Those 'young workers' could pass it on to the elderly or to CEV people.

True but they all worked in the same building didn't they

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2022 14:00

I meant when they go home from their knees ups. People of low risk kept themselves 'safe' for wider society and not just themselves. At least that was the message I heard.

Piggywaspushed · 14/05/2022 14:01

The parties brought more people together than were normally in contact. And their behaviour, fuelled by alcohol, certainly seemed less inhibited.

Notonthestairs · 14/05/2022 12:02

I'm not going to blame the Government messaging - the issue is that Downing Street set legislation for the public and then from a very early stage acted as if it didn't apply to them.

This is quite simply the crux of it.

Well summarised

itsgettingweird · 14/05/2022 16:23

I remember seeing reports of families where a parent who was a keyworker slept in the summer house/shed because their child was receiving chemo.

Even today - May 2022 - 2 years after the parties and we started relaxing some rules I've had to sit in my mums private room within the hospice whilst she receives end of life care - wearing a mask.

To think whilst families couldn't visit loved ones in the same circumstances and they died alone - whilst our Pam who apparently nearly died of covid had parties - is just beyond comprehensible.

If he didn't believe their was a risk he shouldn't have locked us all away for the greater good

Roussette · 14/05/2022 16:26

@itsgettingweird Sorry to hear about your Mum. Flowers

Totally agree with you.

Bottom line is... they made the laws. They did not follow the laws. The laws were for just us. Not them.

I agree with your last line.

L1ttledrummergirl · 14/05/2022 19:36

itsgettingweird I'm sorry to hear about your mum.
We had similar when my mil first went into hospital before needing palliative care. I'm afraid I broke the rules when in the room with her, I figured that If she was going to die it would be with human contact so I removed the gloves and mask and held her.

We were fortunate that we were able (with the help of her amazing carers), as a family to care for her at home so we didn't have to follow such draconian rules.

My dgm is in a care home in Wales at the moment and their rules gave only recently relaxed. I'm hoping to visit her soon for the first time since covid hit.

I took my mask off when just me mum and ds. When the nurse came in she asked me to out it on.

I did and pulled it down it the minute she left

We can hold mum. She is deciding what she wants to do from here. She's worried about leaving dad at home but also about him having to care for her full time.

She's barely awake for 1/2 hour periods currently. She managed 40 minute visit and then I insisted she told us to go because she couldn't keep her eyes open. Sad

ADadInDisguise · 14/05/2022 19:58

I don't think Starmer will be fined.

If you look at the No 10 Parties timeline (on BBC web site and on Private Eye) it lists a "Non-Party involving food and wine during a working day". This was deemed acceptable so no further investigation and no fines.

If the No10 working non-party was acceptable then Starmer's beer and curry must also be acceptable.

Blossomtoes · 14/05/2022 20:01

So very sorry about your mum @itsgettingweird. I feel for you.

borntobequiet · 14/05/2022 09:18

That sounds like a description of getting old to me.

That or just being an idle arse by nature.

Johnson would certainly know about that.

L1ttledrummergirl · 14/05/2022 22:15

The only reason we managed to keep mil home was because my sil is a nurse and took unpaid leave with dh and I alternating weekends to give her a break.
It's bloody hard watching someone you love deteriorating. I hope you can visit whenever you like.

This government has a lot to answer for.

SueSaid · 15/05/2022 09:38

'as they say... the fish rots from the head down.'

Why do 'they' say this? It's a funny statement isn't it. I'd have thought rotting was pretty much even tbh.

These 100 fpns. So far 2 have been politicians, 2! BJ and Sunak for birthday greetings in the middle of their working day. If there is more then where is it?!

We just cannot blame BJ and the cabinet for all the wrong doings of civil servants, their line managers are responsible not BJ.

Regarding care home deaths the people discharged were clinically ready for discharge, should they have stayed in a high risk environment for 3months until widespread testing was available?? Where would the sick people who needed hospital care have gone? Whether in hospital or a care home the outcome sadly would have been the same, older people were the highest risk age group as we all know.

InMySpareTime · 15/05/2022 09:46

It could be (and most likely is) far more than 2 MP FPNs, they only said they'd tell us if it was senior cabinet positions affected. Other MPs don't even need to mention whether they've received them. Also, that's so far, there are plenty more events yet to investigate.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2022 09:58

Jesus, I have honestly never heard anyone -other than Tory MPs- defend the care home issue!

Roussette · 15/05/2022 10:00

Why do 'they' say this? It's a funny statement isn't it. I'd have thought rotting was pretty much even tbh

Not funny at all. It describes exactly what is happening. BJ at the top and not following the restrictions rubber stamps those below him not to either.

If there is more then where is it?!
We're waiting the interminable wait for the Sue Grey report aren't we..

We just cannot blame BJ and the cabinet for all the wrong doings of civil servants, their line managers are responsible not BJ

Back to the rotting fish head The buck stops at the top. Always been the way. The PM has to make the decisions and thereby he accepts the ultimate responsibility for those decisions.

The care homes cannot be excused and I'm surprised Janiie that is what you're trying to do. The policy has been ruled illegal by the High Court. I presume you disagree with the High Court.

"Regarding care home deaths the people discharged were clinically ready for discharge, should they have stayed in a high risk environment for 3months until widespread testing was available?"

A half way house? So being discharged from hospital but not going directly to a care home - a period of isolation before being returned to a care home

It would have taken some imagination - but surely someone would have wondered if discharging people from a hospital when there is a virulent disease into a care home might not be a good idea?

SueSaid · 15/05/2022 10:46

'Back to the rotting fish head The buck stops at the top. Always been the way. The PM has to make the decisions and thereby he accepts the ultimate responsibility for those decisions.'

I wish you'd stop with the rotting fish head thing. The PM is not in charge of the management of all civil servants. Their line managers are. Hasn't one of those fined gone on to manage a Labour Council so by your rationale her leaving do was Starmer's fault?

It's interesting, when the vaccine roll out was a massive success that was nothing to do with government according to some on here, oh noooo it was the nhs all acting independently! Now we have civil servants getting fpns and it's all Johnson's fault.

Anyway in other news, we came second in the Eurovision. We are popular aren't we Grin.

DuncinToffee · 15/05/2022 10:48

They knew about the transmissions, it"s all there in the High Court ruling.

They didn't care! And neither does Janiie by the sounds of it.

Hunt is refusing to answer wether or not he trusts Johnson, he wants the job.

SueSaid · 15/05/2022 10:49

'A half way house? So being discharged from hospital but not going directly to a care home - a period of isolation before being returned to a care home'

Yes a period of isolation in a halfway house would have been ideal, logistically hard to spring up overnight of course unless families had the space to category their loved ones. Tbh if I were a rich care home owner accepting patients (and the money) during a well reported pandemic I'd have made sure they did infact have a period of isolation - in the care home.

SueSaid · 15/05/2022 10:50

Care*

Roussette · 15/05/2022 10:54

Sorry, I'll keep on about the rotting fish head, he bears ultimate responsibility. Look at the email to 150 staff for the bring your own booze bash. That would not have happened if it had been made clear that partying during lockdown would not be tolerated.
BJ sets the tone and look where we are with over 100 FPN's and 17 parties being investigated.

I have never said the Government had nothing to do with vaccines, they were ahead of the game for a while, but BJ talked like he was personally jabbing arms! Volunteers (like my DD and my bestie friend) and of course the NHS carried it through.

Sam was brilliant, we're big Euro fans here, why did I decide to celebrate at midnight with sloe gin I ask myself... Grin
