I have just found out that the "sticky backed plastic" on Blue Peter was actually "sellotape" but they werent allowed to advertise it. How did I not know this?🤔

I never knew this for years either (I never made any Blue Peter items)

A Penguin bar is just a bourbon biscuit covered in chocolate.

Read this on a similar thread a while ago -

John Tyler, the 10th US President, was born in 1790. One of his grandsons (Harrison Ruffin Tyler) is still alive.

How does that work?!

CaveMum · 11/05/2022 17:15

That the last US Civil War (1861-1865) widow died in 2020 - 135 years after the war finished!

My mind is blown that someone thought sticky backed plastic was Sellotape. Grin

Yes, you use it to cover tiny weeny books ! 🤣

Okay. I just looked it up.

John Tyler (b.1790) had Lyon (b.1853) and Lyon had Harrison (b.1928).

Both births were to their second wives who were significantly younger than them.

That the sun doesn't actually move further away from the earth in winter and closer to it in summer

The sun doesn’t move at all. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Argh - typo. I meant the earth doesn’t move further away from the sun, it’s just its tilt etc. I do know the planets go round the sun thankfully.

Daftasabroom · 11/05/2022 17:27

Sellotape is made from cellulose derived from wood pulp and is bio degradable.

Beef gravy granules are vegan.

Sticky-backed plastic was a product called Fablon. It came in sheets and various jolly patterns. My mother covered a tatty top of a picnic table with it and it lasted years. 'Blue Peter' called Sellotape sticky tape.

If anyone was wondering:a 17 year girl named Helen married a 93 year old civil war veteran in 1936 so she would receive his army pension following his death. He died 3 years later. She never got remarried and the marriage was kept a secret;she even continued living with her parents as a supposed spinster.Thé secret marriage was revealed 3 years before she died at 101.

My mind was blown when I found out sloths can swim, I just couldn't picture it!

Not only that but they are amazing swimmers and can hold their breath under water for over 40 minutes.

Given how slow they move, it's probably a good job they can hold their breath for such a while, must take an hour to get through one stroke lol

Unless they are like Michael Phelps in the water, now that would be a site to behold 😂

Has anyone said pineapples yet? Every time this thread comes up someone mentions pineapples.

Every time, right?

But yes, a couple of people’s minds have already been blown by the pineapple fact on page 1 already.

Baby vests will be along soon.

I found out today from my hgv driver friend that crushed marble powder is used in the coating of chewing gum. He found out during his work when collecting a load at the quarry. I will never feel the same way about gum again.

Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded, and the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand
Along similar lines, the water we have today is the same water that’s been there since then.

These ones make my mind blown and also happy in equal measure 😊
