My 1 year old is quite big and the size 8 ones are getting a bit snug! Can you even get a bigger size ??? Not sure what to do ?

i was looking at pull ups but are they as absorbent ?

And I agree the Huggies nappy pants might be good.

I just look at it as if an adult told me they weighed 20stone but hardly ate and were very active I would know something was a lie. Usually the hardly eating and what they ate as you don't get obese by hardly eating its just not possible

It’s not that she hardly eats but she doesn’t eat huge amounts

I'd see a gp not a hv with a request for a referral to Paeds. My nearly 8 year old is still in nappies at night (they have add needs) and a 6 still fits just - a 7 is better. I can't imagine how your dd is the same size at 18 months, what size clothes does she wear?

No help with nappies but the same comment as someone else said watch her car seat if she is 17kg as most car seats have an 18kg weight limit and she definitely wouldn't be safe in a high back booster seat and should still be rear facing at 18 months old.
You can buy rear facing seats with higher weight limits wiof 25kg and some 36kg from Axkid and other brands.

A typical day would be

Breakfast either porridge with berries (she has a small toddler bowl it’s not big) , or a banana with natural yogurt or scrambled egg (1 egg, 1 slice of toast)
water to drink (she only has water)

Lunch is always a chicken sandwich or houmous and grated carrot sandwich , apple and strawberries. I usually put some grated cheese on the side for calcium and some avocado but 80% of the cheese and avocado gets left or thrown on the floor!
its 2 slices of bread for the sandwich

dinner is whatever we have - fish and vegetables, chicken and vegetables curry , stir fry , things like that she has a toddler plate so the portions aren’t big and she never has a second helping

I am using full fat milk for porridge though maybe I could swap that for skimmed or semi skimmed ? Can’t think what else to change really.

2-3 or 3-4 but they are then far too long in arms and legs but we need that size so that they fit round her

If she weighs 2 stone 8 at 18 months then she is massively off the growth charts and I would probably speak to your GP or HV. I think that's a good idea. What size clothes is she in? It must be tricky if she is short to get leggings to fit ok?

trousers are hard as they are always too long for her if they fit her waist !

OP posts:
goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 13:29

I’ll definitely have a chat with hv and see what they think, they can do her height properly too as I can’t measure her myself as she won’t stay still and it probably won’t be accurate ! So if they do it they can plot her correctly on the chart and I’ll see if they want her to see the gp

Op, the short issue is a complete red herring. She should weight less not more because she is short. In the kindest possible way, you don’t seem to be taking in how heavy she really is for her age. You need to see someone about her urgently

I think I’ve said a few times that yes I will be speaking to the hv tomorrow - I’m not overly concerned though as she is happy , active, not overeating so I will ask the hv to do accurate weight and height then do whatever they advise

Time for a doctors visit. Your child is not "wide". This isn't healthy nor normal op

Yes but if it’s not about over eating then there could be a bigger concern. I just meant you seemed to be brushing it off a bit as her being short or wide, and just getting her checked by he, but plenty of posters are saying this is heavier than their 5 or 6 year old so something is going on

Surely from reading what everyone has to say here you should be very concerned.
If she's eating healthy foods and a sensible amount then there could be something far more worrying causing this huge weight.
She's literally thr size of people's 4/5/6 year old children at only 18 months. Her being short only makes the weight more concerning. If she was extremely tall then you could allow for extra weight to balance out the height.

goldsparklyChocolate · 24/04/2022 13:38

Yes she’s definitely bigger than average and I will call the hv tomorrow for advice . She needs to be weighed and measured accurately with their scales etc too I imagine and me standing her on the home ones says 2-8 but it might not be accurate and needs her height done too to calculate exactly where she is and I’ll go from there

The health visitor will refer you to the GP anyway as your child's weight is definitely not normal, if you are sure of your own measurements?

I'd be worried about an abdominal swelling or growth disorder as she is so completely out of range.

I will seek advice tomorrow - there’s not really anything I can do today on a Sunday !

im not concerned at the moment as looking at her I see a happy content active child. Obviously I will seek professional advice and act on it accordingly but I’m not going to panic until there’s a reason to !

The face she is 18 months and wearing ages 2-3 and 3-4 clothes shows that she is still overweight even without weighing her. Especially as she's short like you say.

I just used the home scales (digital) but I’ll make sure she is weighed and measured by the hv as theirs may be more precise if they are medical ones ?

RewildingAmbridge · 24/04/2022 13:43

You must've misread the scales there is no way an 18 month old is that heavy, especially if short without looking absolutely huge.
DS is 75-90 centile for height, and 50-75th for weight he's 3.5 very active and eats loads, he weighs a lot less than you say she does, it's got to be a mistake and if not there could be a serious underlying medical condition.

I'd want to be seen asap by the GP tbh. They will be able to weigh & measure her at the practice. But if you feel it's best to see the HV first then that's fine - be aware that they will only refer her onto the GP anyway if there's a problem, so I'd want to cut out the middle man.

Oh good grief!!
Op has repeatedly agreed that yes she will get her checked out, yet people keep jumping on the thread saying the same thing. Which just feels unkind now.

I know that I can contact the hv easily and get an appt whereas it’s near impossible to get a gp appt but if there’s an issue I think the hv could call them and get us seen quick if needs be.

just booking a gp appt I can only book phone consultations in 3.5 weeks time ! To get an i person appt you have to phone and they rarely answer or there’s a queue and you have to wait ages so I think it will be easier to call hv tomorrow get seen and weighed on professional scales and height done properly

How big is your baby?!
my 4 year old fits in a size 6! She weights just under 3 stone and is 5 in a couple of weeks
