The weird world of MN…

I am frequent visitor on MN but sometimes it feels like another world, examples include

  • being told to LTB because he ate the kids chocolate, comments included selfish, abuser and narcissist
  • you are not allowed to ask grandparents for childcare but equally fume silently when they don’t offer *everyone earns £100k per year
  • everyone kids are in a vast amount of out of school activities. Screen time is frowned upon *parents give them a vast amount of money for house deposits *you are expected to pay for your kids until they are way into adulthood but don’t expect them to visit you in old age
  • There is a huge amount of children with SEN and ASD even though they amount to only 1% of children in the population (this is not a judgement/criticism, more of an observation) *Many husbands work FT and are high earners but still should share 50% of the housework, if not LTB *husbands have a secret ‘hobby’ *all kids should have their own room and should not be expected to share.

I may need to visit with some more 😂

What does your oh do?

Horaciochops · 10/06/2022 13:12

The strange misplaced smuggery when your daughter doesn't like wearing dresses.

Topgub · 10/06/2022 13:13

I only joined mn a few weeks ago and it's like going back in time 20 years tbh especially in terms of attitudes towards working mums

But fora idiosyncrasies are common.

Most of them have insertforumname land things that those who use them think ard unique to that site

"My partner is struggling to maintain an erection during sex"

"It must be porn addictions and death grip..................or he is gay"

"It could be stress related"

"No, its definitely porn addiction..........or he is gay"

"Pretty sure he does not use porn and he is not gay"

"ALL men use porn, every single one, all the time and they all grip their cocks like the fist of an angry god....and he is probably gay"

"Is he diabetic or overweight, suffers from anxiety or a heavy smoker"

"NOOOO, he is a gay porn addicted death gripping selfish arsehole....you are being abused OP, you just don't know it yet, I would get your ducks in a row, get copies of all documents, pension details and house deeds, open a secret bank account and get a free 30 mins consultation with a solicitor"

<20 mins later>

"Have you left yet OP?"

🤣🤣You've nailed it! Oh but isn't it possible he's having an affair too? LTB!

Topgub · 10/06/2022 13:21

@Squiff70

But why did he have a child if he was only willing to see it at weekends and couldn't bond with it properly?!!

How on earth cam he be ok with missing all that bonding and all those milestones?!

He'll never get this time back you know.

Fuckthetories · 10/06/2022 09:23

Don't get me started on answering the front door...

And how every parent seems to know exactly what exam paper their child is doing, what exact percentage they need for a top grade, etc etc.

Some shit to the bull, man!

I used to know all that about my children's exams as I was a teacher and it was easy to find that sort of thing out.

According to MN it is completely normal to hear your teenaged child have sex while you're at home. You shouldn't bat an eyelid and simply carry on playing with your toddler /chatting to your friend/watching the telly or whatever it is you are just doing.

And also not mind that they hear you too! I can't think which would be worse.

Jenn500 · 10/06/2022 13:27

Agree that everyone on mumsnet has a child with autism. Also every woman on mumsnet had a traumatic birth, nearly died 3 day labour.

BorderlineHappy · 10/06/2022 13:28

Ah nobody mentioned the magical chicken 😅
Where 1 chicken feeds a family of 8 for 3 weeks.

I don't understand why Mils are hated so much and worse the DH let's it happen.

'Just buy a house'

I have seen this several times this week, like people live in shitty rentals for FUN.

Your post. Where you said you felt sorry for kids in childcare and wondered how their mums had kids they couldn't be arsed looking after themselves.

You dont apply that judgement to your oh?

You seem fairly baffled that you probably should.

Whats the difference?

Yes, their pre schooler is a free reader and they are bewildered by this because his brother was on gold book band at that age.

Oh my god I made my first post recently asking for advice on an unplanned pregnancy as I've lived quite a party lifestyle and it's a massive adjustment and one response told me I sound very immature for 32, I'm a drug addict and I'm going to get my baby taken away from me and also an alcoholic and should quit whining and turn over a new leaf. That I haven't been with my bf long enough to have a baby (well I did say it was unplanned) and why was I not using contraception?!?! (I was!!) such huge assumptions about me when in actual fact I own my home have a decent job (accountant) but because I have enjoyed my life and like to attend festivals/raves etc and have taken the occasional recreational drug then I clearly am the worst of the worst and 'do you take drugs because you think it makes you look cool (chortle)' no Karen I'm not 14 behind the bike sheds with a ciggie and politely suggested maybe she should try it sometime.

Tell me where in that post I accused the mums of the newborns mother being "arsed" to care for their babies themselves.

Good luck with your search.

If RL were like MN we'd all be arguing endlessly over innocent topics whilst sticking pins in a voodoo doll of MIL.

Leafsontheline · 10/06/2022 13:38

I am always amazed how much personal and private information is shared by posters about their teenage kids on the education threads. I get that sharing experiences on exams and university is useful, but I think some go too way to far, and over share information about their kids health, friendship issues etc.

That then gets carried on in to university. The amount of details some parents know about their kids university studies, assignments etc is way, way more than I would have shared with my parents. I would have been so pissed off with my folks if they shared that information about me on a public forum.

Topgub · 10/06/2022 13:39

@Squiff70

That was the implication?

Why bother having them

Why did your oh bother?

Are you going to homeschool out of interest?

AndStand · 10/06/2022 13:41

I don't know anyone who makes each family member do their own laundry! Yet this seems to be quite a thing on MN.
Why would we have the washing machine on more than necessary if everyone's dirty clothes can go in together?

It was not the 'implication' at all.

I am only responsible for what I write, not what you understand!

Topgub · 10/06/2022 13:45

@Squiff70

Can you answer the questions?

Why is it ok for your oh to miss out but not a mum who uses childcare?

Or the parent of a school child?

No. I won't answer your questions because our circumstances as a family have absolutely NOTHING to do with you OR what I wrote in the post you're referring to.

Now kindly bore off. I have better things to do!
