Do you think the queen is really poorly?

As in dying 😔. I know she is very old and fragile at 95 but I do wonder if she is trying to keep going until the Royal jubilee.

Seems ghoulish to speculate but I'd expect that if the worst did happen then, depending on timing, the two bank holidays would either be absorbed into a period of national mourning or would be turned into some sort of celebration/thanksgiving event.

Hospedia · 09/05/2022 22:14

Celebration of life I mean

Bimster · 09/05/2022 22:16

She has bone cancer apparently.

It is going to be such a huge change for so many people. I have only known one monarch whereas my in-laws have known three iirc. I hope she is well and not in any pain.

She's also the last queen the majority of us will ever see. After this comes at least 3 kings - Charles, William, then George. Ruling queens are comparatively rare in history, it will be the end of an era in more ways than one.

I won't speculate as to her health but at the end of the day she's a 96 year old woman, and none of us live forever.

TokyoSushi · 09/05/2022 22:28

I know I always say the same thing but she's 96, she's just very very old. The absolute vast majority of people don't make that age, she's blind to be slowing down very significantly now.

How do you know that? Genuine question

RoseWindow · 09/05/2022 22:29

Just seen that HMQ is missing the Queens Speech. I wish her all the best whatever the situation she’s in at the moment.

Fair enough to pull out of opening Parliament. All the notable parliamentarians she's presided over for 60 years, and this lot are what she's left with. She can't vote, so she's staying home to watch the racing is my bet, in the monarch equitation spoiling ones ballot.

100problems · 09/05/2022 22:38

70 years. Damn you maths!

Aw lovely thought & me too. I'm quite sure she isn't going to step down but is taking a step back physically, I'm sure HM will still be giving the orders and making the decisions.

Says who?

Neverendingdust · 09/05/2022 22:46

I’d imagine she’s doing as posted above and staying home in protest of the scandalous scoundrels this current parliament is filled with.

In all seriousness though shes all we’ve known and irrespective of how you view the Royal family she has been spectacular. I truly hope she doesn’t have a miserable end and is able to pass away peacefully.

stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou · 09/05/2022 22:48

She's gone downhill since she lost her husband.

I can't abide the people who are like oh dear poor her etc. I'm not a royalist but shes a 95 year old woman who has lost her husband and doesnt see her grandson.

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 09/05/2022 22:41

Says who?

That is also my understanding which to be fair at her age wouldn't be very unusual.

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 09/05/2022 22:52

The change in her even since October is quite marked.

viques · 09/05/2022 22:52

If I was in my mid nineties and a bit wobbly on my feet the last thing I would want is the eyes of the world watching me and waiting for me to fall over and break my hip on live tv.

Peregrina · 09/05/2022 22:52

Private Eye keeps saying that she is a lot more ill than the Palace is letting on. They said that too about the Duke of Edinburgh and were correct, so I suspect they are correct this time too.

100problems · 09/05/2022 22:54

To be fair @Peregrina a stopped clock is right twice a day. Saying a 96 year old is poorly is a fairly steady bet.

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 09/05/2022 22:57

Apparently the QM has colon cancer and breast cancer during her life. No word was ever breathed of it.

Peregrina · 09/05/2022 22:59

But she does seem to have gone down very quickly, as people of that age very often do.

It might well fit with what we know of her health - went into hospital recently but perhaps that was for diagnostic tests and nothing can be done. Backache and a lack of mobility fits too. I certainly don't wish bone cancer on her. No doubt she has good days and bad days.

in the seventies my mum had colon cancer, she had a colostomy and the nurses all assured her that it was common knowledge among the nursing profession that QM had one too. Not that my mother cared a damn about the QM, but that’s another story.

Peregrina · 09/05/2022 23:15

I think I had heard a vague rumour of the QM having a colostomy before it was made official. It's not something I took much notice of though.

thenewduchessoflapland · 09/05/2022 23:17

She's a 96 year woman who's still been working when other women her age retired 36 years ago and has outlived most other women born in the same year she was.

She's just lost the absolute love of her life and has had Covid.

Every additional day she gets here in this life is a blessing and as with all other folks her age is living on borrowed time.

Every 96 year old will have health issues of some sort and can die at any time.
