Things you've forgotten to take on holiday

We bundled DD up in the car at 3am, successfully got her back off to sleep. It's now 6am and we're half way into our journey. I've just realised we've only bloody forgotten DD's shoes.

We're in the UK and can buy some but I can't believe we overlooked them completely.

Anyone else forgotten something so obvious?

We’ve forgotten children’s shoes and coats in a similar manner several times.
I once forgot my entire bag going to stay with relatives. Realised en route; stopped and ordered some basics for next day delivery, but with remoteness and bank hols they didn’t arrive until the day we left.

ChimChimeny · 02/06/2022 06:33

We did the same! Luckily DD wAs pushchair age so we carried her or she was in the pushchair until we went to a shoe shop as early as we could.

DH once forgot to pack socks so he washed one pair of trainer socks every night go 2 weeks in the sink

Pyjamas for me, ended up sleeping in clothes

My make up bag.

Pjs

Currency card (luckily only two miles from home when I remembered that one so could go back)

When I booked into a hotel the night before my wedding I realised I’d left my wedding dress at home!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 02/06/2022 06:48

Last time we went away it was phone charger, contact lenses and DS’s inhaler.

We went to Florida for 3 weeks I only packed 3 T-Shirts for my DH. Luckily we had a washer dryer there. Had to get my 3 year old some trainers as the ones I took were too small. I’ve forgotten hairdryer, toothbrushes, make up, my shoes, DH razor many times. My trouble is I worry so much about other peoples packing, I forget about mine.

I’m amazed it’s your responsibility to pick your DHs clothes and razor!

TheGetaway · 02/06/2022 06:57

pack

We were leaving after a holiday and realised as we drove down the road that we had forgotten to put the dog in the car!

Peaceatdawn · 02/06/2022 07:02

I forgot my phone! Which wouldn't have been too bad since I would happily be non contactable for a week but I'd spent hours making up playlists and was not happy I didn't have my music Sad

IDontDrinkTea · 02/06/2022 07:03

I forgot to take any sanitary pads despite knowing my period was due. We were staying with relatives who don’t stay English and who were insistent on asking why I wanted to go out to the shop. I didn’t know the word for pads so I had to get DH to translate. Not something I would normally discuss with my PIL…

TigerRag · 02/06/2022 07:03

I always forget underwear / enough underwear.

I forgot our holiday money once, left it in the drawer! We were on a NE bus down to Gatwick so had to hop off and come back to get it.
Then - same holiday - DH left the keys in the door in the rush to get going to the airport. Realised when we got to security and emptying our pockets for the scanners. Luckily our friend lived close by and retrieved them for us, they were still in the door thankfully! That was not the best start to a holiday Grin

Mindymomo · 02/06/2022 07:11

@TheGetaway I started doing the packing when children were little and didn’t mind doing DHs packing as left to him he would take way too much and with only limited car suitcase space, I sort of took over. I would hate anyone to pack for me, but DH and now adult DS really don’t care about clothes, so I pack them the minimum and I get to take more.

PanettoneMoly · 02/06/2022 07:12

DH forget to take any pants apart from the ones he was wearing on a trip to the Lake District once.

LeuvenMan · 02/06/2022 07:12

Romantic break with my wife. Managed to forget to pack sponge bag and toiletries.
Didn't realise till we got to the bedroom
Was sent shopping........

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 02/06/2022 07:13

My husband is notorious. He went camping once without sleeping bags, another time with a pair of hike boots which were not a pair (one of mine one of his!) and finally his best ever he went camping and forgot the tent.... on that occasion he got to Norfolk and realised with about 10 minutes to spare before Go Outdoors shut... we have a lot of hike boots, sleeping bags and tents now....

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 02/06/2022 07:14

I packed up the gadget bag - everyone's phones, ipads, my laptop etc. all the leads and a multi-charger.

Forgot to take a european converter - and there wasn't one for sale in the hotel shop! I was carefully conserving laptop power and charging my phone from the TV USB socket

StarlingsInTheRoof · 02/06/2022 07:21

The stick for my razor. One of those detachable blades ones, so I carefully packed a new head in preparedness and totally forgot to add the stick later. Went to a hot country for 2.5 weeks, so couldn't just hide the leg hair. Not somewhere where you could just pop to the supermarket, so had to make do the whole time.

Carpediem15 · 02/06/2022 07:23

I left my handbag under a chair in a restaurant, it contained tickets for train, hotel bookings and onward travel. Go off to the railway station and realise bag was not over my shoulder so hot foot back to the restaurant to find they had finished lunch service and had gone home for the afternoon. Good job it was not their evening off.
Had to wait until they returned at 6pm then catch late train to London, arrived at hotel to go straight to bed then get up at 3 am to go to Airport. What should have been a nice evening in a hotel turned out to be a fraught day all round.
Never been allowed to be incharge of tickets ever since.

Antarcticant · 02/06/2022 07:23

Nothing for me, as I use an Excel spreadsheet, but for DH it would be quicker to list what he hasn't forgotten. The drive down is punctuated every 30 miles or so by 'Oh, shit, I didn't pick up my ....'

TigerRag · 02/06/2022 07:25

I keep forgetting charging cables. Got so many that I've only used once!

Simonjt · 02/06/2022 07:30

My clothes, first holiday abroad with my son when he was a few weeks shy of two, I was worried I had forgotten something so I took everything out of the case and reticked my packing list for him. All my clothes were on the top and I didn’t put them back in. Luckily it was a private villa, so it didn’t matter as much as it would in a resort as I didn’t have to go out and buy replacement holiday clothes.

Some essential supplies for our honeymoon, not something we could buy locally, luckily it was in the UK and we weren’t far, so I could drive home and get it.
