What’s an instant turn off for you in a man/woman?

OP posts:
Mummysgogetter · 05/05/2022 18:21

for a clearer image- this bloke 😩

What is an instant turn off to you?
HRTQueen · 05/05/2022 18:22

I love beards 😊 so manly 🥰

TonkaBean22 · 05/05/2022 18:23

Dreadlocks on white men
Veganism
Smoking and drug taking
Being blatantly woke and performative
Facial piercings
Being too passive. I don’t want to be in the driver’s seat of the relationship all the time
Having no opinions or independent thoughts
Guys with no hobbies or interests
Being too muscly
Baldness - I know it’s not their fault, but it doesn’t do it for me
Being badly dressed
People who bang on about how rich they are

I met an otherwise lovely guy who had bad breath. It wasn’t great, but I told him good dental hygiene was a must for me - flossing, etc. Problem solved overnight, though he was a bit embarrassed.

torquewench · 05/05/2022 18:25

Bad teeth/breath.
Excessive drinking.
Constantly using gendered insults - eg calling women bitches and slags, men cunts. Also swearing loudly in public when inappropriate.
Untidy/unmaintained house (nothing minor, im talking broken toilet, broken windows, broken guttering, wallpaper peeling off mouldy damp walls, no carpets, overgrown garden, still having the previous elderly owner's decor 12 years after moving in), not owning a hoover and being proud of that.
Mood swings/sulking.
Overconfidence in their own wrong opinions (eg olive oil solidifies at body temp which causes constipation).
Constantly moaning about their minor ailments but never asking how you are (eg having a corn on his little toe and winging aboutnit for weeks. I eventually fixed him with a corn plaster. He wasn't grateful).
Never saying please or thank you.

Surprising that he's still single at 55, really 😅

Carrotmum · 05/05/2022 18:28

Smoking
Blond hair- only fancy dark haired guys
Too thin - would rather have them overweight
Comb over- be proudly balding
Shiny faced, over groomed, Botox etc

Things I don’t mind but other people seem to:
Beard
Non driver

What really attracts me
Man wearing glasses

Gwenhwyfar · 05/05/2022 18:29

"Its not the lack of driving ability that would bother me, but the fact that it would mean our division of labour wasnt fair and I'd be doing all the running around"

I have a friend whose husband doesn't drive. He takes his kids to places in a bike and trailer.

JoeGoldberg · 05/05/2022 18:31

Bad teeth
Gym bunny
Drugs

MangoJuice008 · 05/05/2022 18:32

Cruelty or mean streak.

Piercings.

Being to thin.

I'm overly really fussy to be honest, it's more about the personality to me. If they're a jerk to the waitress they're a waste of space.

Libertaire · 05/05/2022 18:34

Obvious tattoos, smoking, rudeness, inability to speak properly, fussy eating.

D0lphine · 05/05/2022 18:37

Sexism.

Specifically people who think you're going to be their cook / maid / secretary. Ha! No.

SomersetONeil · 05/05/2022 18:39

Absolutely the driving thing for me, as well. I want someone who is independent, and probably more critically, able to help with the day-to-day.

DS needed to be dropped into school twice this week due to extra stuff he needed to take in. I WFH, so DH does it. There are so many instances when we rely on the car - with the kids’ activities all over town and out of town - that if it were just me, I’d be ground down and seething with resentment. Add in a lot of holidaying that we do as family - all of which has been domestic in the last couple of years - and DH not driving just wouldn’t be an option.

And it goes both ways - my DF pretty much insisted DM get her licence after they got engaged, knowing how much she would need the independence of a car once we came along.

Complete detail sorry, but … also for me…

Yes, skinny men! I didn’t actually realise this about myself until just now. I wouldn’t want to be with an overweight man either. But give me someone on the large/built size any day of the week.

I think my only other real deal-breaker would be any sort of social recluse type. I want someone who’s open, friendly, socially skilled and enjoys spending time with people. Living with an anti-social hermit would be utterly miserable.

Teeth, long hair or beards are a big turn off.

Urgh yes beards are rank!

Giggorata · 05/05/2022 18:43

The majority of the above, plus unintentionally short trousers, white socks, lavatorial humour, speaks in clichés, herd views, uncouth, noisy, moist lips, especially at the corners, too many tattoos, often drunk, bad table manners, lives for sport, wears sports clothes when not on an actual sports field, big bum, wears bright polyester, discourteous, narrow views.
There are probably more…

RingBinderInjury · 05/05/2022 18:44

Vanity (hair gel, fake tan, ridiculous fashion shoes or coats, jewellery, bright white teeth or veneers, cologne/aftershave).
Personalised number plates.
Tory voter.
Reads theDaily Fail, Telegraph or any of the red tops.
Avid and excessive interest in any sport or exercise hobby whatsoever.
Someone who is proud that they don’t read books.

Head on over to any male-based forum and I’m sure you’ll be inundated with them.
