Things you've forgotten to take on holiday

We bundled DD up in the car at 3am, successfully got her back off to sleep. It's now 6am and we're half way into our journey. I've just realised we've only bloody forgotten DD's shoes.

We're in the UK and can buy some but I can't believe we overlooked them completely.

Anyone else forgotten something so obvious?

I once went skiing and forgot my glasses. I was wearing non- disposable contacts and also forgot the pot and solutions. My prescription at the time was -8.5 so I couldn't manage without. I wore my lenses for a week without a break and it was Not Good.

I put out DS sponge bag and my shorts and guess what didn't make it into the case?

Yoloohno · 02/06/2022 22:28

A hair brush, not one of my 3 long haired female family members remembered to pack one. Thankfully very small hotel shop had one.

my husband never takes a coat on uk breaks, for some reason he never chucks it in the boot when packing up then moans about being cold/ wet all week.

I got to the airport and realised I’d left my passport at home.

LunaLoveFood · 02/06/2022 22:38

Our entire suitcase. Thankfully a UK break so a trip to a a supermarket with credit card saved us.

I did this once. Wasn't too worried though as it was a uk break around Liverpool and Chester so I assumed I'd easily be able to buy one whilst we went to Salford quays. Not one pigging Superdrugs or boots. Had to buy one from body shop at an extortionate. Think it was something like £18 though in all fairness it was a fairly good brush but my tresseme one didn't cost that much and that's tons better.

Some (not all) of the tent poles. That was bad.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/06/2022 23:41

Was half way up the country when I suddenly realised that the only shoes I had with me were the sandals on my feet. Ended up buying a pair of shoes. And wellies for the kids when it poured with rain and their trainers got wet through.

Got to America and discovered that dd2 had packed hardly any clothes and four pairs of pyjamas. Bless her. Good old Walmart came to the rescue.

On the same holiday, dh discovered that he hadn’t brought the PIN number to his new travel money card. Luckily our bank cards worked out there for a very low fee.

Me too, Verbena, me too.

Traipsing round Betws y Coed searching for spare poles is not a holiday experience I want to repeat.

We usually have to turn back after about 20 mins when husband realised he’s left his laptop at Home.
the only notable thing I’ve forgotten was my son’s pants. He loved not being able to change his undercrackers for a couple of days till I could get to the supermarket for more!!
now I make them pile their own stuff up for me to pack so I can see it all at once before packing.

Oh I've remembered another one. Our honeymoon, very expensive and posh hotel, very strict dress code for the evening restaurants - NO flip flops. Got on the plane in my flip flops and halfway over the Atlantic realised I hadn't packed any other shoes. Hotel in the middle of nowhere so no shops around, hotel shop didn't sell any shoes. Ended up wearing long skirts and dresses to dinner every night in the hope my flip flops wouldn't be obvious. Managed to get away with it but the stress every night when we walked into the restaurant and waited to see if they'd let me in was unreal

DH has nice prescription sunglasses. Raybans. He has bought old-man-clip-on-sunglasses in London, Chamonix, Las Vegas, Malaga and other holiday destinations round the world.

stormelf · 03/06/2022 10:42

Every single holiday my DH forgets to pack flip flops. I always remind him and he will always say that he won't need them. Day one of holiday he's decided he wants flip flops and has to go out to buy some. I'm going to pack our bags for our holiday tonight, hope I don't forget anything. I've been slowly putting kids clothes inside their trunkis all week so they don't get worn and need washing, again

@DogInATent "Not me, but we were camping a couple of years ago and the family a couple of pitches over were in a panic as they'd driven 4+ hours to discover they'd forgotten the key to the roofbox which contained all their bedding"
Was this North Berwick-ish? If not, good to hear someone else was as stupid forgetful as us. Thank goodness for the local locksmith who came to the rescue. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Cuwins · 04/06/2022 20:39

As a teenager I once went on holiday to France without any socks! It was one of the first times I had packed to go anywhere on my own, I quickly learnt the value of a packing list!

Littlepinkdress · 04/06/2022 20:41

My hairbrush once I was to far from home so just bought a replacement

Bananajam · 04/06/2022 20:52

We arrived at the airport to find DD (17) hadnt put her suitcase in the car assuming DH had got it but he'd closed the boot thinking she had, clearly not looking.
It cost quite a bit to kit her out when we arrived with underwear, bikini and a couple of dresses.. a holiday story than she's not been allowed to forget!

LondonQueen · 04/06/2022 20:55

My whole handbag, which had our passports in! Had to go back and get it which meant we had a catch a later flight, at our expense😳

Jules912 · 04/06/2022 21:01

My pyjamas, when staying with MIL. Ended up sleeping in a t-shirt and pants as wasn't risking MIL seeing me naked.
Once forgot then toddler DS's teddy he wouldn't sleep without, realised about an hour into the journey and had to go back.

MiaGain · 04/06/2022 21:15

I've never been away in my life without forgetting something!!

Toothbrush is my favourite, but once went away for a week and forgot to pack clean pants 🙄( just went and bought some new ones), the dog's bed (on a self catering/cottage type break!), my make up bag (at a very important corporate event!), DH's phone, wine!!!! ARGH!!!.

I think the pressure to get everything, and everyone, ready makes my own stuff go our of my head.

Branleuse · 04/06/2022 21:40

I forgot to take my glasses on holiday once and just took contacts. Was a bloody nightmare every evening

BettyBoops · 04/06/2022 21:57

First time we took DD camping she must have been around 10 months old, it was May so still pretty chilly at night. Set the tent up, all good until we put her travel cot in and realised we hadn't packed any blankets for her, not one!
That was a fun trip around a small Welsh town trying to find a shop that sold blankets!
We also forgot her nappies on that trip 🤦🏻‍♀️ they were easier to locate though!

WorriedMillie · 04/06/2022 22:10

OH once forgot his contact lenses, for a skiing hol, he could just about see enough to ski without them and I had some retro, easy to spot, ski pants, so he could spot me 🤣
We now have a list of things to pack beforehand
…and a last minute list

(But we generally manage to forget something 🤣)

GettingStuffed · 04/06/2022 22:14

Going on my honeymoon I forgot to pack any underwear, luckily the first stop was Brighton**
