The weird world of MN…

Leobynature · 10/06/2022 09:04

I am frequent visitor on MN but sometimes it feels like another world, examples include

  • being told to LTB because he ate the kids chocolate, comments included selfish, abuser and narcissist
  • you are not allowed to ask grandparents for childcare but equally fume silently when they don’t offer *everyone earns £100k per year
  • everyone kids are in a vast amount of out of school activities. Screen time is frowned upon *parents give them a vast amount of money for house deposits *you are expected to pay for your kids until they are way into adulthood but don’t expect them to visit you in old age
  • There is a huge amount of children with SEN and ASD even though they amount to only 1% of children in the population (this is not a judgement/criticism, more of an observation) *Many husbands work FT and are high earners but still should share 50% of the housework, if not LTB *husbands have a secret ‘hobby’ *all kids should have their own room and should not be expected to share.

I may need to visit with some more 😂

Neverending you are quite right ... yet there are multiple threads on where to go on holiday, style and beauty etc etc ... I had to laugh at one comment on S & B recently when someone commented that their 'cost saving suggestion' was to go down to highlights every couple of months instead of monthly or similar Grin

Without the trolls there would be no troll hunting. If you think it's fake report it.

There is troll hunting no matter what. 99.999999% of posters are not trolls yet almost every single thread posted is reported. It's really a Witchhunt on this site, and reporting posts except for racism or spam should be banned.

@Fizbosshoes but drinking lots of alcohol regularly is totally normal. A whole bottle of wine to yourself in an evening is no big deal.

Ha yes, everyone’s husband seems to earn £100k upwards.

There is no grey area where illegality is concerned.

Stealing a grape from the fruit and veg aisle is the same as holding up a bank.

🤣🤣

RampantIvy · 10/06/2022 11:18

Posters’ inability to address any problems annoys me too. ‘Ooh, I can’t cope with confrontation so I’ll just be a total wet lettuce and let people walk all over me’,

These posts are really frustrating to read.

I agree with your "being hormonal" comment @AmaryIlis. These posts just confirm the stereotype and give all women a bad name.

Moonlightdust · 10/06/2022 11:20

Oh and scaremongering. I genuinely felt my anxiety go through the roof at some points during the pandemic reading threads on here. Same applied to when Russia declared war on Ukraine - the posters drumming up fear about nuclear war and end of the world was stressful to read tbh.

Every landlord actively encourages black mould to grow whist doubling the rent every 3 weeks on a property they got for £8.50

AlternativePerspective · 10/06/2022 11:28

Dogs.

Either people are dog haters who firmly believe that no-one should own a dog ever, including some who believe assistance dogs should be banned, that if your children have friends with dogs they may not play round their houses as this will almost certainly end in the death of their child through being savaged by the dog.

Or dog lovers who believe that dogs come above everyone else, and if you don’t love your dog more than your children and wouldn’t be prepared to let your children burn to death in a fire while you save your dog you should immediately rehome it and never own another animal ever again since you are clearly heartless and irresponsible.

No middle ground it would seem.

Yes the (not) answering the front door is very strange. I can only assume the normal people that answer the door don't bother posting!

I know the thread you're referring to. If you had the door knockers I have had you wouldn't find this so strange: bored neighbours children three times asking to stroke my cat and asking for money for sweets in exchange for things, a man I was seeing on-off who it emerged was only using me for sex who would turn up unannounced and try to worm his way back in my life, ex prisoners selling tea towels (I sympathise but it's daunting not knowing if they are genuine and feeling pressurised), fake 'friend' calling unannouned with an ulterior motive I can't post on here, three times salesmen asking me to get a milkman which I also get cold calls about as I once did use their service, a random man who bought an ebay tv bashed on my door as a fake seller pretended to live down my road and he didn't ever get given the tv and didn't know the door number (disconcerting as sounded fake), window cleaner who knocked randomly and pretended I owed him money when I had fully paid (now I don't use him), election canvassers, and Amazon deliveries for people up and down my road which often have been knocks whilst I sleep daytime on night shift! Anyone expected will call me. I still do answer the door if I get a chance to look through the window but some days don't as I'm single and don't feel 100 per cent safe. Also I think of it like junk emails with the potential of it being something dodgy with very little chance of it being something nice.

My explanation isnt aimed at you personally but I feel a bit irritated everyone on that thread sees it as we are all odd or lazy and I genuinely want to show what it's like. This may sound fake but it honestly is 100 percent true (I live in a terra ed busy street)! :-)

"My partner is struggling to maintain an erection during sex"

"It must be porn addictions and death grip..................or he is gay"

"It could be stress related"

"No, its definitely porn addiction..........or he is gay"

"Pretty sure he does not use porn and he is not gay"

"ALL men use porn, every single one, all the time and they all grip their cocks like the fist of an angry god....and he is probably gay"

"Is he diabetic or overweight, suffers from anxiety or a heavy smoker"

"NOOOO, he is a gay porn addicted death gripping selfish arsehole....you are being abused OP, you just don't know it yet, I would get your ducks in a row, get copies of all documents, pension details and house deeds, open a secret bank account and get a free 30 mins consultation with a solicitor"

"Have you left yet OP?"

@DillonPanthersTexas that post did actually make me cry laugh 😂 'fist of an angry god' is killing me every time I read it 😂😂😂

Katya213 · 10/06/2022 11:30

When they ask “should I go to a &? I’m bleeding profusely and my leg is hanging off!” Posters start begging them to go and the OP is giving them 100 reasons why they shouldn’t go and wait til the morning to phone the doctor!!🤔

StarlightLady · 10/06/2022 11:33

The assumption that every woman is heterosexual.

JulyDreams · 10/06/2022 11:33

I know what you mean also OP. I am really conscious about what I post.

topthelot · 10/06/2022 11:35

The SEN/ASD stuff..... As others have said, being a parent of a child with SEN/ASD or similar is lonely as hell. You feel stuck in a big black hole all by yourself with absolutely no way of getting out.

I think some people post suggesting ASD/SEN because they are just being silly or being provocative but others because they genuinely may recognise some of the behaviours - It's one of the reason ASD is so difficult to understand. There is a very fine line between whether a behaviour is due to ASD or just generally misbehaving/pushing boundaries.

Take my DD, people outside of the family think, she is naughty, defiant, rude, aggressive, disobedient. Children judge her and the parents judge me. I have no school parent friends left.

DD has ASD potentially ADHD, she cannot cope with school or the school setting very well. Her teachers also describe her as naughty, defiant, rude, aggressive, disobedient. Every single day is a battle. School do help but have a tainted view. What works on a Thursday may not work on a Friday.

I read parents on here all the time writing about sleep deprivation with their baby or toddler.

My DD is 15. The last time I slept through the night was two weeks before she was born in July 2007.

1% of the population? No, 20% is the figure for people with learning differences.

DillonPanthersTexas · 10/06/2022 11:43

AWOL66

Do you live in the Marrakech souk?

BertieBotts · 10/06/2022 11:45

1% is actually quite a lot, I don't know why people think it means something is incredibly rare. Think about all the hundreds of thousands of posts on MN - if 1% of them are about children with ND that's still thousands of posts.

If you enjoy drinking a glass of wine at home you are an alcoholic and should seek help

Oblomov22 · 10/06/2022 11:53

I find MN mad. I live in a parallel universe.

Like Sparkling says (although I do use bullet points in nearly every work e-Mail but don't know how to on MN) none of my friends are this bonkers.

I do answer the door, I don't have chronic anxiety, I drink but don't consider myself a raving alcoholic. Unlike the rest of MN, I'm not an introvert, I'm an Ambivert - I'm a raving party animal but also like being home alone.

The only reason MN crazy / wierd threads don't drive me mad is because to balance it off I'm lucky enough to be part of nice, balanced, long-standing threads, previously years ago a Mn Post-natal thread, now A'levels.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 10/06/2022 11:59

The amount of shaking and crying that goes on, often about things that don't concern them or happen directly to them. Like, we all see upsetting things in the news, but such a violent physical reaction is a bit OTT Hmm

Some of the comments made by teetotal people are hilarious. Most of the people I know like a drink sometimes and the ones that don't aren't handing out leaflets to AA to the rest of us.

Daenerys77 · 10/06/2022 12:04

You are right about the weirdness, but it will not harm you if you take basic precautions, like discounting 90 per cent of everything as exaggeration.
