What’s an instant turn off for you in a man/woman?

OP posts:
ResentfulLemon · 05/05/2022 16:54

Beards
Smoking
Trousers that don't reach the ankle on men that's my petty one

DS1 has epilepsy and has never been able to drive, but is warm, funny, creative, intelligent and successful in his chosen field.

It saddens me that someone would discount him because of something he has no control over. Luckily, he lives in a city where the public transport is brilliant, and has a wonderful partner.

to be fair I hadnt thought about that scenario- I would say its different to a man who could learn to drive but never has.

Crimeismymiddlename · 05/05/2022 16:55

Uses the word adulting, like they are very, very special for being a man, who can cook/use washing machine/vacuum.

Astrabees · 05/05/2022 16:56

First thing that'd put me off is smoking. On closer inspection😂, it'd be a dislike of cats, hygiene and arrogance - in that order.

rainbowandglitter · 05/05/2022 16:59

Men that wear super skinny trousers with shoes but no socks.

PriestessofPing · 05/05/2022 17:00

Mostly it’s either arrogance as in thinking you are gods gift OR too far the other way and extreme passivity. A healthy confidence is so attractive!

OhLordyWhatNow · 05/05/2022 17:00

Inability to think outside their own existence/ Lack of self awareness

That kind of shiny, plastic look that overgroomed men have, a bit like Mark Wright, Ronaldo, Katie Prices current squeeze… no thanks.

amusedbush · 05/05/2022 17:21

I've never understood the driving thing - DH can't drive and I couldn't give a fig! And I'm heavily tattooed (colourful neo-traditional pieces) from my chest to my feet so we're both off many of your lists Grin

For me it's:

Heavy drinking or any drug-taking
Long nails
Bad teeth
Skinny - I'd prefer they were overweight than very slim
Jewellery - I can't stand necklaces or rings on men, and double ick if it's a signet on the pinkie!
Tight trousers
Shoes without socks
Joggers worn outside the home

And, it goes without saying, Never Fuck a Tory. Advice to live by.

Noshowlomo · 05/05/2022 17:22

ParisNoir · 05/05/2022 17:28

The driving thing would bother me to be honest because it would mean it was me having to always take us out everywhere, pick the kids up from school, take them to their after school stuff etc.. Its not the lack of driving ability that would bother me, but the fact that it would mean our division of labour wasnt fair and I'd be doing all the running around which would also mean I'd never be able to have a glass of wine out with dinner etc

FIZZYTEDDY · 05/05/2022 17:32

Instant turn off personally is a man who's feminine or particularly camp

AffIt · 05/05/2022 17:36

Rudeness to anybody they deem 'below' themselves (waiters, receptionists, housekeeping staff/janitors etc).

Overt parsimony.

Bad table manners.

Unkind to animals.

Horrible, beaten-up / uncared-for shoes (thanks, mum, for drawing my attention to this one. And yes, you were right.).

Thank you for explaining that - the non-driving thing has always confused me but I guess I'm only looking at it from my perspective.

Neither of us drink, we don't have/want kids and we live close to Glasgow city centre with fantastic transport links. DH rarely asks me for lifts anywhere and if we go into the city centre for dinner or we go to a gig/comedy show/whatever, there is never any parking so it wouldn't occur to me to drive anyway. Whenever we holiday in the UK, it's always a major city so we get the train or fly.

Sorry, that was a ramble! But I now get why some people would find it off-putting.
