Shamelessly stolen from Reddit. Did anyone you went to school with end up with a surprising career.

Girl I did my a levels with was a county athletics champion and one of the smartest kids in school. She went on to be a singer in a mediocre girl band.

Very quiet girl in my year ended up as bassist in a very famous international rock group. Not what I expected at all!! Couldn’t believe it when a friend told me. Looked it up and it’s true. Amazeballs. Good for her!

Ooh is she the bassist for panic at the disco??

One of my cleverest friends from school(sciency/techy) worked in games development for a few years but now lives in a self sufficient hippy commune in the woods and is a very active member of extinction rebellion.

Wasn't actually that much of a surprise given how we were at school but the rest of us morphed into average middle class obscurity much like our parents are.

I'm totally in awe of his passion for the cause. He could have earnt millions!

A great friend of mine really struggled at school due to dyslexia, had many many mental health issues along the way and we were worried about her for a long time. She is now a senior mental health nurse about to finish her PhD and is married to a neurologist with two beautiful kids. Never would have guessed 15 years ago, couldn't be more proud of her.

This is a great story. Good for her.

A boy I taught from a pretty socially deprived area, poor family, disabled mum now writes film score, worked with Hans Zimmmer.

Not his music teacher but I'm so bloody proud of him!

I LOVE this!

Similarly, I taught a boy from socially deprived circumstances who is now a big star in musical theatre: he lives in New York and has a wonderful life. I was his English teacher and directed the school shows, but my friend was indeed his music teacher and voice coach. She's been to see him in London and New York- so proud.

Hollywood actor....I still can't quite believe it 😆

when I went to uni as a mature student, the biggest wasters on my course who barely managed to keep on the course despite it being a quite easy English one, ended up doing PGCE's and becoming teachers as they thought it would be easy money and even the thickest/laziest could find a course willing to take them

This is really upsetting. It gives teachers a worse name than they already have on here. When I trained in 1993 1 in 20 got into my PGCE to teach English. The guy who got a 1st at uni with me didn't get in. We're a profession. One where you need to know your subject inside out and work your arse off (as I sit looking at about 4 hours if marking that needs done today).

One of the toughest girls from my school (i was the nerd but we got on so well) recently became a nurse and is religious. Delighted for her

High achiever smartest kid in the class, arrested with a few hundred thousand worth of drugs on him

Chocolatehamper · 03/05/2022 18:44

It would indeed! Apparently he was targeted by quite a few bullies… maybe that’s why he acts the way he does now?
