Ah Peregrina, you’re using a skill that enables you to assess the consequences of your actions. I mean that’s a pretty specialised skill, it’s not very reasonable of you to expect people in government to possess this. May as well expect Nostradamus./sarcasm

AmaryIlis · 13/06/2022 09:14

It's really concerning that they're lining up their tame lawyers to say that breaking international treaties (e.g. the Northern Ireland Protocol) is fine, they're not the law unless they've become part of domestic law. Not only is it rubbish law, is it really a good idea to send a signal out to our International partners that there is no point complying with treaties with the UK because we will junk them whenever we find them inconvenient or when doing so will play badly with mad Brexiters?

DuncinToffee · 13/06/2022 09:34

Getting all the big calls right...

UK economy shrank by 0.3% in April

Political news in general is a dark place to comprehend right now.

To be clear I don’t think there’s any one ‘superhero’ - person or party - who can step in a flick a switch but a tumultuous time is being made worse (which in a different time line I bet we’d struggle to comprehend how it could be ‘worse’) by a cabinet devoid of ethical brakes and boundaries.

DowningStreetParty · 13/06/2022 10:54

I completely agree. I think Boris’ particular policy of weeding out anyone who is moderate on Brexit or supported Remain, means that we have a particularly terrible group of hardliner Brexiteer Tories and/or simply self serving careerists who are just there to obey in charge. Labour are still in recovery from the electoral rotten egg that was Corbyn, after that decision to allow anyone to vote for the leader or whatever it was. Starmers Labour do not seem like the effective opposition yet that we should be able to have at a time when the Tories are making a gigantic mess on so many issues. We desperately need those in government to have some sense of responsibility for what they are doing. (Going back to Jesse Norman MP’s excellent letter.)

Although Arron Banks has just lost his defamation action against Carole Cadwalladr, so that's a small bright point. The consequences if he'd won could've made the current political landscape even worse.

From James O’Brien - apparently David Davies has said the reason we’re having problems now is because we had a ‘remainers brexit’.

Huh? So Boris didn’t get brexit ‘done’ then? Because he’s told an awful lot of people he did.

Cornettoninja · 13/06/2022 11:13

It is ApplesandBunions, but the pessimist in me still thinks that’s one more tiny victory against an avalanche of BS that the people who really need to take note of it still won’t.

I think I’m getting fatigued with it all now.

It's been put in 'cold storage'

I don’t want to cast aspersions but it makes his performances at PMQ’s over the last couple of years sound like Uber-Fibs in parliament.

oh and poor old JRM, how’s he meant to look for grifts opportunities in the deep freeze?

prettybird · 13/06/2022 11:59

[The protocol has] been put in 'cold storage' according to BJ.

Would that be the same fridge that he went and hid in? BlushWink

Blossomtoes · 13/06/2022 12:20

How the hell can we have a remainers’ Brexit? If ever I heard an oxymoron!

Because everything is the remainers fault, dontcha know?

It is ok if you break international treaties for 10 minutes or less I understand.

Well yes but if we remainers had our way there wouldn’t be any bloody Brexit at all.

tobee · 13/06/2022 18:10

Yes well I'm sure that's remainers' fault as well.

They have now added "doctrine of necessity^

It is normally invoked at times of grave crisis, such as a war or national emergency, not for saving someone" s career

Pippa Crerar

BREAKING: Court of Appeal finds that the first flight taking asylum seekers to Rwanda can go ahead tomorrow.

(Although there may only be a few, if any, deportees aboard)

Tories, at least the 211, are celbrating their victory on woke lefty lawyers, remainers, Prince Charles and the Church of England.

Well that will be because the Tories are not the party of law and order, are not the party of royalists and patriotism and not the party of church and morality.

Good that was easily solved.

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2022 08:14

I've had 4 days off social media. Now trying to catch up. What an absolute shitshow - all to appease the ERG and keep Johnson in his position.
