Shamelessly stolen from Reddit. Did anyone you went to school with end up with a surprising career.

Girl I did my a levels with was a county athletics champion and one of the smartest kids in school. She went on to be a singer in a mediocre girl band.

Scent??? ACCENT !

One of my best friends, he was the smartest boy in school. Got a scholarship (he had his choice of many) to study music in Japan. He then started a skin care brand, retrained as a bio chemist and is now a millionaire.

My husband went to school with a lad who was fairly quiet, he played football but an injury cut short that career option so he became a celebrity, foul mouthed chef instead.

Bobbi73 · 29/04/2022 19:34

My friend went from a string of dead end jobs and a bit of playing in pub bands (he was very good) to being in a huge rock band touring the world. He's been with them for years now. Totally unexpected but very happy for him.

Newbie20 · 29/04/2022 19:35

Everyone at my school told me that I would be a 'dole dosser' I'm now a fully trained teaching assistant/nursery nurse/reception teacher and I have a multitude of different qualifications under my belt. I wanted to be a vet but I studied the wrong stuff for that.
I have been told that I should make colouring books for children because of my art skills, be a singer because I have an angelic voice or be a model because I am attractive and have the stature and kind personality for it but I don't have the confidence to do any of these 😂

BobHadBitchTits · 29/04/2022 19:40

Celebrity stylist.

Slightly jealous.

This is who I meant to quote! Gordon Ramsay- he trained with Rangers.

No, sorry, having checked her wiki entry it appears I was misinformed and she was never CEO.

She was a founder member and trustee though, and got an MBE.

Ok that makes more sense. I’m pretty useless username wise usually but over the years I’ve read your posts and know you’re older not younger than me so I was a bit surprised.

Julia001 · 29/04/2022 19:59

He was a few years younger but he left and became a member of a world reknowned Boy Band and then a very successful solo artist. 🤣 (I always win this game )

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 29/04/2022 20:04

These have been fun to read.

Interestingly my bully became a police officer as well. Must be a theme.

A lovely girl I went to school with was a total ditz, scatty etc. She is now a senior prosecutor for the CPS and has prosecuted some pretty high profile cases.

A girl I went to school with is now a very famous actress. We were in most of the same groups until I was in year 9.

One of my former Brownies is also a famous actress. Both have been in soaps. Not revealing as will be outing!!

NotYourOscarSpeech · 29/04/2022 20:11

A girl I went to school with became an air stewardess for BA - not super unexpected or unusual, or really of any note. Until Kelsey Grammar left his wife for her! They’re now married with kids.

A very pious and deeply religious girl at boarding school, who never wore makeup on non-uniform days and was just so holier than though became a glamour model. She had a lot of surgery and “enhancements” to achieve the look and was by all accounts very successful.

Went to school with an absolute genius who was well into the Mensa category. They dropped out of uni a year in and started working at a fast food place. They're still there, 20 odd years later.

I was told by the senior personal manager of a household name company that many MENSA level people are almost unemployable>

Not a natural beauty then?

Booboobagins · 29/04/2022 20:18

High class call girl, then killed her very rich partner and went to prison!

Endocrinology is related to the endocrine system. It's not related to hormones related to menstruation or to hormones secreted as required by the body such as adrenalin. It's like you do not need a cardiologist because you have a heart beat.

JetTail · 29/04/2022 20:38

And that is how I ended up in Cardiology!

What a horrible (and untrue) stereotype to perpetuate.

A good friend from primary school - the brightest person I've ever met, incredibly talented pianist, beautiful soprano voice, tall, blonde, blue-eyed Head Girl-type and all the boys fancied her too. She was obsessed with history and wrote poetry (proper poetry, not 6th-form angst stuff!), was off to Cambridge etc...

...dropped out of university, married a man 20 years her senior, had 4 kids, became an alcoholic and drug addict, lost custody of the kids, constantly in trouble with the police, unable to keep a job, ended up sleeping on the streets.

I look at photos of us 40 years ago and feel so sad about how things turned out for her.

scoobydoo1971 · 29/04/2022 21:02

Professional shop lifter in my teen years, and into all sorts of dodgy stuff from 14 years old. Must have been good at it...never caught, although a few near-misses with security. Bunked off school for three years as it was rubbish, and on first name terms with truancy officer who gave up trying to get me back into education. Careers officer didn't want to suggest YTS as never thought I would turn up. Ended up with a doctorate and Director to a 7-figure Ltd company...somehow, no idea how come to think about it.

BornBlonde · 29/04/2022 21:12

Guy I went to school with is now a world famous DJ.

Another guy I went to school with is a very famous chef, in school he only ate junk!

Pedallleur · 29/04/2022 21:13

Head boy at the school. Studied Russian, Greek and Latin at A level and went to Cambridge. He was a polymath anyway but he put the effort in despite being clever. He became something high up at Toys r us in the US. I figured he would be an Ambassador to somewhere but he did well.
