Readers of this thread may have seen that Eve Barlow has been excluded from the courtroom and may be wondering what that was about.
Last week, Gina Deuters was ejected as a witness and the jury were told to disregard her evidence. This happened after Deuters admitted watching clips from the trial on social media. The court doesn't want witnesses watching the trial before giving evidence. As an aside, this is another difference from the trial in the UK, where Heard's sister watched the trial before giving evidence and then appeared to tailor her evidence to match Heard's. In essence, the evidence Heard gave on the witness stand about the incident her sister allegedly witnessed appeared to be at odds with her sister's witness statement, but the evidence the sister gave on the witness stand matched Heard's.
How does this involve Eve Barlow? She was sitting immediately behind Heard's legal team and passed her mobile phone to them, showing an Instagram post about the trial by Gina Deuters. This led to Deuters being questioned as to whether she had watched clips of the trial. However, it turns out that the post that was represented to the court as having been made during the trial was actually posted last year. This, of course, doesn't alter the fact that Deuters should not have watched clips on social media, but it does mean that the court was misled.
Depp's legal team complained about this and, more significantly in terms of the decision, showed evidence that Barlow had been live tweeting from the courtroom. That is not allowed. As a result, Barlow has been barred from attending the rest of the trial.
Heard's legal team did not exactly cover themselves in glory over this incident. Not only do they appear to have misrepresented Deuters' Instagram post to the court, during the special hearing to hear the complaint about Barlow they said that Barlow is not Heard's friend (she is - most sources describe her as a close friend, some describe her as Heard's girlfriend), she is not a journalist (she is a music journalist) and that she was not in court on the day of the opening statements (she was and was sitting on the front row)
