Catching up on PMQs.

Starmer is finally coming out and showing some personality.

His use of intonation between the calling him out with humour and the seriousness when needed is what we've been waiting for.

Loved his comment about 24 hours in a and e use to be a tv programme and now it's Johnson NHs policy 🤣🤣

itsgettingweird · 08/06/2022 17:44

Lowest unemployment - no just a load of employed people in zero hours contracts.

Although I think Labour brought those in?

Patel has been very quiet of late. Times listed Patel as most likely to be removed in a cabinet reshuffle. I did wonder whether he'd move Wallace just because he seems very popular.

I see Baroness Morrissey has jumped before she could be sacked as non exec director at the Foreign office. She called Johnson a liability and said he was in the wrong job (I'm struggling to think of the right job given his past).

I hope all goes well tomorrow Itsgettingweird.

Patel knows full well she owes her position entirely to Johnson. She's going to stay ferociously loyal right until the very end, out of pure self interest. For that reason I think he might be reluctant to get rid of her.

I know this has been said many times on these boards but it's just so arghhhhhhhhhhhh!

I know, it’s so frustrating.

Unfortunately I think it’s only Boris who can bring down Boris and I’m reaching the point of hoping it’s impressive even if it’s at my expense for nothing more than revenge really. His bruised ego is the biggest danger to him right now alongside the belief that he is entitled to do as he pleases and he’s clever enough to get away with it.

I don’t particularly like being that person but his refusal to abide by common standards of decency erode any leeway I would usually have with someone whose politics I disagree with.

Such a powerful statement.

Absolutely agree. I don't think anyone ever agree wholeheartedly with any party or PM.

But disagreeing and having no faith in their integrity and honesty as so different and once that trust has gone so has any belief that if you disagree in a policy that the person delivering it is at least doing it with good intent of their own beliefs.

Very much in this camp.

Cornettoninja · 08/06/2022 18:08

Exactly @itsgettingweird . The party line of ‘getting on with the job like the British public want us to’ is a hollow statement that I don’t think anyone can convincingly flesh out at the moment.

Agree again.

The British public don't actually want him to get on with the job.

Elections and polling show this.

The booing at jubilee show this.

And his idea of getting on with the job are so transparent now. It's not getting on with the job with actually policy and future plans - it's telling the public what he thinks they want to hear (imperial measures anyone 🙄).

And even when he says what he thinks the public want to hear many are suspicious of his motivations or simply don't believe him.

Starmer summed it up at PMQs. Why should be believe the 40 hospitals. He's not done it, why would he suddenly do it now. It's hollow words.

It will be. He's not going to take the quiet or relatively dignified routes out, it'll all be extreme. Evidently he intends to take the party down with him.

ancientgran · 08/06/2022 19:00

I thought Patel looked fed up at PMQs, at one point sitting with her arms crossed and looking away from Johnson. She didn't look like a happy bunny to me.

mocctl · 08/06/2022 19:06

What on earth is wrong with these people who want to keep Johnson, are they simple or something. We have had him since 2019 with a big majority. He has done nothing and he will continue to promise and then do exactly nothing. We now have the first Billy Liar Prime Minister with a wrap sheet. Don't give me that old Chestnut that he did well with the pandemic, he was all for locking us down, it was only when his career ran into jeopardy that he eased up, don't forget the interview "we can't rule out vaccine passports". This guy bought water Canons to use on his own people when he was Mayor. He has done nothing to stop the boat people, why, because he is all for it, global Boris wanted to give amnesty to all illegal immigrants. You mugs are being played and you need to wake up and stop being afraid of your own shadows.

It Boris wanted to give amnesty to all illegal immigrants , they why have they given Rwanda millions to take some of these people ?

Because he thinks that the particular hate filled demographic he wants to appeal to will like such a move.

Cornettoninja · 08/06/2022 19:20

I disagree with almost your entire post @mocctl, I don’t want ‘boat people’ deported, I think BJ didn’t want to lockdown and his hand was forced by circumstance meaning we took the worst available option by acting too late to reap any real benefit, I don’t believe vaccine passports (which I’m pretty sure happened anyway due to other countries requirements) were a threat given the appalling implementation of track and trace.

Regardless of our difference of opinion, I do think it’s interesting how many different points of view he’s managed to piss off and lose the ear of.

Blossomtoes · 08/06/2022 19:27

This is a particular sore point for me as someone just informed a family member won’t be cremated for four weeks due to a backlog

To be fair this is nothing new. There was a three week wait when my mum died in 2015.

DuncinToffee · 08/06/2022 19:29

Has he managed to piss off the likes of Farage as well?

About Rwanda

Colin Yeo(Barrister) - Any asylum seeker seeking protection in the United Kingdom could be sent to Rwanda... & this could apply to women & children as well...

And there's a reason different areas vote differently and despite the fact it means I'm benefitting it's hurts that we get more because we have an Mp with their head up Johnson's arse. Especially because she's absolutely white beyond recognition when it comes to supporting individuals and with education.

For example - I was referred last April urgently to Gynae for surgical options. I have my hysterectomy in 2 weeks.
In some areas people would still be waiting for the appointment.
My area has just managed to get chemo set up in our local community hospital for people and our cancer services are fantastic. (My mum received the most amazing care and so did my dad when he also had cancer)
Yet in some areas people wait months for an appointment.

Levelling up is a load of bollocks. What Johnson actually means is "if you have an MP who is Tory and keeps me in - you'll benefit" evidenced by the MP who 3 years after waiting for community support has been promised it to vote for Johnson. Will be interesting to see if the money for that constituency materialises.

He cannot see that some people don't see him as amazing even if they are benefitting because most of us care about the country and not just ourselves.

Jason118 · 08/06/2022 20:29

most of us care about the country and not just ourselves.

The reason we have so many Conservative governments is that the above statement isn't true.

No it isn’t new but it is the kind of wait I’d expect to see after the Christmas/new year period during a moderately bad flu year.

Its June, which I don’t think has ever been a traditionally busy time for burial services (more than happy to be corrected Smile)

the80sweregreat · 08/06/2022 20:37

The news today about inflation and tube strikes and the price of petrol and the cost of food and the NHs waiting times in lots of areas and the lack of staff and well everything was like living back in the 1970s. That was a shit time!
We are definitely going backwards.

DuncinToffee · 08/06/2022 20:42

We are watching Pistol at the moment (mini series about the Sex Pistols) and there are definitely lots of similarities with the 70s

OP posts:
Blossomtoes · 08/06/2022 20:48

I was thinking this morning how much like the 70s it’s beginning to feel. We had four PMs in ten years so it was politically unstable too.

itsgettingweird · 08/06/2022 20:57

I have to admit not knowing what 70's was like (born 1980) but obviously I was born Thatcher years so remember hearing a lot and it didn't sound easy.
