My 1 year old is quite big and the size 8 ones are getting a bit snug! Can you even get a bigger size ??? Not sure what to do ?

i was looking at pull ups but are they as absorbent ?

Are you sure they're too big. My 5 year old wears size 6 pull ups in bed and they fit perfectly. How heavy is your baby as size 8 is for 17kg+

goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 12:35

Yes she is very stocky and they are just getting harder to do up round her and now leak occasionally. My other children at this age were in size 6 she’s very noticeably bigger but I’ve looked and can’t see an option past size 8! I was wondering though is some brands maybe come up bigger than others ?

Are you in the uk?
Size 6 nappies are recommended to fit most kids up to the age of potty training? That makes your 1 year old bigger than a 3 year old child?
In what way do they not fit?

My 3 year old wears size 6 pampers nappy pants and they never leak

My 2 year old is 98th centile and size 6 has plenty of room! How big is your baby?

Svara · 24/04/2022 12:38

Your one year old is over 17kg? The weight of a four year old? You aren't trying to make the tabs meet in the middle are you (a previous poster thought you had to do that!)?

goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 12:38

Yes uK

I’ve just weighed her she is 2 st 8 (unsure what that is in kg? Around 16?) but she is quite short so she’s very wide !
shes 18 months so nowhere near potty training yet

No the tabs are at the edges !!

Defry switching to pull ups first, they have stretchier waistbands. I found them just as absorbent and looked more comfortable on my toddlers.

Both girls but neither of them particularly tiny and I never needed more than a size 5 pull up.

goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 12:40

I don’t think she is over 17kg but it’s that she is short and wide ? So they are just noticeably snug the last couple of weeks and the leaking is usually an indicator of when we’ve needed to go up a size.
like I said my others were a size 6 (one was actually a size 5 at this age I think ) but she’s a very different shape

I might try some I was looking at them and wondering if they may be stretchier and more comfortable

I think it’s her body shape as well she’s just very short and wide !!

I wonder if this is a brand thing? I've never gone bigger than size 5 in Pampers. DS 3 is wearing size 5 now. Not particularly recommending them though, I know they can be pricey.

Personally I don't like pull ups as much, especially for poo. I find when wet they gape!

goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 12:45

The pull ups although size 8 say 19kg+ so I think I’ll try those as they maybe have a bit more stretch/room ! Whereas the nappies are 17kg+

Quick Google search shows Pampers do a size 8 at most bigger supermarkets, so you could probably order some in from a website
But they're for 17kg+, which is average (50th percentile) weight for a 5 year old. I'd be a bit concerned if your 1 year old is definitely this weight and be speaking to doctor/ hv.

goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 12:45

Yes I was wondering if there was another brand that came up bigger

I had a short and wide baby/young toddler and he was in nappy pants from he could crawl! He's 3 now and size 6 are roomy on him so I just can't fathom how you'd need a size 8 for an 18 month old Confused

Try nappy pants

yes it’s the pampers 8 that we use - they say up to 17kg whereas the size 8 pull ups are 19kg so I might have to give those a try

I think she is just short and that’s making her really wide ! She doesn’t actually eat that much ! Certainly not excessive amounts or unhealthy food or big portions she is just short (like me ! )

She’s 2stone 8 so not actually over the weight on the packet so it must be a very rough guide as going by that they should definitely fit her ok but they don’t

Steelesauce · 24/04/2022 12:52

Gosh, she weighs more then my 6 year old. Speak to your health visitor for alive on nappies and maybe get her weight assessed.

popcorndiva · 24/04/2022 12:52

2st 8 is huge for an 18 month old especially if she is not tall. Is she moving at all ?

Svara · 24/04/2022 12:53

Nappy pants are as absorbant as nappies, they are different to pull ups so I'd try those.

I get the shape thing if she is very heavy for her height, DS was the opposite, could wear a size 3 past a year old because he was light for his height.

Daisypod · 24/04/2022 12:54

With regards to leaking have you tried bigger vests? I find my lo leaks when wearing tighter vests and that's when I know it's time to stop
Using that particular vest.

ohthejoysoftoddler · 24/04/2022 12:54

Crikey my almost 4 year old is 2 stone 8!
