Shamelessly stolen from Reddit. Did anyone you went to school with end up with a surprising career.

Girl I did my a levels with was a county athletics champion and one of the smartest kids in school. She went on to be a singer in a mediocre girl band.

A Head Girl became a very well known MP (now retired)

Silvercatowner · 28/04/2022 11:49

Long time ago - but I lost touch with my friend from junior school - she was lovely but very prim and proper. When I re-encountered her when we were 16 ish, she'd been expelled from school and was working in a circus being fired out of a cannon.

Elzbells · 28/04/2022 11:52

Mine was the girl who nannied for the Beckhams and leaked thier secrets to the News of the World.

I would never have expected her to end up a nanny let alone one as high profile as that.

Went to school with an absolute genius who was well into the Mensa category. They dropped out of uni a year in and started working at a fast food place. They're still there, 20 odd years later.

Apparently this is quite common amongst geniuses. I remember reading that the man with the world’s highest recorded IQ was a rubbish collector in an Australian town.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 28/04/2022 12:02

Became masseur to Prince Andrew 🤮

beachcomber70 · 28/04/2022 12:03

A boy in our class was the untidiest, chaotic boy of them all, un brushed hair clothes thrown on. His work was messy, awful handwriting, work badly laid out, no paragraphs, no margins, ink smears/splodges all over it [we were made to use fountain pens] and held up by our teacher once as an example of how not to present work. [Probably wouldn't be done today].

He went on to become a headmaster. i was amazed.

A girl in my year grew up to be a professional fairy. She’s quite famous in some circles, actually.

QueenKong101 · 28/04/2022 12:06

Welsh Children's Poet Laureate. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Givemethestrength · 28/04/2022 12:07

A lot of the bullies from my year at school have gone on to be teachers, which fills me with dread for their students. We only left secondary school 10ish years ago and some of the cruel things they did and said to people, I don't think people can really change that much 😩

Aw love this.

A girl I was friends with for a while at high school. Thoroughly “geeky” (as was I), we were both very much on the bottom rung of the ladder

Started to distance myself when she started lying about stupid stuff

She’s now married to the brother of someone famous, does modelling work, had her wedding in Hello, does reviews. Really pleased that things have worked out well for her, and only hope that what I’ve read about her and her husband being pushy “don’t you know who I am?” idiots are false

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2022 12:12

Boy I want to school with went on to become a professional footballer he's retired now I think he's one of those "pundits" on the radio now.

I was disorganised in my early teens but somehow got it together to pass my exams. I once left it till the morning before a morning cookery exam to weigh the ingredients I had to take in and showed up late.

I'm now a PA and organise things for a living and love it.

Most original: Founded a martial arts school in China

Had a couple of premier league footballers too

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2022 12:15

One became a monk and is now a diocesan priest, and another became a priest. It was a catholic school though!

onlywork55 · 28/04/2022 12:20

A really clever guy from my school went to Cambridge then went to a top drama school and became an “actor” but hardly seems to get any work. Seems a bit of a waste.

Another girl from my school has had some success as an actress in the US, I looked at her online profile recently and noticed she’s now 2 years younger than me but at school she was 2 years older 😂

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/04/2022 12:26

A Hollywood stunt man. He was a little bit crazy at school.

Have taught someone who became a clown. Straight A student at school.
A few pro footballers/rugby players. An Emmerdale actress.

Stylishkidintheriot · 28/04/2022 12:29

Not school. But grew up in same neighborhood:

international film star

cousin: member of a famous band.

me: boring IT job

Stylishkidintheriot · 28/04/2022 12:31

Oh and a boy from school because a famous comedian.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/04/2022 12:33

Girl who bullied me mercilessly for 5 years for being fat is now a lawyer who likes helping people, apparently. The other bully now works with kids.

CheerfulYank · 28/04/2022 12:34

Start naming names, everyone! 🤣

AlphaAlpha · 28/04/2022 12:34

Year above me, a distinctly average and not exceptionally willowy girl became one of the original 90s supermodels.....

Same year as me, a rather quiet and shy lad, little bit nerdy and square is an international superstar DJ.

SaskiaRembrandt · 28/04/2022 12:35

The boy who was a staunch atheist and practically the poster child for the SWP is now a parish priest in an affluent, leafy suburb, still very left-leaning though.

The girl who was so shy the rest of us had to speak for her is now a drama teacher. And she seems to really gained in confidence. She was one of those people you worry about because as it was, life would have been hard for her. I was so happy when I found out she's doing so well.

prettyteapotsplease · 28/04/2022 12:38

A girl who spent two terms at our secondary school whilst waiting for a place in an approved school (what my mum called 'a school for naughty girls') is now a nurse. She admits that she was wild as a teenager.

Oh god that’s just reminded me of someone. I bumped into him a few years back and he’d become a sports science teacher. He told me that all the kids are thick as shit, he literally gives them the answers to the exams and ‘the little dickheads still get it wrong’. And he then actually went on to say ‘I’m not a paedo but I wish the girls looked like this when I was in school’ 🤢
