No but the comment was made up. Obviously, tbh.

Let's hope the well known chef and journalist who writes restaurant reviews deletes and apologises.

Apologises for what? A factual tweet? I’d sooner believe Jay Rayner than Dowden.

MarshaBradyo · 13/05/2022 10:37

Surely the note was written by someone unconnected who is being sarcastic

it’s not faked but also not as presented on that Twitter feed

Cutting the Civil Service doing those jobs just means that they can be 'outsourced' to private companies. It won't actually save any money at all.

Well I couldn't help thinking this morning when I heard this that if they actually wanted to save money they would cut the consultants and bring the roles in house not the reverse...

LEnferCestLesAutres · 13/05/2022 11:02

A very charitable interpretation, Marsha! But even we bend over backwards to give the author the benefit of the doubt, the text is ill-judged and insensitive

And yes, clearly not photoshopped or fake.

I don’t think so. I get the immediate reaction is to conflate the image and words and think they’re laughing etc

but if you think about the event and that that note has instructions re what to do if you won any item - it’s created by the organisers

maybe 30 items needed a note - I don’t know how many - but someone was having a laugh when they wrote it

SueSaid · 13/05/2022 11:09

'A very charitable interpretation, Marsha! But even we bend over backwards to give the author the benefit of the doubt, the text is ill-judged and insensitive'

Yes it is ill judged.

He donated it to a charity. Someone at the charity clearly added it as a 'joke'. What is funny and a 🙄 is the amount of folk on Twitter hysterically believing Dowden was responsible.

Not sure if adding Dowden's name to it was a very bright move legally. Surely the prankster would have been better keeping it anonymous.

MarshaBradyo · 13/05/2022 11:13

All notes would have the person who donated - that is likely to be true.

maybe months ago, it takes time to set up the event.

then someone or a team had to created a message for every item. It’s more likely to be someone aligned with majority views on this thread than not

it’s a bit like a sarcastic post on here re dear leader etc

Over 100 fines and counting

Gullible, thick folk obviously come in all shapes and forms

Nice Hmm
Let's not go there shall we?

I was referring to Jay Rayner. You suggested as he is a chef and journalist then he wouldn't post misleading crap on Twitter to whip up similarly gullible folk.

Roussette · 13/05/2022 11:16

And don't you think that BJ donating champagne and signing a bottle is... at best, insensitive or to me... taking the absolute piss.
And that is with the OD note or without.

Nope. He didn't photoshop anything, he posted as he saw it. Now... OD didn't write that note but... given the circumstances of the first PM in history to be guilty of a crime... wouldn't you think it is somewhat crass to be signing and raffling off bottles of champagne?

Stupid question. You wouldn't think that would you

'wouldn't you think it is somewhat crass to be signing and raffling off bottles of champagne?'

Must it be hair shirts and tins of beans? Bottles of champagne are exactly the type of thing I've seen at raffles. God, there was a spa break once at a school do. The bare faced cheek of it!

Why not a spa break then?

Of course there's luxury items raffled... but a signed bottle of champagne by the PM who was quaffing it during lockdown whilst others were following the rules, is just a joke

Tbf the bottle seem to have been donated months ago, probably before partygate.

And people are willing to pay for Johnson memorabilia.

But I don't see why a twitter post warrants namecalling insults from janiie.

Quite likely. And how difficult would it have been to withdraw it? not difficult at all.

Nothing surprises me about this lot. Next minute he'll be buying into a french vineyard with bottles showing his mug on it labelled 'Boris's booze'.

You mark my words, once he's out he'll be cashing in on this. He has no morals.

Cabinet Covidnon would be a perfect "Boris Booze"

SueSaid · 13/05/2022 11:52

Yes I'm surprised he hasn't deleted his misleading tweet. Mind too late now, Dowden is trending with many pitchfork wavers like Rayner seriously thinking a member of the government wrote the comments. I'd stick to restaurant reviews if I were him.

Notonthestairs · 13/05/2022 11:57

The point is surely that we shouldn't be in this position. There shouldn't be a Partygate. Johnson and Downing Street shouldn't have ignored legislation. There shouldn't have been any parties.

Partygate and everything that has flowed from it - Sue Grey, the long running police investigation, the media attention - only exists because they acted as if they were above the law.

MarshaBradyo · 13/05/2022 12:00

Now if someone could get hold of a Starmer signed bottle of beer it could be worth even more at a raffle ;

DuncinToffee · 13/05/2022 12:12

It wouldn't even surprise me anymore if someone who happened to pass by had ----already raided the recycle bin.

DuncinToffee · 13/05/2022 12:16

Jay Rayner
The Conservatives have been in touch to say that Dowden didn't write the caption, that the charity did, and he was very angry about it. Curiously, according to those who were in the room, the lot was greeted with hilarity and at no point did Mr Dowden intervene. Happy to clarify.

SueSaid · 13/05/2022 12:19

'The point is surely that we shouldn't be in this position. There shouldn't be a Partygate.'

No, there should not have been a 'partygate'.

The problem, as always, is if it wasn't a party in Durham then it wasn't a party in the cabinet office. Workplace interactions occurred.

You know as well as I do..I meant withdraw the signed by BJ bottle.
Not clever for you to pretend otherwise
