And I want every woman of faith (any faith) or no faith to do the same if that fucker wins Angry

(Marine le Bastard is saying women are not allowed to wear head scarves in France and that they will be fined)

Are you calling Islam evil?

Lesperance · 07/04/2022 19:41

@LaurieFairyCake

Swayingpalmtrees

That fascist is not trying to LIBERATE anyone, she's trying to exclude Muslims from France - this is a policy born in racism and hatred

I disagree with women being FORCED to wear headscarves (and of course some women are forced to) but telling them they're not allowed to is HORRIFIC

There is a world of grey area between fascism/racism and the desire to empower women

I am not in anyway saying that I agree with her. I think women should be free to do what they want. However, I wonder how well you know France, @LaurieFairyCake ? Most Muslim women in France do not wear a headscarf. Many of them are of North African extraction where it's not a tradition to wear a headscarf in any case. I don't feel like it is the massive issue that you seem to think it is for most Muslims in France.

Oh that makes Islamophobia ok does it? Stupidest argument people use to justify their extremism.

"Many of them are of North African extraction where it's not a tradition to wear a headscarf in any case."

What? We have a massive Moroccan population where I live and many of them wear headscarves. Granted, not all, and maybe not a majority, but quite a few. I don't know about actual Morocco, but devout Muslims of Moroccan origin living here definitely do.
I think the headscarf is definitely an issue in France for some of the non-muslim population. I live in Belgium where full face covering niqab and burkas are illegal as they are in France and there are often discussions here about whether headscarves should be allowed for public sector employees.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 07/04/2022 19:45

My aunt has bequeathed me her collection of genuine vintage Hermes scarves. French through and through. AIBU to consider sending them to a French Muslim Women’s group? Even though some are a bit frayed round them edges?

Seriously: if that woman gets in I will not be setting foot on French soil with or without a head covering. I do my best not to support racist fascists or democratic populations who vote for them.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 07/04/2022 19:45

She’s also pro Russia and anti NATO so that would be interesting (terrifying).

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2022 19:46

Um I obviously know Islam isn't a race

It can still be racist .... what with her being a white supremacist and hating brown people

Obviously a lot of Islamophobia is linked to it being practised more by people from non white countries

That is an issue, if she still holds this position
awaynboilyurheid · 07/04/2022 19:48

I hate Le Penn with a vengeance but also I cannot stand that woman must cover themselves up because the sight of their hair might drive men mad. I also disagree with woman shaving their hair and wearing wigs in the devout Jewish faith too. Meanwhile men can wear what they want, and use excuse it’s because of religion, which lets face it is just your imaginary man v’s my imaginary man.

Men swan about in shorts t shirt trailing behind is the woman in a burkha, how awful is that and please don’t think it’s their choice, when their “choice” is dictated to them and funnily enough they never say oh it was my wife’s choice to not wear it and I’m happy with that!

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2022 19:48

And she is very obviously going to come after Jewish women too

What with her being fascist

OP posts:
Mewski · 07/04/2022 19:48

And why exactly do women wear à hijab / burka ?

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 07/04/2022 19:49

Muslim women will just stay in the house. The route to freedom is not further oppression.

LowlandLucky · 07/04/2022 19:49

Their country their rules, if you don't like it don't visit.

JellybeansJelly · 07/04/2022 19:50

She really won’t. It’s Islam that is seen as fair game by many politicians, including our very own PM. They won’t take the same approach with Judaism.
Pamlar · 07/04/2022 19:51

(I hope) I will never go to France again after I was ordered to remove my head covering and then escorted to the airport police station while my kids screamed for me.
It was horrendous and so unnecessary and so humiliating. I eventually took it off in the police station bc they took away my passport and I wanted to just get it over with.
I am still upset about it 12 years on

IVflytrap · 07/04/2022 19:51

Guess the Queen won't be able to visit France then, seeing as she's been known to don a headscarf on occasion. Confused I'm in my mid 30s and can just about remember a time when it was common for older white women to wear headscarves out and about. Funny how it's suddenly unacceptable when it's mostly non-white women doing it.

I can't stand this idea that governments should be able to interfere with what women wear or don't wear, whether it's insisting women must wear X or mustn't wear Y. They are rarely ever so fixated on men and their garments. I wonder why that might be.

Lesperance · 07/04/2022 19:51

I'm not sure Belgium and Moroccans are really relevant @Gwenhwyfar
Most French Muslim women do not wear a headscarf. There have been studies.

Pamlar · 07/04/2022 19:52

@LaurieFairyCake I am an orthodox Jew

EnidSpyton · 07/04/2022 19:54

I don't have a problem with this.

Any religion that only requires women (and not men - because it's never men's bodies that are shameful and disgusting, is it?) to cover parts of their bodies in order to be acceptable to their God is misogynistic.

Should we be supporting misogyny in 2022?

Marine Le Pen is racist and fascist, so that's a different issue entirely. And she won't get in.

But the reality is - religions that force women to cover themselves and view their bodies as objects of shame are oppressive and misogynistic and should be challenged about their treatment of women with the full force of the law. Religions are all man (and I mean man) -made nonsense and our kowtowing to them in the name of liberalism while they oppress and abuse women is disgusting.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 07/04/2022 19:56

@Pamlar that is horrific. Your poor children. FFS. What is wrong with people?

I never said that most do, but the poster said North African women don't wear headscarves, which I questioned.

Precisely. As much as Le Penn is a nazi, the burka is a very complex and contentious issue.

Women are executed for not adhering to Islamic law. Women flee Islamic countries to have the freedoms we take for granted . The 'freedom' to wear what you want is not a fashion show.

France has a very real issue with fascist Muslim communities.

Le Penn is a threat to women's freedoms , as much as the fundamentalist Islamic groups.
