G morning all, lovely day. Rousette you share your MP with my sister. We've been cackling over his remark sometime ago at a public meeting 'I've got a majority of 25k plus so I don't need to be here, goodbye' and wondering what his plans for his future are. He describes himself as a farmer. I'm going to send him a tractor catalogue. Worked well in Devon.

@newnamethanks

He's a pillock. Claims hundreds of thousands ££££££ in expenses year in year out. Has a rural farm on the other side of the country where he spends a lot of time.
No social media. No constituency office. Doesn't answer emails, except an automated reply to say he gets a lot of emails.
Was voted 650th out of 650 in a big survey on responsiveness and availability to constituents in 2019.
I went to the hustings in 2019, he got very eggy when asked about that. It was tightly controlled and no one could really ask him anything.
I have NO idea why people vote for him.

He is now saying his 20,000 seat could be in jeopardy if there was a by election here tomorrow.
He only cares about himself and his seat and the huge expenses and the fact he's old and would be out of a job.

Thank you for allowing me to rant. That's better

And would you believe it...here he is on BBC News

So my MP Treasurer of 1922 committee, has changed his tune somewhat. He says BJ needs to do more. And there is the capability of changing the rules to allow another VONC and that will be discussed.

What makes me sick is... I imagine someone has pointed out to my MP that his seat could be in jeopardy (majority 20,000. Tiv/Honiton 24,000) and that's the only reason he's turned.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2022 09:03

Patel on Times Radio

"What I would say is we have gone through very publicly a very difficult period."

"It's important that we reflect on these results. We fought these against a difficult and challenging backdrop."

You can see what the whatsapp party line directive was.
Maybe someone could remind them of the reasons why the by-elections were called.

There are 290 Tory MPs with majorities less than 24,000...

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 09:04

Self interest will be the only reason Tory MPs will remove Johnson so I'm glad they've got something to worry about.

Roussette · 24/06/2022 09:10

From Byline Times...

"Yet unless something major changes then Johnson is leading his party towards likely defeat at the next general election.
Like the Russian tank battalion slowly ground into the dust on the road to Kyiv, Johnson’s Culture War forces are failing to make the advances either he, or his election strategists so confidently predicted.
And if Conservative MPs now come to the same conclusion, then the biggest loser of the Culture War could soon be the Prime Minister himself."

Peregrina · 24/06/2022 09:12

"We will keep going addressing the concerns of people until we get through this patch"

I recall Maggie Thatcher saying "I fight on, I fight to win." She was gone a couple of days later.

Keep up the good work Boris - if you wreck the current incarnation of the Tory Party and keep them out of office for a couple of decades you will have done us all a big favour.

ApplesandBunions · 24/06/2022 09:13

This is delicious.

Peregrina · 24/06/2022 09:18

Maybe someone could remind them of the reasons why the by-elections were called.

The last seat the Tories retained was I recall James Brokenshire's. He was a well regarded MP whose death was premature.

One lesson that Johnson and his Cabinet need to learn is that the public do not like being played for fools.

I would like to see a bit more analysis of the Tiverton and Honiton by election. At first glance it would suggest that the win wasn't due to Tories staying at home, but actively voting for the LibDems.

Realistically though, those with 24,000 majorities are probably safe, but those with less than 10,000 should worry.

L1ttledrummergirl · 24/06/2022 09:21

Is now a good time to write to my mp and tell her I told her so.
She has a majority less than t/h.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2022 09:21

James Felton's reply to Dowden's resignation letter

I can tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, lies, bullying, a cost of living crisis and partying while tens of thousands of people died, but I draw the line at losing elections because of that

And even then the Tories' majority had been cut from nearly 19,000 to 4,478, with a 10% swing to Labour.

Yeah, I didn't pick up much on it at the time but in retrospect that tells you something. Byelections on the whole usually go against the governing party, but that rule doesn't apply in the same way when the sitting MP has died tragically, particularly if they appear to have been a fairly decent human being.

I wish I could find it, saw it this morning... an analysis for reasons for voting LDs. Partygate was at the top. BJ out of touch with ordinary voters second, if I remember correctly

They’re frit, aren’t they? So edifying.

Fantastic outcomes in Tiverton and in Wakefield- two firsts of many, today, I hope! We should have three party politics in the UK.
Glad the voters in these areas have so strongly registered their disgust with the corruption and incompetence of the Boris Johnson government. His Trumpian hanging on regardless, will do his legacy no favours. What does he think he’s doing?

Cornettoninja · 24/06/2022 10:31

What does he think he’s doing?

he just thinks he’s always in the right. Not one for constructive criticism that one.

Raab is sounding more desperate than usual,
We've got an incredibly positive agenda. The problem has been we've got too many other distractions."

Good luck with that at PMQs on Wednesday Raab.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2022 10:52

And here is Sunak

I’m sad that my colleague and friend Oliver Dowden took the decision to resign this morning.

We all take responsibility for the results and I’m determined to continue working to tackle the cost of living, including delivering NICs changes saving 30 million people on average £330
