Typical Johnson interview on radio 4 now.

Interviewer: bla bla lots going wrong for you,
people want you to resign, list of disasters
BJ: let's look at it in a more cheery way

We have got Brexit done, doing what the British people want...

it doesn’t help that she doesn’t appear to ‘do’ anything. I can’t recall a PM who had a spouse that wasn’t established and active in their own career away from politics. On the surface it does seem to deflect scrutiny away from what they’re up to in No. 10.

@Zonder if this was someone I knew, at this point, I’d be advising therapy of some description. His deflection and denial of basic facts is starting to look like sickness.

Roussette · 25/06/2022 08:51

So agree Zonder. I watched it. What a frustrating experience that was.

"The public want... " he then ignores what the public wants, illustrated by the massive about turn in Devon

There was a lot of 'getting on with the job'.

AngryAngry I'm disgusted with him and his enablers.

Peregrina · 25/06/2022 09:14

We have got Brexit done, doing what the British people want...

So is this why two Leave voting constituencies rejected the Tory candidate?

Peregrina · 25/06/2022 09:16

Which she isn't, not while we have a Queen, and even when the Queen dies that baton will pass to Camilla.

The British public is supposedly fed up of hearing how he stuffed up and the by-election defeats are minimised as a "safety valve", says the PM in an interview with Sky Hmm

Norma Major didn't have a particular career as I recall, but she mostly lived out of the limelight at home in the Constituency.

She did also do a lot of charity work, which I know is a cliche but Mencap at least seem to have found her contribution beneficial. So she used her time well.

Cornettoninja · 25/06/2022 09:25

Boris Johnson says voters fed up of hearing how he 'stuffed up'

Yes mate, we are, but the conclusion is wrong.

I don’t want him ‘getting on’ with anything, his capabilities are well evidenced and I want him as far away from Downing Street as possible.

Cornettoninja · 25/06/2022 09:30

Ah, I’m a bit young to remember the Major years in that much detail. (Don’t get to say that very often Grin)

It does suggest that living away from No. 10 is a good move for spouses without a career. I think Carrie has some involvement with charities but that bleeds into politics a bit too easily if you’re not bound by professional concerns I imagine.

We are indeed fed up of hearing how he stuffed up. The remedy for that is to stop stuffing up. And, since he's actually incapable of doing that, resigning.

newnamethanks · 25/06/2022 10:10

Carrie J apparently has an office, aides and a spokesperson. Yet no job? Why am I not surprised?

"Johnson actually does have some very hood fair and liberal socialist views on things. "

I think he'll say whatever his audience expects/wants. London mayor - go liberal. Big Dog of Brexit - go right. Not enough? Farage beating him? Go right a bit more.
Who knows what his real views are. I doubt he has any left to cling to.

Fair point.

But it is known that deep down at heart he's a liberalist.

That's why he hated lockdown and dithered and likely why he didn't follow the rules himself

And the education bill they are pushing through at the minute.

Parents will soon have little to no rights over their own children dedication.

prettybird · 25/06/2022 10:24

And, since he's actually incapable of doing that, resigning.

By his own admission, a psychological transformation is not going to occur. PM: I will not undergo psychological transformation after poll defeat https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61934851

But unfortunately that also means that he doesn't have - and will never have - the self-awareness to resign. He'll have to be prised out with a crow bar.

In some respects, it would be lovely if he does stay on until the next GE and then has to formally give up 10 Downing Street to the Labour leader - having destroyed the Conservative Party through his hubris. Wink

But unfortunately, he's destroying the fabric of the UK (both economically and culturally) in the process Sad
