Amber Heard has now alleged Johnny Depp sexually assaulted her at the start of the defamation trial. Thoughts?

@kerrypeeper

I always thought they were as bad as each other. Completely toxic, both victims & abusers.
Yeah, some people bring out the absolute worst in each other. She seems conniving to me. He's an alcoholic and drug addict going through some bizarre mid life crisis, like a sad old man. I don't think anyone is a victim here, they clearly both got off on the drama. Wish they'd just fade into obscurity to be honest.
LauriePartridge4Eva · 12/04/2022 22:55
@KitBumbleB Tim was happy to keep casting him in movies until this came out, so he can't have been that bothered about his behaviour towards Kate Moss. Sounds like he's just saving his own skin.
Men do that. He 'took a stand' only when it would be favourable to him.

Women,...don't waste your breath backing Jonny Depp. If you were being abused, he would be fucking nowhere,

ComDummings · 12/04/2022 23:00

They both seem like awful people tbh

RonaldMcDonald · 13/04/2022 01:34

Depp has been tried in the High Court in London and it was evidenced that he was guilty of being a wife beater on 12 occasions and the judge could evidence Depp putting Heard in fear of her life on 3 occasions.
This was from evidence produced by Depp v The Sun newspaper.

Reading many of the comments here I am surprised we are called out as a feminist board.
If after Judges have decided on the evidence he presented that he was in fact a wife beater why are you still saying terrible things about Heard?

What chance have abused women got when this is how you behave around Depp?

midsomermurderess · 13/04/2022 01:37

These proceedings seem fundamentally to be about a redistribution of wealth more than anything.

RonaldMcDonald · 13/04/2022 01:38

@ItsDisneyBitch

Paul Bettany has really not come across well at all either.

This story always makes me feel slightly sick about Johnny Depp.

I am the survivor of an abusive marriage. My ex husband beat me, raped me both anally and vaginally. No one believed me not even my family. My ex was charming, is still charming and has remarried. I feel like I’m going mad when I try to tell people what he was like, like it was all in my head.

I’m really sorry that happened to you. I believe you. I hope you can get support from a rape crisis service and domestic abuse services near where you live. So often abuse goes on without anyone knowing but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or doesn’t make it less real. I’m sorry you faced that and weren’t treated better

I had no idea about this either. I will google that case also.

She is by NO means innocent, but he gets the worse words and press because she's a woman and people deep down don't like to believe women can abuse.

noodlezoodle · 13/04/2022 02:19

I think he's continuing to abuse her via court cases. He seems to be simply unable to leave her alone and move on with her life.

He has already lost his case against The Sun, where she was a witness (NOT the person who bought the case), so I can't imagine why he thinks he's going to win this case.

I agree. It's sickening how quickly women jump to defend male abusers - the patriarchy runs all on its own, with internalised misogyny doing its bidding. Jonny Depp is a vile, vile abuser. He no doubt thinks he is teaching Amber Heard a lesson by dragging her through the courts again, it's all part of his game to humiliate her.

I was a massive JD fan - I used to hunt out his more obscure art-house films in tiny cinema screens - I genuinely think he was a stunningly crafter actor, but I will never watch a film of his again.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/04/2022 07:45

I don't see anyone defending Johnny Depp. I don't like him. I just don't think that Amber Heard is a poor abused woman. I think it was abusive on BOTH sides.

croon979 · 13/04/2022 08:06

I have been watching some of the trial live. I find the US justice system quite frustrating - too many “objections” being sustained or overruled - very stop and start. That being said, when it is in flow I am finding it quite interesting. It was his sister giving evidence yesterday and she came across rather well.

I think AH and JD are both batshit.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/04/2022 08:12

The marriage appears to have been the very definition of toxic and the accounts suggest that both he and she were abusive to each other, emotionally and physically.

I presume what came out openly in the US court yesterday - the sexual abuse accusations - were the details that the UK court case permitted her to testify about behind closed doors.

The texts between him and Bettany are vile and hard to get beyond in terms of how brutally misogynistic they are. Anyone who can talk about women in that language fundamentally hates them. Depp always made me uncomfortable but I’ve never been able to look at Bettany the same way since.

This.

But this is MN, so nobody will admit it.

AgnesNaismith · 13/04/2022 12:49

Admit it?? That implies people are lying to themselves or hiding their real opinions. They aren’t - Johnny Depp said he would fuck her dead burnt body. You think that guy wasn’t the perpetrator? Ok then.

Absolutely agree. Those messages were genuinely sickening. I wouldn't be able to stay in a relationship with someone if they had written those words and I'm surprised that Jennifer Connelly has stayed with him and that he hasn't had more bad press around it tbh. Vile man.

This.

Those 2 need to shut up and fuck off.

And this.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/04/2022 12:59

I think she's as bad as him and that they should both shut up and disappear now

BrinksmansEntry · 13/04/2022 13:10

I think the reason neither are going to stop and fuck off is because they both, JD in particular, need to be innocent. They have both lost work because of the legal cases. Unless a judge announces one or other was wrong, they won't get their name cleared and be marketable again.

Whilst they are both - individually or as a toxic couple - thought of as abusers, they won't be employed for a long time.

I have no opinion about who did what to whom, who is right or wrong. Not my circus, not my monkeys. But it is clear that this is all coming back to money.

Lockheart · 13/04/2022 14:17

I make no comment on who I think was guilty / worse than the other.

All I can gather is that the relationship appears to have been incredibly volatile. I can't believe they're still fighting each other in court. They've been trying to sue each other for longer than the relationship lasted!

They should really both be advised to drop it now. They both have enough money to pay for as much therapy and rehab as they want to get over it.

If there is a criminal charge to answer then it should be done properly. All this suing each other for libel / defamation is pointless.

It's disturbing.

But then there are also people defending Depp's best buddy Marilyn Manson. Wonder if the two of them sit around comparing notes.

Agree. They are disgusting.

Paul Bettany seems to have escaped with his career unharmed somehow. I wish he'd had to face the music more, disappointing what people are willing to look past.

foxlover47 · 13/04/2022 14:41

It was the texts he sent to Bettany , as far as I'm concerned to talk of her in that way showed me all I would ever need to know about him as a person ... scum

weleasewoderick23 · 13/04/2022 14:50

I see nobody has mentioned that she was (allegedly) having an affair with Elon Musk at the beginning of her marriage to Depp and has had a baby since that may be fathered by Musk.

I agree with pp, they should both fuck off. Privileged twats.

Cleopatra2022 · 13/04/2022 14:55

I find it utterly bizarre how people can disregard the evidence that point to JD being abusive just because they fancy him, or used to.

He has always been in the press for violence that I can recall? He is also undeniably a massive abuser of drugs and alcohol and by his own admission doesn't remember a lot of what happens when he is under the influence.

Amber Heard was not convicted of assault on her ex-wife. The ex-wife herself has said so, but nobody wants to believe it.

Vanessa Paradis has a vested interest in saying that he was not abusive to her since she has 2 children with him who will not benefit from him being found guilty. From what I have read it seems that she spent a lot of time trying to "calm" him and placate him. Whereas Amber Heard did not.
