Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

@Tontostitis

Nope he's still the best of a very bad bunch
Well that is the most despairing thing I have heard in a very long time....he is the best?????!!!!!

He will only be got rid of if constituents spell it out to Tory MPs that they are wasting their time on the doorstep as they will get short shrift. That is the only thing that will spur them into action - self interest.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 16:36

The "No obvious successor" really is a red herring - once MP's start chucking their hat in to the ring and talking to members and donors(!) a successor tends to make their presence known.

If I was a betting person I'd go with Wallace. Let's see who the Telegraph and the Mail give decent coverage too over the next few days - I'm sure they have somebody in mind.

We replaced PM's in 1916 and 1940 and in those instances we were at war.
Or maybe you don't believe Truss and Wallace can do their jobs - in which case why are they there?

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 16:36

@ancientgran. Figures were higher in Sotland than any region in England. And they are still are higher than any English region. Scotland is 730 per 100k and SW England, with the highest rate in England is at 500. Scotland figures went up at the same time as England's but higher. Sorry, I thought that would make you feel better about masks being dropped, but obviously not.

Labour voter here.

Boris unfortunately will stick to his role like burnt scrambled eggs to a saucepan.

wakeupandshakeup · 12/04/2022 16:38

Tory voter, we now have Putin to sort out.. is sir K up to the job 🥴 nah! They've been fined let's deal with the big sh*t

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 12/04/2022 16:39

Whether it was a party or just a gathering with cake or a quick drink to unwind after a long day not saving lives is utterly irrelevant. It was against the law and they knew it but didn't care. That's why he has to go. Not because he ate cake, but because he has no respect whatsoever for the laws all the rest of us have to follow. And the blatant lying, taking everyone for mugs.

Sistanotcista · 12/04/2022 16:39

I was living abroad at the last election, so didn’t vote. I would have voted Tory though, as I think Jeremy Corbyn (the alternative choice at the time) is a mad man. I do think that Boris and his out of touch Chancellor should both leave. They’ve repeatedly lied to parliament and the British public, and have repeatedly asked the public to do things they have no intention of doing themselves (observe lockdown rules and pay taxes).

I don’t know who I would vote for if there was an election tomorrow. I admire Keir Starmer, and he strikes me as a man of vision and integrity. But I’m deeply uncomfortable with the Labour Party’s stance on men identifying as women. That doesn’t mean I would vote for more years of Tory “do as I say, not as I do” and taxes though. I just don’t know.

expect them to deliver a functioning economy

Well increasing millions will seemingly never be to afford their own home and an increasing number are having to rely on public charity to eat. Seems they’re not doing too well on that front either.
They’re bot miracle makers

They can’t revolutionise the world economy

DoorWasAJar · 12/04/2022 16:40

@Cornettoninja The British have very low self esteem, are extremely docile, propagandised and submissive. I reckon abusive parenting does this first, so when the government abuses them like parents did, they subconsciously ‘like’ it and feel this is what they deserve, because it’s familiar to them.

wakeupandshakeup · 12/04/2022 16:40

@Polyputthekettleon

Starmer is that you? AGAIN?🙄
🤣🤣🤣
Tillerman · 12/04/2022 16:41

Not a Tory but if I were I’d be absolutely mortified by Boris and would want him out, he’s an embarrassment. Probably won’t go though, he’s like a cockroach.

hattie43 · 12/04/2022 16:42

Indeed. Who on Earth could replace the most incompetent Prime Minister ever? At a time of national economic crisis it would be absolute madness to get rid of the incompetent fool running the country.
Well whose your suggestion then ?

Notinthemoodforthis · 12/04/2022 16:42

I don’t think he’s had it very easy, with brexit, covid and now the war in Ukraine. If you want him to suffer let him stay where he is a bit more, I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes for a second. It’s a shit gig if I’m honest.

oakleaffy · 12/04/2022 16:42

Of course he and the rest of the Tories won’t go!
Rules are only made for plebs, not for the Rule makers.

Seriously. Ugh. Is that the best you've got? 😂😂😂

WHAT A UTTERLY DAFT THING TO SAY!

Peregrina · 12/04/2022 16:45

I'm sick of hearing, he can't go because of Ukraine.

Asquith was replaced as PM during WW1
Chamberlain was replaced as PM during WW2
Thatcher was replaced as PM during Gulf War.

Bear in mind that we were then actively at war with the Opposing belligerents. To my knowledge we haven't yet declared War on Russia or Belarus.

lightisnotwhite · 12/04/2022 16:45

I don’t, but I wish he would sometimes.

Who er comes next is going to blame the Tories for all the woes for bloody years. I remember Thatchers Britain being rolled out as an excuse when clearly it really just needed a leader to just do something.

The good thing about Mr Johnson is that he can simultaneously be the fall guy whilst just cracking on. It’s why he can tell you what a woman is without having to worry; he’s offending someone all the time so it matters not.

andi62 · 12/04/2022 16:46

Best of a bad bunch?? Oh that's ok then, continue breaking the laws Mr Johnson, you're apparently irreplaceable. What a farce and a disgrace, all those people who died with no one there, buried with no one there, families, friends, even boyfriends and girlfriends, denied access to each other, no touching, no hugging, no snogging, sex with a mask on, don't do missionary, unless you're Hancock. All merely collateral damage??

Best not mention the poverty, destitution, malnutrition, homelessness. The wasted billions, via the covid VIP channels...could write a book, best of a bad bunch you say??? Johnson is god, oh worship this funny man hero, ours lives are so great, we're not being bombed (yet) and can afford to turn a light on, now and then. ffs

NoWordForFluffy · 12/04/2022 16:46

@GottaLoveTheCold

I don’t know a single person, not one, who stuck 100% to lockdown rules. I said this to someone who said “I did!” And I could give her 2 examples off the top of my head of where she didn’t. My next door neighbour is a police officer and he had a massive Christmas party during lockdown. I just don’t care about people working their guts out in an office, having a glass of wine after work to celebrate something. They weren’t upping anyone’s risk!

I don’t even think he should have been fined. Most people have not had to pay their FPMs. I want him to sort out the NHS, make additional rate tax higher and windfall tax any French owned energy firms.

Did the people who you know who broke the law actually create that law and were on TV almost every night imploring us to stick to the rules? No, thought not. Did they also tell Parliament that they hadn't attended any parties / broken the law? No, thought not. That is the difference between people you know breaking the law and the Prime Minister and Chancellor of this country so-doing.
Gufo · 12/04/2022 16:48

He won't go - but of course he should.

tinytemper66 · 12/04/2022 16:48

He should but as this is a government with no morals or gravitas, he will cling on mooting Ukraine as a reason for staying.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 16:51

'How come you know more than Johnson and Sunak's spokespeople because this is 25 minutes ago. I'll repeat it'

"Spokespeople for the Johnsons and Mr Sunak said they had not been told which event the fines were linked to"

'???? Drop the cake defence please, it makes you look daft.'

Well maybe Sky have made a mistake but the screen info was saying fpns issued to both for June birthday in the Cabinet office. With cake - sorry if it makes me look daft, I agree though it is daft.

This is what they are banking on. Steadily, step by step undermining our democracy IS "big shit" - they are hoping that we will not notice.
andi62 · 12/04/2022 16:52

Just wondering as well, who gets the 10 grand fines, for organising each party?
