And here's a nice handy reminder of all the parties from Private Eye. With descriptions, where we are with each one, whether FPNs have been issued and what's to come.

"The most rational explanation for such obvious law breaking during lockdown is that many in Whitehall found their own rules too strict to follow but believed the police would turn a blind eye." Private Eye.

This and the subsequent lies are what angers me. I'm still amazed that some are happy for laws to only apply to the public.

Interesting that Johnson was pinged 3 days after the ABBA party.

So agree with this. And it comes from the top... BJ does not think he should be answerable to anyone... the law, the public, the Queen... anyone.

This is a most interesting read... where have all the good Tories gone? This is from that old stalwart Ken Clarke.

The former cabinet heavyweight lashed out at Mr Johnson’s disregard for “constitutional constraints”, calling his party “more nationalist than at any time in my lifetime”.
“He gets angry if the courts or parliament try to interfere. As the elected prime minister, he thinks he should not be impeded in these ways,” Lord Clarke said.
“We are now getting dangerously close to the ‘elected dictatorship’ that Lord Hailsham, the former lord chancellor, warned us about half a century ago.”

The Tory party voted for Johnson to be their leader so I guess there haven't been many 'good' Tories for a while.

DuncinToffee · 10/05/2022 09:52

The mental gymnastics are hilarious, they really have dug themselves in a deep hole, and no I don't mean Keir Starmer.

Notonthestairs · 10/05/2022 10:32

I find the spin that they are all the same deeply depressing. I don't think Caroline Lucas would have stayed on holiday during the evacuation from Afghanistan for example. Nor, I suspect, would Tobias Ellwood or Ben Wallace.

We've got plenty of dedicated politicians out there, working away. But they are buried under sludge.

I don't expect any one party to 100% reflect my views. I can live with politicians that I disagree with but who have carefully thought out views. I'm just sick of politics solely being about getting Johnson out of whatever hole he's made for himself.

DuncinToffee · 10/05/2022 10:44

And so save big dog continues

I could really do with advanced search

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/05/2022 11:48

I've got the opening of parliament on, how Charles managed to read that speech with a straight face and no comment I will never understand. Fair play to the man.

The government are reducing taxes, helping with the cost of living etc. I'd be laughing if it wasn't so unfunny.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/05/2022 12:05

A conservative (not sure of his name on bbc1) has just stated that everyone who was entitled received £150 council tax rebate in April.

This is yet another lie. My council has yet to process these so no, no we haven't yet received the rebate.

STOP FUCKING LYING!!!
It's really not that hard.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/05/2022 12:06

Simon Clarke. Chief Secretary to the treasury.

DuncinToffee · 10/05/2022 12:07

Same here, apparently letters will be sent out soon

Just reading the latest cchq Starmer thread, I quite fancy a curry and beer now rather than my tuna sandwich and tea.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/05/2022 12:58

Funnily enough I have curry for lunch. Not with beer though, does that make it OK?

@L1ttledrummergirl - so what happens if someone has fully paid their council tax before the rebate gets processed? Confused

We're Band G so don't get it anyway Sad

Best that you don't have a beer - apparently it would render you completely incapable.

Brilliant post. So agree with all of this.

All the lies are just so wearing. And the people out there (and on MN) just excusing it like lying is now the norm. There has never been such a dishonest PM as this one and it emanates all through his cabinet.

No sign of our council tax rebate either :(
The DD payment for April and may came out fine though, no problem there of course

Absolutely

itsgettingweird · 10/05/2022 16:21

And I've not had my rebate either!

Luculentus · 10/05/2022 16:41

Charlie seemed to be having considerable trouble restraining his eyes from rolling whilst reading out that load of utter bollocks in Parliament today.

itsgettingweird · 10/05/2022 17:03

I've been at work so missed it all.

Was that stuff all about taxes etc from the queen? In her speech? So she believe the bollocks Boris spouts?

Peregrina · 10/05/2022 17:43

Normally the Queen says 'My Government will...'
What did Charlie say? My mother's Government will..?
