Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

999 replies

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

I've come to the conclusion that if Boris Johnson had been caught buggering Prince Philip's corpse in St George's chapel, then Tory supporters here would claim that a Labour leader would have done so twice.
Sadly I think you’re right.
Roussette · 12/04/2022 16:52

Bear in mind that we were then actively at war with the Opposing belligerents. To my knowledge we haven't yet declared War on Russia or Belarus

@Peregrina
I find it very distasteful using Ukraine as an excuse. Repellant in fact.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 16:53

It seems they are issuing fines in party groups - first the night before Prince Philip's funeral, now Johnson's cabinet room birthday gathering.
Haven't got to the ABBA night yet it seems.

Should he go? Yes. Will he go? No.

If he does go though it would mean that since conservatives have been in full power, not a single pm has managed to serve the full term and that is a shocking thought.
In 2010, it was a coalition so I’m not counting it.
2015, GE, Tory win and David Cameron is pm. He resigns a year later.
2017, GE, Tory win and Teresa May is pm. She resigns 2 years later.
2019, GE, Tory win and Boris is pm. Does he resign in 2022 or can we actually get a pm to last the full term in office? Or does this just show the sheer incompetency of a Tory government. Food for thought

Roussette · 12/04/2022 16:54

Janiie
I have looked extensively and cannot find cake party mentioned anywhere because even BJ and RS don't know what the fines are attributed to.
And is it only one set of fines?
We don't know and I imagine we won't know till Sue Grey does that ever elusive release of report.

'I've come to the conclusion that if Boris Johnson had been caught buggering Prince Philip's corpse in St George's chapel, then Tory supporters here would claim that a Labour leader would have done so twice.'

What a revolting thing to say.

"I hope they fine Starmer too. Let’s be honest, it wasn’t just Tories breaking the rules they were all at it."

There you are MrsWinters

news.sky.com/story/sir-keir-starmer-in-the-clear-over-claim-he-broke-lockdown-with-office-beer-12535207

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has been cleared of an allegation he e was broke lockdown rules after he was photographed drinking a beer in an office.

Sir Keir was in the City of Durham MP's office, working in the run-up to the Hartlepool by-election in April 2021, when the incident occurred.

At the time of the photo, people in England were banned from mixing indoors apart from for work.

Police have confirmed they do not believe an offence was committed.

"Durham Constabulary has reviewed video footage recorded in Durham on 30 April 2021," a spokesman said.

"We do not believe an offence has been established in relation to the legislation and guidance in place at that time and will therefore take no further action in relation to this matter."

They are indeed reporting that the fines are for the birthday cake party. Obviously, having investigated, the police concluded that rules had been breached on that occasion.

I understand that they are still in the process of issuing fines for some the other parties, so there may well be more to come. Whether we will hear about all of them or not remains to be seen.

@Heythere13

no call for resignation from me

I have emerged from this pandemic with my finances in order due to furlough
My health in order because of care I received from nhs during covid
Double jabbed much earlier than in laws thirty years my senior in another country
And my Children happy and healthy
Oh and I came back from a holiday a fortnight ago having breezed in and out with my covid vaccine cert

So all good here. And I credit that a great deal to Boris and his colleagues

I have seen my partner loose two jobs during the pandemic My mental health in tatters because I cant get help on the NHS Having to decide whether this is the week I have to go to a food bank to feed my child Oh and I have had my benefits cut by close to £700 in the last four months

All bad here and I credit that a great deal to Boris and his colleagues

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 16:57

@TokyoSushi

I reckon Sunak will resign. He's having an awful time anyway (entirely his own doing) and could be of the view that he's so rich, he doesn't need this shit.

So my theory is he resigns, saying if you've got a fine as a Minister, it's a resigning matter. Throws the ball right into Johnson's court, put massive pressure on Johnson, and gets his own back for No 10 briefing against him.

He goes and sets up a jolly lovely life in California, hideous pressure on Johnson and the circus continues...

A very interesting theory!

And will be your stance then?! If BJ/RS was at that one too?

Will it be OK because Abba won the Eurovisions back in the day?!

Alexandra2001 · 12/04/2022 16:58

@JaniieJones

'I do recall you said on several occasions, recently, that you would change you view on BJ if he was ever found guilty.'

Yes of attending a party. Not this.

I thought there'd been a big knees up in the flat or something according to Cummings? Maybe there's more who knows.

But this is a damp squib and we all know it.

mmmmm i think thats called "Moving the Goal posts" so if we found out it was a big knees up, doubtless you would then say "Well it wasn't Ibiza, so a bit of non event"

He broke the law, the laws he made/signed off on, pure and simple or he would not have got a fine.

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 16:59

😂😂😂 People are just writing more and more extreme things. It just makes you sound out of control and silly.

Franklin12 · 12/04/2022 16:59

Janiie - I agree. People are holier than thou when it suits them and make gross comments when they are complaining about something.

The fact is that the Tories are getting away with this (and I am a Tory voter!) because Labour are so weak. If they were a strong opposition with plenty of ideas and things to say the Tories would be shaking in their shoes but they arent so behaviour like this goes unchallenging.

I see the usual suspects - Sturgeon and Blackford telling the PM to resign - again....the thing is saying resign, resign, resign every sodding time something happens they dont agree with dilutes the word.

BreadGenius · 12/04/2022 17:00
@PrettyVacancy
silly whataboutism. Sir Keir Starmer has not been found guilty of breaking the law.
But he's no better than BJ if he's really so stupid as to not know what a woman is. On that basis, he should resign. I hate them both so you're not scoring any points off me I'm afraid.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 17:01

NotontheStairs hey ho... so another possible SIX FPNs for BJ. Good grief.
Once is an aberration and misunderstanding. (not really but that is what it will be couched as)
Six will be a blatant lying breaking of the law

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 17:01

I can’t believe think that a country run by fear of worse politicians is anything to aspire to. We should be calling for better and showing that it means something.

Agree.

The fact so many are just shrugging and saying he should resign but won't and are accepting it shows a much bigger problem imo.

SpinningMeSoftly · 12/04/2022 17:02

This is why I'm so bloody angry at, and disappointed with, Sir Keir Starmer for pandering to the likes of Crispin Blunt MP (Con).

Starmer should have been right on top of this, squeaky clean, and popular.

Instead he's been humming and haaa-ing about basic biological and political facts and looking like a bloody rabbit caught in the headlights; which means he lost a lot of gravitas when calling - rightly - for Johnson and Sunak to go.

They still should go though.

Strange that nobody else has seen it and there are no references to it online.

Almost as if you are making it up.

Franklin12 · 12/04/2022 17:05

There are a lot of disappointed and angry people with Starmer. Should he go? I would love a strong opposition who would take a sweep through the Labour Party. Make them more central. Find a Tony Blair who will appeal to the voters (you know the ones who if they like and believe in you will vote Labour). Oh no wait - I dont want to be in power!

Femalewoman · 12/04/2022 17:05

He should but he won't. He'll wriggle around and then wait for another story to come and take heat off him.

Rushi and wife loaded and yet morally decided not to pay tax on income and say Non Dom even thought living here - the loophole should be closed but hey ho the rich mates need something to allow them to hoard their millions whilst people in this country struggle or people in India starve.

People will keep on voting for them with the same apathy over and over again. They will continue to spout the 'it's better than the opposition' although of course they don't know that since the Tory party have been in power for 11/12 years. Others will spout the problems are due to the previous government/flying spacemen or a variety of odds and sods and still put their X in the 'rich and so out of touch with the normal income family etc person on the street - Boris and Rushi' box.

Suck up what the government do since lots keep on voting for more of the same.

Viviennemary · 12/04/2022 17:07

I think he'll resign soon. Probably had enough anyway. At least he won't be replaced by that chancer Sunak. Who I used to like. Just shows how you can be deceived by people. Thank goodness for a free press.

Totally this.

What a uttershit show uk politics is, when there is a debate to be had as to whether a PM who knowingly broke the law is fit to remain in office.
