'He's Big Log to me'

Big log? Yet folk on here and other threads get so outraged over Sir Beer Grin

Any comment on the results in Tiverton and in Wakefield, Janiie? You don't think losing a seat that has been held for 100 years is just a teeny tiny bit concerning and a bit more important than what epithet is applied to the corrupt fucker that is continue to squat in No 10 (or at least will continue to do when he dares to actually show his face in the UK)?

ClaudineClare · 24/06/2022 13:38

Continuing to squat.

SueSaid · 24/06/2022 13:41

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 13:27

Janii- if you are busy complaining about how MN refers to Johnson you've rather missed today's big political story.

Oh no I'm fully aware I've been discussing it elsewhere. It wasn't a massive surprise. Frost on Twitter speaks sense, low turnout but change is obviously needed.

I just like to remind some of you on these threads you shouldn't complain about Sir Beer or Ange then say Big Log or Big Baby. Makes you look a bit contrary tbh.

I suspect they'll appoint another co-chair rather than have Elliot (and his business model) become more prominent.

I would have thought that it was a good example of the upwardly mobile vote winning policies that we have come to expect from this government.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 13:44

I suspect many in the Conservative party are calling Johnson a lot worse names right now.

The whole point of any political party is to get their voters out to the ballot box. If they can't do that they are finished.

I don't care.

I'm on a bit of a high this morning Grin

@ClaudineClare it is against the rules of interacting with JJ to ask them questions or expect them to comment on the current topic.

I am still waiting to learn why it was in their view acceptable for a 56 year to have a birthday party whilst denying that opportunity to millions of children.

ClaudineClare · 24/06/2022 13:48

low turnout but change is obviously needed.

The turnout in Tiverton was above average for a by-election - 52.0%. Average, turnout at by-elections is 50.9%.

@JaniieJones are you aware that Big Dog was the name given to Boris by Boris in the Spring?

The low turnout in Tiverton and Honiton was higher than the turnout in some constituencies in the 2019 general election, but I suppose like Big Dog you don't like facts when they get in your way?

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 14:10

"but change is obviously needed. "

I overlooked this bit Janii - what change do you think is needed?

ApplesandBunions · 24/06/2022 14:14

Yes, the Tiverton turnout was really high for a byelection. Worth thinking about the significance of that.

L1ttledrummergirl · 24/06/2022 14:21

A question for the 211 mps that were happy to continue rolling in the shit made by Johnson and those who are supporting him on this thread.

How bad does the stench of corruption and greed have to get before you have enough and climb out of the gutter?

Follow up question. How do you plan to convince the electorate that you are clean and untouched by this gross stain on British values?

It seems for the cabinet that even losing such a big majority isn't enough, so whatever shit Johnson is offering must be gold plated.

newnamethanks · 24/06/2022 14:22

Ben Elliot? Believe he throws a good party, what more could they ask for? Perhaps he'll arrange a celebration for BJs return next week. A week is a long time in politics said Harold Macmillan. Best bear that in mind.

I think it's because so many of them know they owe their positions to their loyalty rather than their competence, and that they couldn't necessarily expect high office otherwise. But they also mostly have quite chunky majorities, so it's not their seats being threatened. Johnson himself has a more vulnerable constituency than most of them.

Oh you again..

Johnson gave himself a styled name. The other was you working on Starmer's real name.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 14:42

Raab is on a sticky wicket - majority of 2,700 ish.
Johnson's is 7,000 ish.

WaitroseWoman · 24/06/2022 14:42

I want to say thank you to the voters of Wakefield and Tiverton. The world seems to be a slightly better place today.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 14:43

Big Dog doesn't beat The Pritster for gruesomeness IMO.

That is small given what's just happened.

My focus is on my MP with his 20,000 and JRM with his 14,000 maj. The trouble with JRM's constituency is that Labour and Lib Dem are split down the middle, both together they could defeat him.

He is very reduced to what he was and has made a fool of himself lately. No more Leader of HoC but Minister Brexit Opportunities and reduced to talking about the Dartford tunnel, hoovers and mobile phone chargers.

Yes, I think he'll probably lose his seat at the next GE. Unless he somehow ends up PM and they throw a massive amount of resources at the constituency. I know his result in 2019 was punishment for Brexit, but it's not like pissed off soft right types are going to be any happier with his performance since then.

guinnessguzzler · 24/06/2022 14:54

Roussette · 24/06/2022 13:37

I'd be really interested in all the regulars on here... their predictions of how it's going to play out?

Me...
He won't go. He's said this many a time. When my MP, a true loyalist, wants him to go, his time is up. But he missed out on self awareness totally

I think the party will plot against him, and more scandals will emerge. I think the country will descend into chaos as there will be no governance or leadership because of too much in-fighting.

Then... just when it looks like the rules have been changed and there's another VONC he will call a snap GE.

Ooh, great prediction @Roussette

I reckon it will be knives out now as they are all absolutely shitting it that they will lose their seats. Cue weeks of leaks about increasingly scandalous / illegal behaviour that Mr Johnson continues to ignore. Carrie will leave (if she hasn't already) so he will no longer even need to pretend to care about certain potential scandals, and Mr Johnson will convince himself that if he holds on long enough at some point we will all realise we're actually better off with a lying bag of lies with no shame as PM as at least we know where we stand. The Tories will introduce a new slogan for the next election; 'No standards, no shame: you can't blackmail us (but we are open to bribes)' and FINALLY even the most ardent supporters will realise they may not quite have the country's best interests at heart. Mr Johnson will be booted out by his own constituents, rather than his party, and will spend the rest of his life desperately trying, and failing, to fill his inner void while the world moves on and eventually realises that investing in early years is the only way to prevent a whole lot of shit.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2022 15:09

None of the MP's who are finally emerging on twitter are showing explicit support or backing for Johnson.

I think there will be a lot of talking behind the scenes now Johnson is out of the way for 9 days.

He won't go, he will have to be pushed. Still too many rely on him for their job.

We should have three party politics in the UK.
The Tories had rather more than three parties, I think. Wine

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 15:18

Johnson will aim to limp on to summer recess on 23rd July - because there is nothing serious happening in the country at the moment and God knows they need a holiday - and then hit refresh in September.

Between now & then Starmer's future will be settled, Tories will try and get a flight to Rwanda and more unions will ballot members.

Some in the Conservative party will try to force the 1922 committee to change the VONC procedure. Someone will have additional dirt on Johnson to nudge that along.

But given we don't have a Geoffrey Howe (Dowden wasn't it) one of the Senior Backbenchers is going to have to fully commit to standing up to him - full Hesletine. Otherwise they going to paddle around in circles. In the background Johnson will dangle a snap GE to frighten them.

I dunno. Whatever happens it's going to be messy.
