Next time I go to France I'm wearing a headscarf

And I want every woman of faith (any faith) or no faith to do the same if that fucker wins Angry

(Marine le Bastard is saying women are not allowed to wear head scarves in France and that they will be fined)

@SausagePourHomme what about the people who choose to wear the hijab solely due to their religion....why is OK for woman to wear whatever they want but when it comes to wearing a hijab it's a fetish or seen as oppressing. Surely oppresions works both ways. And forcing someone to not wear one is a form of oppression.

Cherrysoup · 07/04/2022 19:58

But the irony is that children aren’t allowed to wear any signs of any faith in state schools already, no headscarves, no crucifixes, no Star of David. This is the next step in Le Pen’s racist narrative. She might have been better banning full face coverings.

She’ll never win, the French public won’t go for her although she looks strong in the first round. She’s been here before.

Alexandra2001 · 07/04/2022 19:58

Le Pen is far right but her policies aren't that extreme in context, i ve looked at RN and compared with party manifesto's in the UK... not huge differences.
I'm sure plenty of voters in UK would back RN.
www.reuters.com/world/europe/far-right-le-pen-cloaks-nationalist-policies-with-social-veneer-2022-04-04/

On NATO, France left NATO in 1966 and only rejoined in 2009.

Wants an alternative to the EU, similar to UK...

Le Pen 's election will be very damaging to Europe, i hope in the 2nd round, Macron picks up more votes.

Alexandra2001 · 07/04/2022 20:00

@Cherrysoup Hope you re right but i 'm not so sure this time round.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2022 20:00

Much better to not go to France at all. Dont give them your Euros and see their economy fail. That will teach them more than wearing a headscarf surely. Or become a French citizen so you can vote in the "correct" person. I am sure the French will thank you for your sacrifice.

@godmum56

I wonder what they do about Nuns and private schools?
I too was wondering if the law applied to nuns too
LoveSpringDaffs · 07/04/2022 20:00

@NeedAHoliday2021

She’s also pro Russia and anti NATO so that would be interesting (terrifying).

@NeedAHoliday2021

I think this is a tad more important than headscarves!!

Gwenhwyfar · 07/04/2022 20:01

"Any religion that only requires women (and not men - because it's never men's bodies that are shameful and disgusting, is it?) to cover parts of their bodies in order to be acceptable to their God is misogynistic."

There are religions and cultures (including Islam) that require men to cover parts of their bodies.
In any case, you are entitled to your opinion, but it's something else to make headscarves illegal isn't it? Why not campaign against them while they remain legal?
I think high heels are patriarchal and harmful, but that doesn't mean they should be illegal.

Foreignmumof2 · 07/04/2022 20:01

@Swayingpalmtrees

You are missing the bigger picture laurie with respect, France are trying to liberate women in the sense that many DO NOT have the choice not to wear them. They are forced to by their family and by their husbands. It is a strong line, but it is one they have chosen.
Majority of Muslim women choose to wear it themselves, as it is something our faith tells us to do.

Also France has banned halal and kosher meat, so it has nothing to do with liberating women and everything to do with secularism, which is their choice I suppose.

But if that is the stance they want to take, I personally don’t see how the French would be any different than the countries that reinforce covering up. Different sides of the same coin.

She won't win.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2022 20:02

Mewski

Just to be clear she's not just talking about the burka, she's talking about a headscarf

Wish the Queen would stay alive long enough to visit wearing her favourite one Grin

I would be 100% behind her if banning the scarves came from a place of fighting the oppression of Muslim women by the men in their society who are the real instigators of forcing them to wear the scarfs. But she is coming from a position of wanting to ban them for reasons of religion. .

This is true.
Cherrysoup · 07/04/2022 20:04

@LaurieFairyCake

And she is very obviously going to come after Jewish women too

What with her being fascist

I have no idea how you’ve come up with that? She’s popular because of some extreme actions by Muslim fanatics on the Bataclan, the Bastille day attack in Nice, the parent who beheaded the teacher who’d made fun of Mohamed etc. I’m failing to see the anti-Semitic connection you’re trying to claim.

Thank you @HomeHomeInTheRange and @JellybeansJelly
I had 3 small kids at the time but only the oldest remembers. I was early 30s. Until that point I had never experienced any racist or negative behaviour for my religious beliefs -so I am considered unusual and lucky.

Cherrysoup · 07/04/2022 20:08

@godmum56

Private schools dictate their own uniform rules.

I don't think it's something else to make headscarves illegal.

I'm sure Marine Le Pen doesn't really give a damn about women's rights and that's not what this is about for her.

But the reality is, too much bleeding heart liberalism has allowed religions to get away with bloody murder for far too long.

People are of course entitled to believe what they like. But where those beliefs cross into dictating how others should behave in a way that limits their freedoms, then I don't think it's wrong to have legislation against it.

Religions that dictate that women wear headscarves teach that women are dirty and shameful. Teachings such as this should be illegal.

Religions aren't real. Their made up practices that harm other people (mostly women) should have no protection under the law.

Guineapigssweak · 07/04/2022 20:09

Shame other countries don't follow France. Women should never be forced to wear burkas and head scarfs all for a so called religion and to please the men of the religion.
