Terrible news. Those poor people who have been through so much.

What do people think will happen about Patel. It looks like she has liked repeatedly to parliament about this. She should go but will she? I don't suppose so.

I heard she was first on the list in a reshuffle.

I suppose there will be celebrations if it leaves, reading some of Twitter today, thats a given 🤬😡

ClaudineClare · 10/06/2022 19:14

That is awful news. Those poor people.

Thx Duncin I'm on it! Looking now!

itsgettingweird · 10/06/2022 21:18

Ffs what is our country coming to?

I read the letter too from his cousin.

Interesting his grandfather was part of the people setting the human rights act - especially the way he treats KS about his work as a human right lawyer (often for free).

The more we learn about Johnson the more you see he literally doesn't have any morals or integrity.

tobee · 10/06/2022 22:02

But he's a great communicator!

(If he once was, he's definitely not now, but those 211 are gonna cleve themselves to that thought.)

Scrreenshot from The Times article

That clearly ought to be a resigning matter, but I'm sure Sunak sees no reason to given that lying to Parliament and committing criminal offences in no. 10 don't seem to merit resignation.

guinnessguzzler · 11/06/2022 08:07

According to an article I just saw in the Guardian, Mr Johnson stands to make £5m per year once he leaves office. Anyone want to send him the link to focus his mind? 😁

I take comfort from the fact that even with all the money in the world he won't be happy but it is a shame to see it wasted. The top job, goal since childhood didn't fill the void ... nothing will. Hint: it's inside you. Narcs, eh?

Genuinely, I don't understand why he's still clinging on at this point. We all know he's not got as much money as he wants and is disinclined towards hard work. It would actually seem to be in his best interests at this point to jack it in, he'll always be a former PM and nobody can take that away from him, and spend the rest of his life pissing around giving the same very well paid speech. Just go and embrace the easy, luxurious life.

Ben & Jerry's facing a lot of flack but also a lot of support for this thread about Rwanda
Well done them

tobee · 11/06/2022 10:04

Just seeing that Heather Wheeler, parliamentary secretary in the cabinet office, and MP for South Derbyshire, has had to apologise for calling Birmingham and Blackpool "godawful places".

These are the shitheads who are in power. This is what they think. They are also stupid enough to say it out loud. They are contemptuous. And they don't care.

Minister sorry for 'godawful' Birmingham and Blackpool comment www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61767856

prettybird · 11/06/2022 10:14

Typical "non-apology" apology: "I apologise for any offence caused." Angry

Roussette · 11/06/2022 10:32

Why say it in the first place then? Sorry not sorry.

Just pissed off she has to issue an apology

DuncinToffee · 11/06/2022 10:55

Prince Charles has described the Rwanda policy as appaling as well.

@ApplesandBunions I think he is probably trying to cling on for at least one term, and to leave under better circumstances, so it doesn't feel like a failure. I think he also needs to feel important. I do actually genuinely pity the guy, despite the fact that he is a monster. World at his feet, opportunity for a very comfortable life that would suit his abilities and interests, chance to spend time with his wife and children (an incredible opportunity considering how many times he has messed up the possibility of a happy family life) and here he is desperately clinging on to a job he is completely unsuited to, while the entire country grows ever stronger in our hatred for him. It really is pitiful, but he's still a lying bag of lies and completely unfit for office.

DuncinToffee · 11/06/2022 10:58

Jim Pickard summarises it well

levelling-up latest:

a Tory minister has apologised after referring to Britain’s second-biggest city and a prominent Lancashire seaside resort as “godawful”

The "respectable" argument for the Rwanda deportations is "no I don't like it but have you got a better idea for stopping people smuggling".

But that doesn't make any sense. First because it isn't stopping smuggling - small boats are continuing to arrive.

I wonder if Boris will make as much in retirement as his predecessors? How much interest will people have in inviting him to speak when they know he will just bluster and lie?

People seem to pay quite a lot to watch freak shows, so he might do ok.

Paul Waugh is reporting that yesterday

Boris Johnson
faced booing (again) in Cornwall
avoided voters + journalists in Devon
tucked into cake next to his Tiverton candidate

I am astounded they've let Johnson be seen out with either of the byelection candidates. Is he trying to lose the bloke his deposit?

tobee · 11/06/2022 14:47

Yes that's fascinating to see that they sent him down there. They obviously are still buying into him being a vote winner. 🤔😱😳They obviously think they've got nothing to lose.

But how will the constituency's electorate reply?

Or maybe he wanted to go because he hasn't realised how toxic he is, and nobody tried talking him out of it because the harder he crashes, the more likely they are to be able to boot him out.

I usually tend to assume stupidity rather than grand plans in such situations though.

tobee · 11/06/2022 16:40

Let's hope that Tiverton votes append a big collective v sign to Johnson on their ballot papers
