Germany is really underrated. Brits prefer Spain and France. Germany has great food, beer, wine, ice cream & some lovely cities & countryside.

This!

I used to live in Germany and travelled widely.

Lake Constance is absolutely gorgeous.
Nuremberg is so pretty.
Berlin is weird but amazing.
Munich is beautiful.

I wouldn't recommend Duesseldorf as a tourist destination (I used to live there!). It's a wonderful place to live but there a numerous prettier and more interesting places.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/06/2022 21:36

It’s amazing. Plus the food and wine is fabulous.

I’ve only been to Berlin (which I really liked) but we’re planning a summer holiday to Germany next year - a couple of days at Europa Park for the kids and then the rest of the week in the Black Forest, both of which look amazing.

I love Germany! Berlin is one of my favourite cities ever, I went on a work trip to cologne which was a real surprise and I adore Bavaria for the skiing/walking/mountain biking!
I could move there! Need to learn some German though 😂

Davros · 03/06/2022 22:11

Not Germany, but we've had summer holidays in Austria for the last 15+ years. It's amazing. Many people are surprised!

Oldraver · 03/06/2022 22:15

Yes I would love to go

Any particular part of Germany good for pre Christmas break ?

Cologne? Very easy to reach. German roads are legendary, so easy to drive. Cologne is compact, Christmas market great.
Berlin if you want to see some recent history, it’s a really interesting city.

Have a look at Landal Greenparks. We stayed at a really nice one near Saarburg a few years ago.

We had lovely cabin near a cable car & a really cool toboggan. Nice restaurants in town & a great outdoor Freibad with slides.
On site there was a nice pool, snack bar, restaurant, footie court.

Yes! Bavarian castles and Christmas markets. I'd love it.

Neonskytonight · 03/06/2022 22:42

Just back from Berlin. Fabulous city and everything is so much cheaper than here. We loved it. So friendly.

Cherrysoup · 03/06/2022 22:43

Go for it, there are many beautiful parts of Germany, the forests are amazing!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 03/06/2022 22:44

The Black Forest is beautiful, Bavaria is even more amazing

CoreyTaylorsbiggestfan · 03/06/2022 22:48

As a child we had many holidays in Germany and then later to Austria. In Germany we stayed at 'center parcs' type accommodation which was ideal as we could go and explore as we liked.
My favourite countries are Germany and Austria. We have mainly visited in the summer! Beautiful and very friendly x

CoreyTaylorsbiggestfan · 03/06/2022 22:50

Also I've visited major cities around Christmas, the Germans invented Christmas decorations etc they do Christmas theme the best in my opinion

Aria999 · 03/06/2022 22:51

We had a wonderful time in the Black Forest. Try the hot springs!

Leftbutcameback · 03/06/2022 22:52

We've had two lovely holidays in Germany. One city break in Berlin which was great, food good, hotel lovely, boat trips etc. And one in the Black Forest which was also great! Lovely weather, municipal outdoor pool, nice squares to sit outside with food and drink. Both were also really good value. Hoping to go back next year.

SpringIntoChaos · 03/06/2022 22:54

I lived in Germany for 14 years. Loved every second of my time there and often go back for holidays. There are many beautiful places...depends what kind of holiday you're after really. But yes...it's a very underrated holiday destination...definitely go!! 😍

YetAnotherNam · 03/06/2022 22:58

I have this post saved on my Instagram account and would love to visit most of the places mentioned

Lived there and went to college in the Black Forest. Heidelberg Christmas market gorgeous.

MovingatPace · 03/06/2022 23:12

Only been to Berlin but loved it! The kids went further south on a school trip and loved it - warmer than they expected

Beamur · 03/06/2022 23:15

I've been a few times and am amazed it's not more popular. Lovely place, great food, and easy to get around, etc.

incognitodorrito · 03/06/2022 23:17

Have a look at the link a previous poster added and also Kinder- & Familienhotels, lots of nice ones in southern Germany. Here’s a good example

Rothenburg ob der Tauber. like Fairyland and King’s Landing rolled into one, just beautiful. It will probably be snowing in December, too.
