Would help if I attached thread!

Cornettoninja · 22/04/2022 08:58

Thanks for this. Simon Jenkins has summed up my thoughts succinctly and presented a (deliberately) disordered series of events in an orderly fashion.

Cornettoninja · 22/04/2022 09:03

Thanks @Notonthestairs those are some interesting predictions - I would have liked him to end on a slightly more positive note though!

Blossomtoes · 22/04/2022 09:06

Thank you @Notonthestairs. I think he’s broadly right but I don’t think the Tories can recover from this as quickly as he thinks.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2022 09:07

Yes. Labour will need to pivot if Hunt gets in. Johnson has played in to Starmer's hands.

DowningStreetParty · 22/04/2022 09:34

Crikey Jeremy Hunt? Surely not. Tugendhat I have a lot of time and respect for and I am a Labour voter. Interesting pick! He’s got an international outlook, proper life experience of service and running crucial and sensitive projects before Westminster, got a Kent constituency so hopefully sensitive to the real effects of Brexit not just flogging it for all its worth. I don’t know that much about his political aims for the country so we need to know more about that other than the impressive CV but he certainly appears to have integrity and had a life experience making him capable of political nuance. And that’s what is sorely needed right now.
Jeremy ‘Bum clinch’ Hunt is as sleazy as the rest of them around Boris. The Tories are very prone to sleaze and need a full cohort clear out every so often, and that time is now.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2022 09:38

I agree @DowningStreetParty but the thread suggests that they will go with a non quantity (for now).

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2022 09:38

Known not non!

Yes. Labour will need to pivot if Hunt gets in. Johnson has played in to Starmer's hands.

Given that Hunt oversaw the Department for Health and Social Care for many years, then he is well placed to explain why it is such a mess.
Has he explained the lack of pandemic planning yet?

The twitter chap is clearly confused.
Have they not met @JaniieJones

There is not a single person who seriously believes Johnson did not lie.

SueSaid · 22/04/2022 10:03

The twitter chap clearly is confused. I don't know one person who doesn't think it's a desperate smear campaign to get rid of BJ and get some wet lettuce like Hunt as leader which would then give Labour and their ragtag bunch of misfits a small chance of a win in 2024.

Labour need to stop using bereaved relatives to further their aims. These were workplace interactions that were common with key workers all over the country.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 22/04/2022 10:08

This is no longer about Johnson and his lies. It's about the whole conservative party and their attitude to democracy and accountability. Every single tory who refuses to say he should go if found to have lied to parliament needs to be thrown out the door with him. It's one thing being stupid enough to think he hasn't lied, it's a whole other shitshow to know he's lied but think that's ok.

Blossomtoes · 22/04/2022 10:11

What people you know think is of no importance @JaniieJones. When Steve Baker says the gig is up, you know it’s the end.

HarrietPierce · 22/04/2022 10:12

JaniieJones Even the Tories don't agree with you.

newnamethanks · 22/04/2022 10:13

Jeremy Hunt? The Jeremy Hunt referred to by his staff in a previous office as 'Mr Hunt with a C'. That one? Gosh.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2022 10:13

Oh yes, back to the strategic covid meeting with your wife and interior designer present Cake

This is a long read but from memory is completely accurate about Hunt and the NHS. He was brought in to detoxify after the Lansley’s Health and Social care reforms in the 2010s had become a complete liability for the Cameron government with disabled protesters chaining themselves to the gates of Downing Street etc.

Hunt then got dropped in as a clean skin to push through Lansley’s vsion which he did. Hunt became a deeply unpopular Health Secretary causing junior doctors to strike and having successive NHS patient data sell-off scandals on his watch. He also allowed private companies to pick off the most straightforward and easy to profit from NHS caseload, leaving the NHS to provide the complex and expensive to provide cases on less money, which is a model that not surprisingly gave the NHS even greater financial pain. From memory this is very accurate: www.opendemocracy.net/en/ournhs/what-did-jeremy-hunt-do-to-the-nhs-and-how-has-he-got-away-with-it/

So I don’t feel Jeremy Hunt is a safe pair of hands at all. And I don’t even want to think about his hands after the office bum grope snog pictures. Yick.
If I was a Tory I’d be looking very hard for a leader with a clean record. They’ve completely blown it with the current crop.

I think you have confused Hunt with Handcock in the last paragraph.

But how anyone can think that the person who is responsible more than any other single person for the mess the NHS is now in, is a good choice for Prime Minister baffles me.

DowningStreetParty · 22/04/2022 10:37

(Fabricant claimed doctors, nurses and teachers were drinking in their staffrooms after work in the pandemic!) The other thread on this got deleted with pages of testimonies to what offensive nonsense that was, but this one survives:

DowningStreetParty · 22/04/2022 10:39

God so sorry - abject apologies to Hunt. Not had coffee yet. Thank you for pointing it out.

SueSaid · 22/04/2022 10:41

'Fabricant claimed doctors, nurses and teachers were drinking in their staffrooms after work in the pandemic!'

Yes he shouldn't have said drinking as I don't know any key workers boozing at work. I do know plenty who had cake and takeaways together and weren't arrested or given fpns though. Those tiktok dances! all in ppe what fun and japes.

Blossomtoes · 22/04/2022 10:43

On the other hand, Hunt couldn’t even remember what nationality his wife is.

Is my workplace unique in that if we brought booze in and consumed it, we would be shown the door?
