Shamelessly stolen from Reddit. Did anyone you went to school with end up with a surprising career.

Girl I did my a levels with was a county athletics champion and one of the smartest kids in school. She went on to be a singer in a mediocre girl band.

I went to school with Rick Astley. I nearly dropped dead from the shock when i first saw him on TV. I definitely didn't expect that!

My first uni bf was incredibly controlling, and enjoyed making me feel uncomfortable the entire 3 years. I heard he had applied for the police force, and for years had sporadic nightmares about him pulling me over for speeding, and attacking me.

He is now a District Commander. Not sure what that means, but suffice to say, he did just fine in the police.

My classmate became a teacher. For many years she told me that she does not love children at all. I was very surprised to know that she is a history teacher.

One of the very 'cool kids' in school (all about not studying, hanging out, smoking at the age of 14, 15 etc) became a top lawyer that now works in the UN. Another of the same group became a nurse, another is an accountant that a friend of dhs had heard of and considers top in their field.

Became a model, not a super model or anything but a model nonetheless. She was very plain and not very confident at school.

She looks amazing now!

A girl in my year grew up to be a professional fairy. She’s quite famous in some circles, actually.

WTF is a professional fairy?

mathanxiety · 29/04/2022 05:14

A girl a year behind me is a well known Irish designer.
A boy in my year who showed no particular interest in religion as a teenager has spent his life as a missionary in the far east.
Several girls and boys ended up as professors in various universities.

Someone I was at school with is in game of thrones and a few other things.

One girl swam in the Olympics.

Everyone else seems to have quite boring lives which is a relief Grin

One of my schoolfriends works for a company that trains animals and birds (including owls...!) for the film and tv industry.

I’ve been on MN too long. I read this as “for a company for trans animals and birds” and wondered what transgender owls had to do with anything.

The shyest, most awkward boy in my year went on to become a life model and posts all the photos and drawings people have done of him on Facebook!

It’s lovely to see him all confident and proud of what he’s doing but I never expected to see quite so much of him! 😂

One became a falconer - not a obvious career path for a gritty inner city kid
One spent 6 months in prison for something quite horrible.
The “golden boy” in the year above me was sent down from Oxford.

WalkerWalking · 29/04/2022 06:54

Why are people so secretive about who these famous friends/acquaintances are? There must have been several hundred kids at school with each individual (thousands when you include the people who were at the school a few years either side, but like to fudge that a bit 😉) It wouldn't be particularly "outing" to say that the quiet, sporty kid who left in in year 10 was called David Beckham!

A schoolfriend of mine, who was an obsessive germophobe is now a GP, not only that, but during science if we were dissecting something she would be the one gagging and white in the face. I was shocked when I realised she was a GP, she never even mentioned wanting to do medicine.
