I’ve emailed my Boris supporting MP nonetheless.

jgw1 · 14/04/2022 09:12

@ancientgran

I guess I'm quite lucky in that my Conservative MP is one who has come out and said he's sent his letter in. I had a few email exchanges with him about it a couple of months back and he is good about replying.

I'm going to email him today to ask him if he can let the powers that be know how much Michael Fabricant has upset people with his comments about teachers and nurses.

Sorry to distract with the Rwanda situation but I was surprised when a Conservative MP (didn't catch his name) said the scheme was for men, then I think changed it to mainly men. I thought about a maybe 18 year old gay man desperate to escape a country where he is likely to be killed and all we can do is send him off to Rwanda. It is heartbreaking. Doesn't it seem to be against UK discrimination legislation if this policy is deliberately targetting men?

Oh, the first time they try to actually deport people, it will be in the courts for longer than it should take to process an asylum application. Then the government will play do gooder lawyers for getting in their way, and the Daily Wail will lap it up.

I think it is important that everyone who feels passionately about this does email their MP, whilst it might not change a pro Boris MP into one who is writing a letter to the 1922, it might change them to being a bit more hostile, which may make the already hostile MPs more confident in writing letters.
ancientgran · 14/04/2022 09:14

jgw1 I obviously didn't think it through. I wonder if Rwanda will still get the money?

ancientgran · 14/04/2022 09:16

But I guess we now know why Cummings got away with his eye test test trip to Barnard Castle. Was it the photos of these parties in that briefcase he guarded with his life?! I was angry about Cummings at the time but with what we know now I can understand why he thought the rules were a joke.

Most of the money will go to one of Boris' already unnecessarily rich mates as a consultant, very little will go to Rwanda. See also the reports of how the money for the refit of the Moskva was spent.
InMySpareTime · 14/04/2022 09:26

My MP is Graham Brady, there's never been much point writing to him, even less so on this!

ancientgran · 14/04/2022 09:41

It's all so depressing isn't it. I almost feel to ill to worry (7th week of covid and post covid illness) but when I'm lying away feeling awful these things torment me.

Remembering some miserable times (God the 50s were depressing and the 70s were scary) but I don't think I've ever felt so abused by politicians.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2022 09:45

Johnson could of course call his own vote of confidence. If he wins, he is safe for a year. Would he do that?

Considering the stampede of MPs wanting to express their support I doubt it would be much of a risk - and as said before they'll go right on backing him unless their own positions are at risk

Roussette · 14/04/2022 09:47

I agree ancientgran and when you're not feeling well, it just drags you down I imagine.

I think we'll look back on the Johnson years and Brexit as the time the UK lost their collective minds.
Unfortunately we're still in the thick of it at the moment

RishiRich · 14/04/2022 09:54

I've written to my MP but she's Labour anyway.

Boris needs to go. Rishi needs to quit on grounds of honour to force his hand.

I struggled massively with anxiety after my first bout of covid. I think related to the fear because I was so ill and it was as went into lockdown and people were dying at home.

I had the initial March 2020 strain with the struggling to breath and vice like chest. It took me longer mentally to recover than physically. Physically it took me about 8 weeks to be close to resembling anything close to well enough to function properly.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

See I think Cummings took the piss massively. More so then alcohol after work.He absolutely knew he was breaking the law.

Fir me it’s the difference between a parking fine, speeding fine and leaving the scene of an accident. I wouldn’t expect an MP or PM to resign from the first two but certainly the latter.

Peregrina · 14/04/2022 11:18

Well, it's not for me. People in this country suffered major restrictions on their liberty, at times being effectively under house arrest. Meanwhile the people who made the law broke it, lied about breaking it and now having suffered a very modest penalty are still refusing to take the honourable course of action.

Perhaps if they contacted everyone who had paid a fine and repaid them and expunged it from the record, it might begin to show some redress.

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2022 11:20

What about lying about parking or speeding? That's happened. MP deselected.

Notonthestairs · 14/04/2022 11:44

"Fir me it’s the difference between a parking fine, speeding fine and leaving the scene of an accident. I wouldn’t expect an MP or PM to resign from the first two but certainly the latter."

Again neatly overlooking the fact that they approved the legislation, voted on it whilst only giving limited time for debate, went on our screens practically daily to tell us to save lives, publicised and applauded small children cancelling their own birthday celebrations #belikejosephine, and then the casual lies to Parliament and failure to correct the record (breach of Ministerial Code - not for the first time). There is also the ridiculous foot dragging and obfuscation which went on when the issue was raised.

They are an absolute shower but apparently the best the party can come up with 🙄

Not for me either.

For me the thing is the bare faced lies. Sunak all sweet and innocent on TV interview saying he didn't do it, Johnson lying to parliament. Cummings was just an employee, people voted for the two liars so I don't care about anything else.

What about Chris Huhne and his wife, they both went to prison for lying about a speeding offence. Obviously Chris Huhne had to stop being an MP as well.

Maybe Johnson and Sunak should go to prison for the equivalent of lying about speeding.

ancientgran · 14/04/2022 12:03

@itsgettingweird Thank you, I think the torment for me is I have a day where I think it is getting better and then the next day I'm back to square one. It's like mental torture.

The worst thing will resolve, I've broken a rib with coughing and it is uncomfortable, painful when I cough and total agony if I sneeze. But bones heal don't they.

Roussette · 14/04/2022 12:29

Oh my goodness ancientgran that is horrible.
I had rib/muscle ache from coughing but absolutely nothing remotely like that, and it was only for a day or two.
Yes bones heal but still really ghastly

Boris Johnson 'nothing to see here snd did I tell you I'm sending immigrants on a one way trip to Rwanda. Think about that instead! '

littledrummergirl · 14/04/2022 13:12

Ancientgran I know how you feel. Day 14 for me. Although testing negative I'm still coughing. Dh woke me up last night as I was choking. Today my cheeks are flushed again and I have a slight temperature.
Dh and I are supposed to be going away tonight for a couple of days without the dc.
I'm feeling sorry for myself today and more pissed off with the government and Conservative party members

itsgettingweird · 14/04/2022 13:22

Sorry for all those still suffering covid and it's affects.

I had it again in January and luckily this time it was just like a case of viral tonsillitis. So I felt very rough for 48 hours but recovered well after. Probably didn't feel right for 3-4 days and that was it.

It's certainly a nasty virus - even this lesser virulent strain.

Alexandra2001 · 14/04/2022 13:55

So we have "Send migrants to Rwanda" to distract from ONE fine, what will we get if he gets another THREE ????

I'm quaking!
