Purely me being nosy...

My neighbour, I haven't a clue what she does for work, young glam woman.

I spot her fairly often leaving her house on foot, dressed very glam businesslike with some sort of pass on a lanyard and a laptop bag but then she always walks home again within 45 mins to an hour.

I want to ask her as it baffles me so much. If she works from home, and is just going for a walk, why does she bring her laptop? If she's going to work, what on Earth does she do for such a short period of time? I want her job Grin

Escort. Laptop is the cover up.

Asset handler for agents in field,

But in the hopes it is more interesting than what I do...

She is going to meet a fellow spy and exchange laptops with various codes and dodgy software. She has top intel on politicians and has to keep strange hours so anyone watching finds it hard to track her

These days and even in the cold war, etc you never know the technology may be better but at their core, humans are the same so to speak.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 27/04/2022 20:28

Why do you need high heels for a zoom meeting? Sorry … missing the point of the post.

Estate agent
Architect

she is client facing and goes into peoples homes?

MermaidEyes · 27/04/2022 20:30

Is there a school within walking distance? Maybe she works or helps out there for short periods, would explain the lanyard and possibly needing her own laptop.

How about mumsnetters being trained in surveillance ?

ButtockUp · 27/04/2022 20:34

She's pretending to her other half that she's still got a job but was actually sacked for fraudulently hacking into peoples' accounts !

Gliblet · 27/04/2022 20:35

There is a WFH mental focus aid that works on using the same morning routine when you're WFH as you would when working on site. If you take it really literally then all of this would be part of the drill - same clothes you'd wear on site, same bag/kit, same journey length. When you arrive 'at work' then you behave like you're in the office - no putting on a quick load of laundry, no daytime TV in the background, no sneaky lunchtime nap.

Or that's not a laptop in the bag and she's doing cash drops for the mob Grin

Happierthanever91 · 27/04/2022 20:41

Maybe she has to go into the office for meetings and then gets to WFH for the rest of the day? My managers prefer us to go in for team meetings ect and then we can go back home after to finish our shifts

MsJinks · 27/04/2022 20:46

As a pp re getting into work mode, a couple of my colleagues do get ready and then go a walk as if they were going into work before settling into it back at home. I’m not sure they cart their laptops but guess it gives authenticity to the scenario you are ‘going to work’. I’m too lazy to have tried this tbh.

stripeyflowers · 27/04/2022 20:57

Oh, I really want to know!

LondonQueen · 27/04/2022 21:04

You must follow her!

Velvian · 27/04/2022 21:07

Maybe she is a financial visiting officer or housing officer for the local/district council. Maybe a social worker??

CorsicaDreaming · 27/04/2022 21:11

mooreover · 26/04/2022 12:07

She'd set off 15 mins before I posted this which is what made me post and she's just walked back! I want to know! I go to the office for 8 hours and can't be bothered to get ready I'm quite impressed by her dedication for such a short trip!

@mooreover

I guess she's just going for coffee somewhere to have a break, she just likes dressing smartly, her handbag/shopper looks like a laptop bag - and the lanyard...mmm...

her keys so she doesn't lose them?
A "give me space" covid lanyard?
A swipe card for a door / locker?

I really want to say dress up in disguise and follow her, but that sounds a bit weird!

redheadmary · 27/04/2022 21:17

Very intriguing

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 27/04/2022 21:17

Estate agent, they always look smart and viewings and valuations don’t take that long.

HashtagShitShop · 27/04/2022 21:20

Airfriedpotatowitch · 27/04/2022 21:20

She works from home and attends a couple of face to face meetings as part of her job bit like me they live locally doesnt take long and then she goes back to her computer with her dressing gown on

Airfriedpotatowitch · 27/04/2022 21:20

Or she is going to interviews

GreenClock · 27/04/2022 21:26

My vote is for coffee/change of scene.
