Things you've forgotten to take on holiday

We bundled DD up in the car at 3am, successfully got her back off to sleep. It's now 6am and we're half way into our journey. I've just realised we've only bloody forgotten DD's shoes.

We're in the UK and can buy some but I can't believe we overlooked them completely.

Anyone else forgotten something so obvious?

The kids didn't take their coats to cold rainy Norfolk last October. They assumed I would take them. I assumed they would put them on to get in the car!!!

Needless to say, morning 1 was a trip to a coat shop. Very annoying when they had perfectly good coats at home.

Lists people! Lists!

You need to write an actual list on an actual piece of paper.
Pack the bag.
Check the list.
Run around the house chucking in the things you forgot.

May a your travels be calm and non-forgetful Smile

I am speaking from bitter experience here. Trip to Aberdeen. Forgot my coat. Yep had to buy a new one. Oops. Always use a list now!

This is a good thread for me this morning, currently packing for our flight to Spain today, I’ll go through everyone’s answers and double check myself.

Travel adaptors in Germany last week! Haven't been abroad since 2014 so we had totally forgotten we'd need them (despite having a box full at home). It was a massive faff to buy one too...

Shangrilalala · 02/06/2022 07:47

Beach resort holiday and managed to forget swim shorts for DH. Ended up having to buy a couple of pairs of Vilbrequins in the desperately luxe resort shop. Cost almost as much as the holiday!

ColourMeExhausted · 02/06/2022 07:48

Scanning the thread to see if anyone's said 'Kevin' 😁

countrygirl99 · 02/06/2022 07:50

Glad to see there is someone else with a spreadsheet😁. DH takes the piss about my lists but guess who forgot to take his snart shoes to a wedding abroad and was desperately trying to find a pair that fit his big feet to buy a couple of hours before the ceremony.

narkyspirit · 02/06/2022 07:52

Passport, luckily staying in hotel at airport night before when I realised. drove home to collect.

MintyMoocow · 02/06/2022 07:55

We were an hour into a day long hour drive from Los Angeles to Vegas Airport to fly home, when I remembered we’d left the passports in the hotel safe.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 02/06/2022 07:56

I use packing lists (there are loads of good ones online for different climates / types of holiday) and also have a separate checklist of everything still to pack/take/do on the mining before we set off.
only thing we've ever forgotten was when DH forgot to put one of the bags in the car (it was sitting on its own in the middle of the living room floor when we returned so not sure how it got missed 😏)

Housewife2010 · 02/06/2022 07:59

I once forgot to take any knickers with me for a fortnight away!

MajorCarolDanvers · 02/06/2022 08:03

We once forgot my DH's suitcase

Had to do a very quick detour to ASDA near the airport and buy everything

Lunaballoon · 02/06/2022 08:06

Sunglasses! I wear prescription ones so couldn’t buy a cheap replacement. Such a stupid thing to forget for a holiday in the sun!

fishingpaintings · 02/06/2022 08:08

I went skiing and packed my son perfectly. I also took all my skiwear but only one pair of non-skiing trousers and no knickers at all.

I also learnt that people in the country I was skiing have infinitely smaller bodies than mine and knickers in my size are not easy to find there.

zoopigi · 02/06/2022 08:10

I was invited to a big birthday party in another country. I was in charge of all the party decorations, as well as packing for the kids etc. Got everything sorted and when we arrived realized that my party dress was still hanging up in my bedroom. Had to dash to the shops and buy a new outfit in the only spare half an hour I had. Still had a blast :)

Motherhubbardscupboard · 02/06/2022 08:10

I actually know someone who forgot the baby. They travelled in two cars and each thought the other had the baby. Nope, she was at home in her car seat (all was fine in the end, they called a neighbour when they realised)

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 02/06/2022 08:11

UK seaside holiday with 7 week old DC4 who Would Not Sleep In The Day unless he was strapped to DH's chest, and a family wedding to attend... Forgot the baby sling. Internet was patchy there at that point, DH had to spend some time leaning out of windows to get enough signal to order one then drive 45 mins to collect it.

I reckon forgetting the dog classes as a “Kevvvvvviiinnnnn !!!!!” Moment ! 🤣🤣🤣

Poppins2016 · 02/06/2022 08:13

We didn't pack the baby monitor or any nappies beyond what was in the changing bag last time (at least the nappies were an easy fix!).

DH is consistently not great at packing... He's forgotten to pack things like swimming trunks (beach holiday), smart shoes (wedding guest) his coat and jumpers (on separate winter trips). I've taken to reeling off a quick 'have you packed' list of essential things before we leave, in order to avoid the inevitable moaning/hassle of turning back/having to stop off and buy things unnecessarily.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/06/2022 08:14

Lists are great, but they don’t physically put the
bags, coats and shoes in the car!

DH once left half his clothes in a wardrobe in Whistler. Fortunately we weren’t leaving Canada straight away, and the first hotel Fedexed them to where we were staying in Vancouver for a few days.

ivykaty44 · 02/06/2022 08:16

My passport when I was driving to the ferry…
luckily dd was home & I knew where I’d put my passport so she drove 50 miles to Oxford & I turned round from M20 and drove back to Oxford…

shinynewapple22 · 02/06/2022 08:19

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/06/2022 06:39

Pjs

Currency card (luckily only two miles from home when I remembered that one so could go back)

When I booked into a hotel the night before my wedding I realised I’d left my wedding dress at home!

Oh no! What did you do? (About the wedding dress)

Dinneronmybfpillow · 02/06/2022 08:21

My entire suitcase. I was 23 weeks pregnant at the time and we flew into Berlin on a Sunday, so all the shops were closed. Thank god for H&M!

GnomeDePlume · 02/06/2022 08:23

Forgot sleeping bags on a camping trip. We couldn't find replacements anywhere so bought a duvet and bedding and discovered how much more comfortable that was.

Went to go up Mont Blanc and realised DD only had sandals. Had to buy an eye-wateringly expensive pair of hiking trainers in Chamonix for her.

Camping again, forgot the corkscrew!
