I caught DH making love to our kettle

Obviously this is clickbait. Sorry.

Can anyone recommend a really durable electric kettle?

In the last five/six years or so we've had a breville and a Russell and Hobbs, both of which have started leaking. Surely kettles should last longer than that!

Of all the clickbait-y titles, that's what you came up with?

BrutusMcDogface · 01/06/2022 07:09

So disappointing! 🤣

Burnamer · 01/06/2022 07:10

How hard is the water? Not a smutty response, genuine question as that could be what’s killing them off.

TopCatsTopHat · 01/06/2022 07:11

🤣🤣🤣
My russell hobbs is great, no leaks and me and my dh both love it just as much, we're in a threesome. 😁

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/06/2022 07:12

I was hoping foraTake A Break style posed photo with a kettle and sad looking woman and children...

I usually buy one for about £20 in Argos. Never had one leak. We tend to break our kitchen appliances in other bizarre ways. (DH once ran over the microwave for example...)

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 01/06/2022 07:12

hahaha!! I too have kettle nightmares, they don’t make them like they used to - now I sound 105!
currently have a breville that’s about a year old and has started leaking, my one before was tefal and that only lasted a year too.

londonrach · 01/06/2022 07:15

Made me smile. We just buy the cheapest kettle..£5 or £6 from supermarket......last one been going on 7-10 years....

motogirl · 01/06/2022 07:16

Currently got a £15 sainsburys kettle, previous one is still going strong, morphy richards was £30 from argos in sale, sent to university with dd

MrsClatterbuck · 01/06/2022 07:17

My next glass kettle has been going for six years. I have a Stellar glass one waiting in the wings I got on sale. I might ditch the Next one soon not because it's leaking but because it's not looking it's best now.

FixTheBone · 01/06/2022 07:18

We've had similar issues with Russel Hobbs and breville kettles before, we maybe boil it 15 or 20 times a day.

Out current Bosch was expensive, but is still going strong.

Mol1628 · 01/06/2022 07:20

Mid range basic one from Asda had it 5 years now. I do have to descale at least once a month though!

dottiedodah · 01/06/2022 07:24

Wow!interesting title there. We have a dualit .not cheap but no leaks 6 years on. My friend just buys cheap and replaces often .not very good fo environment though

evilharpy · 01/06/2022 07:27

We have very hard water and never seem to get more than a couple of years out of a kettle despite regular descaling - they all eventually leak. The longest lasting one was a cheap thing from Argos as I had a strop about the water killing off the expensive ones we'd had. And the cheap one only died (after three years) because I broke the button, not because of the bloody water.

We're moving back to Ireland soon where the water is soft and I'm going to have a lovely kettle!

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 01/06/2022 07:27

Pot luck surely? I’m 48 and on my 4th adult kettle - never spent more than £30 and am 99% caffeine.

JedEye · 01/06/2022 07:27

This made me chuckle!

And click obviously Grin

I can’t offer any advice as my kettle handle broke after a few weeks and it wasn’t cheap one.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/06/2022 07:28

Ours is a Kenwood Kmix is 10 years old and now discontinued but still going strong. I think you get what you pay for so perhaps try going for a higher end product?

oopsfellover · 01/06/2022 07:29

Sorry only read the title. LTB, and get your kettle tested for stds.

Viviennemary · 01/06/2022 07:31

Do you mean for the purpose of boiling water.

BingeBitch · 01/06/2022 07:31

The imagery that conjured will haunt my dreams forever.

R00K · 01/06/2022 07:32

If only there was some form of electronic device which would let you search for reviews of anything you may be interested in 🙄

BakeOffRewatch · 01/06/2022 07:33

Honestly our Wilko colour play £10 that we bought when we moved in and we’re buying everything lasted 6 years. We only replaced it as DH wanted a fancy Russell Hobbs one as a treat… didn’t last even a few months and is the bane of our daily little life things, given how much we use the kettle. The flick switch lever falls off all the time, it leaks. Nothing was wrong with out £10 one, but feel we need to persist with the £40 one.

BanjoKnockers · 01/06/2022 07:35

HIBU

UniversalAunt · 01/06/2022 07:36

I had a sooper-dooper stainless steel Dualit that lasted 10 years of being on the boil all day, quick to heat up, beautiful to look at & poured really well. Well worth the spend.

I couldn’t afford the £80 to replace it so have opted for an anonymous make for far less ££. Nowhere near as good, slow boil & the pour is random.

Daphodils · 01/06/2022 07:36

He shouldn't do that.

AuntyBumBum · 01/06/2022 07:37
