Things you've forgotten to take on holiday

We bundled DD up in the car at 3am, successfully got her back off to sleep. It's now 6am and we're half way into our journey. I've just realised we've only bloody forgotten DD's shoes.

We're in the UK and can buy some but I can't believe we overlooked them completely.

Anyone else forgotten something so obvious?

Arrived at destination for long weekend with DH, and we’d forgotten to put the suitcase in the car.
Not our finest moment.

The tent poles!

I use Trello to keep track of packing lists, it's shared with DH so he can tick things off too. it's good for collecting and packing then I use a paper list for the final to dos so it's easy to glance at.

Pjs

Currency card (luckily only two miles from home when I remembered that one so could go back)

When I booked into a hotel the night before my wedding I realised I’d left my wedding dress at home!

I used to wear contact leases. When I got married my brother took out weekend bags to the hotel, along with our car. It wasn't until I went to bed that I realised that as well as not taking my contact case but also my glasses. I'm pretty poor sighted. I had to put my lenses in my mount the next morning (after putting them on a piece of tissue at night). We stopped two nights so assume someone went back for my glasses and case 😂

Not forgotten to take with, but I once forgot to lock the front door when we set off on holiday (as we were leaving, the postman turned up and I got distracted and didn't go back to lock the door). I remembered when we were about an hour and a half up the road and decided to take the risk and not tell DH as we didn't really have 3 hours to spare for the return trip to go back and lock the door. Luckily we live in a very safe area. When we arrived back a week later, I jumped out the car first to 'fake' unlock the door so DH didn't realise. I only came clean a few years later!

We (by that I mean Dh as he packed the car and picked me straight up from work) forgot both dc's coats for a very rainy camping trip. That was fun.

I went away for the weekend recently with no spare pants.

We forgot to take any socks for ds2 once.

Those are just the ones that spring to mind!

ToastedCrumpetwithCheese · 04/06/2022 23:29

We use ToDoIst as we can share our lists and share ticking them off. I do have a 'check the list' final item too!

We've forgotten a fair few things over the years, but just the 'usual' stuff. Most recently we packed two coats for the teenager and no coat for the 6yo. She had to wear the teen-sized coat with the sleeves rolled up (luckily for just 2 days).

My clothes
i had to wash and dry the same outfit every night for a week!

kennycat · 05/06/2022 07:13

at one stage my mother owned about 25 umbrellas because she’d never tss as ke one in holiday (only ever holidayed in uk) and had to buy one.
its the reason I keep a brolly in the car. I never use one and I definitely dint want to own 25 of them!
it pays me to buy stuff I own already do get really cross when I forget things.

I always remember my DF had the same shoes but in a different colour. He ended up taking one black and one brown shoe on holiday. He actually wore them all week rather than pay for a new pair 🤣

DP once flew abroad on holiday having left his suitcase in the hall at home.

Yes I'm afraid I was crying with laughter when we got to the airport and he discovered his oversight. It was obviously my fault as I must have distracted him as we were leaving😂

I had remembered mine so I was OK. He had only the clothes he stood up in. To add insult to injury it was the only time he has ever paid for an additional luggage allowance....

HelloMaryJane · 05/06/2022 18:22

My clothes. Having packed for the children including steriliser, bottles and formula and DP (yes, I know really) I totally forgot my own stuff and had to wear DP's enormous t-shirt with the formal skirt I travelled to the wedding in.

@DogInATent "Not me, but we were camping a couple of years ago and the family a couple of pitches over were in a panic as they'd driven 4+ hours to discover they'd forgotten the key to the roofbox which contained all their bedding"
Was this North Berwick-ish? If not, good to hear someone else was as stupid forgetful as us. Thank goodness for the local locksmith who came to the rescue. 🤦🏻‍♀️

No, it was North Wales.
He had a good ask around the campsite to see if anyone had a duplicate - most roofboxes and locking roofbars use the same make of lock cylinder and the keycode is on the outside of the barrel. I sent them across to the local Tesco where there was a seasonal special on sleeping bags. Because they had the number of the key barrel I think they were going to try the next day and get a duplicate couriered across from the supplier. Fortunately they had all the baby things, their clothes and the tent in the car - it was just the bedding they couldn't access.
