Do you think the queen is really poorly?

As in dying 😔. I know she is very old and fragile at 95 but I do wonder if she is trying to keep going until the Royal jubilee.

OP posts:
Bouledeneige · 11/05/2022 09:15

My father is 92 and he cannot stand for more than 10 minutes, walks in tiny shuffley steps and a trip to hospital for a check up completely exhausts him for days afterwards.

I think she is now very old and frail as you would expect at her age. At that age you never get 'better' really. She might die before the jubilee or make it for a while longer. She won't need to be ill - she could just die of old age and being worn out and be grateful for it. When you get that frail life can be a bit of a chore and death a release.

52andblue · 11/05/2022 09:34

I agree that public interest in the Monarchy will dwindle after the Queen dies (esp if the Official Mourning is seen as OTT / inappropriate in these times
I thought Charles looked utterly miserable yesterday. The Papers mostly show him looking dubiously at the Crown on its cushion. His delivery of the Speech was remarkably flat. It may be the case that, with a hereditary monarchy we, the public who pay for it, do not 'get to choose' who next represents us.
I think the Crown's best chance for survival would be for Charles to abdicate in favour of William (or, although I don't personally wish him ill, at least not live too long)

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 11/05/2022 09:59

I agree but I think he probably wants to spare William for a bit. I thought William looked miserable too.

Wasn’t that the speculation about why the Queen would hang on in there until she dies?

That Charles doesn’t want/they think he’s too useless to be King (don’t ask me for articles, I’ve read many over the years about it, but I doubt I would find any again!), and they all want to spare William until he’s older, family older etc.

Dinoteeth · 11/05/2022 11:25

I don't think Charles will stand aside for William, it doesn't make any sense.
Charles will be like HMQ, and work as long as he can. Partly due to respect for his Mother and partly to keep pressure of William as long as possible.

At the moment there are 8 senior working Royals, HMQ, Charles & Camilla, Anne, Ed & Sophie, William & Kate.

If Charles was to stand aside it would be unreasonable to expect Ann to keep working. So that would leave just 4 senior working Royals, and Wills kids still too young to start working.

There is slimming the monarchy down and there's cutting it beyond the bone.
So for those reasons I think Charles will work as long as he is able to.

Yes she is - the newspapers have had the nod - it's why meghan and harry have come over

Absolute rubbish! Harry and Meghan are coming over with the kids to make it all about themselves! Its all for attention and Netflix! If it was about the Queen meeting their daughter they would have done it quietly way before all eyes are on the royals for the jubilee!

I think it is sad that she won't be seen using a wheel chair, which might be a very good solution to her mobility issues. I think in a way it is disrespectful to disabled people.

I think there is a difference between using one because you are disabled - which many young people do - and using one because you are less mobile because of age. Many people don't want to display visible signs of ageing. That is not insulting to disabled people.

Lisbeth50 · 11/05/2022 07:19

Well, it'll be quite interesting to see bank notes, coins, stamps, military and police uniforms, insignia etc all be changed to have Charles' face instead of the Queen. Will be quite weird.

Why do people keep saying this? It won't happen at all, only for any new ones. Coins with the King's head on were still being used in the 80s & 90s.

They can't have been can they? Decimalisation was in the 70s.

If you’re not old enough to remember, then you shouldn’t make assertions.

Until the coins were changed to the current new, tiny 5 and 10p pieces, their predecessor, larger ones were still in use - 5p coins were a mix of 5 pence coins from post-decimalisation, and old shilling pieces, which were the same size and weight, and counted as 5p. Similar for 10p coins and two-shilling pieces. The decimal coins were designed this way to ease the transition.

All coins weren’t recalled and replaced overnight in 1971 - can you imagine the logistics of that?

Despinetta · 11/05/2022 16:10

I was born in 1976 and can remember George VI on coins very well.

Roussette · 11/05/2022 16:18

I was born way before then, and have lots of pre decimalisation coins stashed somewhere, must dig them out. They were huge compared to today's coins!

I remember decimalisation really well, it did take a while to get my head round it, but it was logical and simple and so much better, I think the very elderly struggled though.

Hospedia · 11/05/2022 17:39

I was born in 81 and remember getting old money in the change when sent to the shop, especially sixpences and old pennies.

I remember pound notes too and halfpenny coins :)

Peregrina · 11/05/2022 17:43

For those too young to remember, we used also to have 10 shilling notes. A five pound note was a big deal.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/05/2022 19:01

i used to collect King george VI coins, 5ps and 10ps, until there were recalled - and i know i am not the only saddo one

I don't see the difference. You use a wheelchair because you are not able to stand or move around easily. I've had a leg amputated above the knee and the other below the knee. Most of the time I can get about just fine and nobody would know but there are days when I need crutches or a chair or a blue badge space. I don't see the shame in it.

LampLighter414 · 11/05/2022 19:30

Time to get rid of the monarchy once and for all once Queenie is gone I think

urkidding · 12/05/2022 07:08

The Queen has a huge PR machine working for her. She also threatens newspapers with not inviting them to her press conferences, which means they lost out on sales. She sends her money abroad so that she hasn't got to pay tax as shown be the Paradise papers which only showed a drop in the ocean. Several millions are hidden abroad.

I have no skin in the game and am not entering a debate about the rights and wrongs of the case, but the Crown and its estates is exempt from tax. The Queen and Prince of Wales voluntarily pay tax on their income from the estates of the Duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall, which they aren’t required to do, but this arrangement was set up in the 90s. So if HMQ did want not to pay tax, she could just stop paying it.

Personal income for the POW and the others is taxed in the normal way, and no doubt they use whatever tools are available to them, and everyone else, to legally minimise the amount they pay. Again, there are clearly big issues with the ability to avoid paying tax in this country, but plenty of rich individuals do this within the existing laws.

ValerieCupcake · 13/05/2022 13:43

She looks well enough for her age on the pictures I have seen today. She's at the horse show with a stick.

Goodness,it is always so enlightening to hear from a trusted and reliable insider sharing their privileged and accurate information which they have learned about first hand by questioning those closely involved and having access to verified documentation.

Really nice to see the photos of the Queen looking so well and happy today.

starlingdarling · 13/05/2022 18:17

I had a little giggle at the thought of her going "I'm only up to one event this week... horses it is". The opening of parliament looks like a bore so good for her prioritising some enjoyment in her final years.

I'm no monarchist tbh but I thought exactly the same.
