We’ve had many trips to Germany, there are some lovely places to visit and beautiful scenery. Would recommend the Black Forest and the Harz Mountains, Heidelberg, Trier and Frieberg and journey down the Rhine.

Germany is fantastic. I've only been to Düsseldorf and Berlin but both were fantastic cities and I'd definitely recommend visiting.

AliMonkey · 03/06/2022 21:04

We had a lovely holiday in Black Forest and then Lake Constance. Lovely scenery and lots to do. Also driveable if you want to avoid airport chaos (we did it with a night in France each way to make it more relaxing).

Love Germany . Lived there for a while. Rhine trip is great. Rothenburg ( Bavaria) was lovely ; Berlin is fascinating. Black Forest is beautiful.
it’s a fascinating country.

Oh yes. DD is obsessed with Germany. We are going to visit for the first time this year, Berlin. Considering a two week visit for our summer holiday next year.

yesthatisdrizzle · 03/06/2022 21:06

Germany is great. I've been to the Rhine valley and Cologne.

Germany is a fantastic holiday destination.Look at the north German coast and the islands of Sylt and Fohr. Or if you want to go further south there is the Tegernsee in Bavaria.

DramaAlpaca · 03/06/2022 21:10

Yes, it's great. We had a wonderful holiday in southern Germany a couple of years ago. I can't wait to go again and see more.

converseandjeans · 03/06/2022 21:10

Germany is really underrated. Brits prefer Spain and France. Germany has great food, beer, wine, ice cream & some lovely cities & countryside.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/06/2022 21:10

German family, it’s a fantastic country for a holiday.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/06/2022 21:11

(Any time of year)

notacooldad · 03/06/2022 21:13

I love Germany.

We had an amazing family holiday staying in Munich, drove into the Bavarian alps to Neuschwanstein castle. Definitely recommend

LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/06/2022 21:15

Any particular part of Germany good for pre Christmas break ?

GrouchyKiwi · 03/06/2022 21:18

I spent a lovely few days in Koblenz, on the Moselle. I could absolutely spend a week or three in that area.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/06/2022 21:19

Pre Christmas is fantastic... the Christmas markets (honestly, a lot better than the imitations). Chance of snow.

SingingSands · 03/06/2022 21:19

Yes, we have family in Germany so have had lots of fab holidays! Best one was when DD was a toddler and we stayed in Nuremberg, Munich and then Tegernsee. We cycled round the lake with DD in a bike trailer, took the cable car to the top of the mountain, lots of lakeside picnics, outdoor swimming, forest hikes. If you're active you'll love it.

User48751490 · 03/06/2022 21:20

Absolutely love Germany. Went to Munich years ago, and would love to go back when DC are grown up.

Neuschwanstein was absolutely stunning from memory. Breathtaking scenery.

maeveiscurious · 03/06/2022 21:23

Love Germany recommend Bavaria

Chewbecca · 03/06/2022 21:25

Germany is great for a holiday. As well as enjoying many of the things already mentioned, we found the food to be great value, some excellent museums and for small DC, the Playmobil Funpark is fantastic.

holdingonforahero · 03/06/2022 21:31

Omg love Germany. Fab people, scenery, food and culture.
We had a perfect holiday there a few years ago. Black Forest.
We flew cheaply withEasyJet into Basel on the Swiss/French/German border ( spent a day in all three countries- breakfast in Germany, Ice cream in Switzerland and dinner in France).
We said in a Eurocamp style mobile home with beautiful surroundings, amazing pool, fab food and lots of very cool forest walls nearby.
We had a day at Europa Park, which was super, affordable and comparable to some of the Disney parks ( without the massive queues and crowds).
We loved Baden Baden and Frieberg. We had free rail travel around the region, and everywhere was accessible. We climbed a mountain then literally slide back down it inside a really long chute. You could use a parachute instead if you prefer.

Loved loved loved it.

Hoppinggreen · 03/06/2022 21:34

We love it.
We go most years, usually around Christmas but sometimes in Summer too. We are going to Bavaria in August this year and the teens are really looking forward to it.
For Christmas I recommend Nuremberg, Munich or Freiburg

CthulhuInDisguise · 03/06/2022 21:35

Dusseldorf, Cologne and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are all great for Christmas Market breaks. Love it there.
