For me it has to be jack monroe. She spends all her time showing people how to eat on a budget. Amazing thread this morning where she does a whole weeks worth of food for 37p a meal! Imagine if she was in government

Not sure where the Andy Burnham love comes from. He is one of many who pushes his luck with his expenses. A very quick and unscientific google give these examples. There are loads more...

Independant Article here. It's behind a paywall but the info is easy to google
"Andy Burnham has been claiming more than £17,000 a year in expenses to rent a flat in London despite owning another property a short walk from Westminster"

In 2015 Info on MPs expenses
MPs’ expenses: Labour leadership contender Andy Burnham has claimed most out all MPs so far this financial year

In 2008 the Manchester Evening News reported HEALTH Secretary Andy Burnham paid £90 to sponsor the mayor of Wigan’s charity calendar – then claimed it back in expenses

None of these incidents were illegal but they sure say a lot about his character.

Oh dear, I’m sorry to break this to you but Jack Monroe is no working class hero and was never poor. She has created a back story that is false but has provided her with a very very lucrative ‘career’. She continues with her poverty cosplay to keep the money rolling in.

She grew up in a very well off family, 5 bedroom house, Range Rover, holidays, many extra curricular activities, grammar school etc etc. I don’t expect you to believe me but if you do some research it’s all out there.
And her (now-ex?) partner must have been pretty well off too - Head of News & Current Affairs at C4. Hardly on the breadline.

Neverreturntoathread · 19/04/2022 20:26

I hadn’t heard of Jack Monroe before but just googled. Expect she is very nice etc but please - no more journalists!! We have so many ex-journalists in politics at the moment and there’s been such a shift towards ‘say anything doesn’t matter if it’s true’. When I was younger there were loads of ex-lawyers in government and they were just brighter and more hard-working with a sense of what lines you just don’t cross.

Any ex-lawyers wanna be PM?

Julia Hartley Brewer

Slatkater · 19/04/2022 20:30

@CornishGem1975

I’m waiting for the Netflix documentary series expose. There will be a lot of embarrassment from people/organisations who fell for her guff without any checks.

sorrysaywhatnow · 19/04/2022 20:34

Jack Monroe???!!!! Are people being serious? Please tell me that's a joke.

Martin Lewis is a good shout to be fair.

Comedycook · 19/04/2022 20:57

@Grendello

Julia Hartley Brewer
I think she's fab!
ThatshallotBaby · 19/04/2022 21:02

I second Sandi Tosvig.

tiredanddangerous · 19/04/2022 21:12

Well if we're looking for someone who'd do a better job than Boris I could offer up my 12 year old. Or my cat.

Rachelw84 · 19/04/2022 21:14

Michael Palin

The world would be a better place with more Michael Palin’s around - he’s travelled the world and would offer a wide perspective on life

LynetteScavo · 19/04/2022 21:22

I wondered how long it would take for someone to say Sandi Tosvig. I just don't get the MN live for her.

I'd prefer Claire Balding. Or Ted Lasso.

LynetteScavo · 19/04/2022 21:24

How about Tracy Beaker? She be better than Jack Monroe.

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 21:34

@LynetteScavo

Me neither. I’d definitely vote for Ted Lasso though - he and I have done some very naughty things in my dreams.
ThatshallotBaby · 19/04/2022 22:06

Well if it’s people we fancy then it’s got to be Tom Hardy.

redbigbananafeet · 19/04/2022 22:15

@WhereWasThatFrom

Are people suggesting Jack Monroe being serious 😕
Yes because she knows what it's like to live in poverty and how to eat healthily on a budget. Something that millions, literally millions, of parents are failing to do for their children.
HollowTalk · 19/04/2022 22:17
@decentchap shame there's no nominative determinism at work on you
Sometimes I really really really wish there was a like button on here.

noodlezoodle · 19/04/2022 22:18
@BingoBungle Harriet Harman is Mother of the House (Longest standing female MP) but will step down from politics soon. Her husband was a MP for Birmingham and died suddeny this year. It was incredibly moving when MPs gave tributes in the House to him (he was a feminst who championed Harriet's work and encouraged many other female MPs.) Their life of public service puts the self-serving current cabinet to shame.

Yvette Cooper can cut through the crap and knows her stuff. I like Jess Phillips and think she will make a good minister but I don't think she has the gravitas for PM.

Lets face it ANYONE is going to look & sound more competent as PM than the current incumbent. Just think of all the intellectual might of previous PMs that had their weekly meetings with the Queen & now she has to put up with this lying toerag.
Agree with pretty much all of this, but it makes me sad that Jess Philips isn't viewed as having gravitas but Boris is.

(I don't mean by you CakeAmbushAlert, just that men are cut so much slack in this regard where women aren't).

Notdoingthis · 19/04/2022 22:18

Vanessa Feltz

ChampagneJustBecause · 19/04/2022 22:19

Another vote for Zolensky.

And I will be his First Lady. Bow to your queen.

JaniceBattersby · 19/04/2022 22:41

Tony Blair, Jess Philips, James O’Brien, Gary Neville. The Secret Barrister and Ed Miliband (he’s been fab recently on the radio).

I’d probs find room for Andy Burnham and Andrew Marr in there.

FairyCakeWings · 19/04/2022 22:41

Yes because she knows what it's like to live in poverty and how to eat healthily on a budget. Something that millions, literally millions, of parents are failing to do for their children.

And as everyone knows, being able to cook cheap food is exactly what will solve all this country’s problems Hmm

RedTitsMcGinty · 19/04/2022 22:44

Lololll, Jack Monroe is a self-serving, middle class poverty tourist who doesn’t pay her taxes.

I vote for Michael Sheen.

rc22 · 19/04/2022 22:47

I think Clive Myrie would be good.

Clymene · 19/04/2022 22:52

I'd like Jo Rowling, Martin Lewis, Tim Hartford, Maya Forstater, Kellie-Jay Keen, Andy Burnham, Justin Webb and my cat to be in the Cabinet.

My cat doesn't suffer fools and has a mean right hook (with claws)

NevaehMind · 19/04/2022 22:54

JK Rowling
