And I want every woman of faith (any faith) or no faith to do the same if that fucker wins Angry

(Marine le Bastard is saying women are not allowed to wear head scarves in France and that they will be fined)

@MmeMeursault maybe you should take the time to actually read, watch or listen to Zemmour. He is a Magrebien Jew, born in Algeria, so actually has some experience of the things he talks about.
Regardless, Marine Le Pen has shown she has a heart this time round, she connects better to the electorate than Zemmour. The arrogant, narcissistic, elitist Macron has lost points on this front.

NoraLuka · 08/04/2022 21:24

Zemmour is nuts. He wants anyone who has a foreign name to change it to a "French" one. I think he's prob doing this presidential candidate thing for publicity, then he can write a book about it later. He'd shit himself if he found himself in charge of the country.

luckylavender · 08/04/2022 21:25

@Swayingpalmtrees

I thought we supported women leading major nations? I am sure in reality she won't be anywhere near as controversial as she says she will be, and Macron is a slimy weasel - I would do almost anything to see him turfed out.
She's a Le Pen. However slimey Macron is, the whole world would be better without her leadership.
luckylavender · 08/04/2022 21:28

@tara66

I read she also has photo of herself with Putin on some of her pamphlets.
She did but she's pulped them all

Lol you only talk about the headlines in msm. Maybe try actually listening or watching what is said in reality and the reasons why (if indeed you are capable of understanding).
cavalatete · 08/04/2022 21:30

I'm interested as to how this will impact nuns. Or is she suggesting the fines are at police discretion so they'll leave the nuns be?

I know it's been n place for a while, but not in general public and not fined on the spot.

Not a Macron fan but what we really don't need now is Le Pen, friend of Putin, heading up France.

samthebordercollie · 08/04/2022 21:32

@luckylavender so Macron, Merkel and the rest of Europe aren't guilty of being friendly with Putin? Not to mention Boris Johnson and Brexit?

Haha thanks for the tip but it's actually part of my job to know what's going on in French politics, so I know all about Z, his background and his rabble-rousing antics.

Just because he's Jewish himself doesn't make it acceptable to deny the Holocaust or the French role in it, which is the most recent thing he's been charged with.

contrelamontre · 08/04/2022 21:41

She'll say the same as Zenmour - no veil, no kippa, but...les bonnes sœurs sont des professionnelles de la religion, ce ne sont pas des gens comme les autres

luckylavender · 08/04/2022 21:43

That's a very fair point but I don't think any of them would go so far as to put a picture of him on their manifesto. She's puloed thousands of copies. Johnson has gone out of his way to distance himself.

NoraLuka · 08/04/2022 21:44

@samthebordercollie I don't need to read any headlines at all to know about the names thing, he's said it himself several times when being interviewed.

HRTQueen · 08/04/2022 23:22

And you don’t think Macron will pick this up

France already have laws being passed that are co concerning for many Muslims in France

Penn won’t win but she received nearly a third of votes last time.

Maybe just not go there

ohleboulot · 09/04/2022 02:18

I too remember 2002. Whatever I think of Chirac - I have so much respect for him refusing to debate Le Pen Père. I'm starting to feel really upset that yet again le front national/rassemblement national is in all probability going to make it to the second round. How far we've come and not in a good way.

@NoraLuka
Did you see this website to change your name if zemmour wins? ( a spoof but a good one)

www.vitemonprenom.com

AuxArmesCitoyens · 09/04/2022 06:53

MLP's party is in huge financial hock to Russia and now Orban's Hungary. I'm not a Macron fan but he has done some good stuff. And Zemmour did say giving your kids non-French names was a sign of non assimilation. And that Vichy saved Jews during the Holocaust.

bumblingbovine49 · 09/04/2022 07:21

@Swayingpalmtrees

You are missing the bigger picture laurie with respect, France are trying to liberate women in the sense that many DO NOT have the choice not to wear them. They are forced to by their family and by their husbands. It is a strong line, but it is one they have chosen.
I am sorry but nobody is liberated by being forced into doing or not doing something .

I'm not one who believes in individual liberty at all costs ( in fact my DS thinks I'm an authoritarian Hmm) so I understand the rationale of fighting family and religious pressure on women to wear a head or face cover when they don't want to.

However on balance I don't think banning this in public is ok , it tips the balance of individual rights Vs the greater good for me . Lots of Muslim women choose to wear a veil because they want to and they should be allowed to . I can see an argument for banning young girls/ children from wearing them as personal choice us a bit more opaque there and I do think forcing young female children to wear one is not ok but once a woman is an adult, she should be allowed to choose what she wears

Suretobe · 09/04/2022 07:40

@samthebordercollie

Zemmour is by far the most interesting candidate. He is incredibly well read, incredibly intelligent and his meetings are massive attendance wise. But... too extreme. Which has played to the favour of Le Pen as compared to him she's moderate. Also she lost a lot of her support, including her niece to Zemmour and she carried on regardless. She has some good young people around her, like Jordan Bardella. She is far more votable in 2022 than she was in 2017. Purchasing power is top of the agenda now, not the headscarf.
If by interesting you mean he’s a fascist then I get what you mean. He and his politics are odious.
Gwenhwyfar · 09/04/2022 17:44

"Two polls from Politico now put Le Pen ahead."

In Round 1 presumably. If Round 2 is her against Macron, she won't win.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 09/04/2022 18:23

No, in round 2. It's a lot closer than it ever has been before, largely because Zemmour has placed himself even further to the right and made MLP look more reasonable.

One of my twitter friends is freaking out about the possibility of an MLP - JLM run off. That would be a turn up for the books.

NoraLuka · 09/04/2022 18:45

@ohleboulot Grin the DDs showed me that because apparently someone at school told them they'd have to change their names (said person would also have to, they weren't being nasty or anything)! Madness.

I think the poll results are so close now they are within the margin of error, aren't they?

A poster above (not even sure they were on this thread actually, there's another one) said that all the French people they know say they wouldn't vote for MLP and so who is voting for her? I do know people who would vote for her - rural area, people who feel kind of left behind by the rest of the world, and who feel that Macron is over there in Paris helping his rich friends.

JLM vs MLP in the second round Shock we'd def end up with MLP as President then I think. I like JLM but I've seen loads of interviews where he sounds great, sensible, with well thought out policies and then he says something that ruins it. A journalist said something like "We have lots of companies making money in this country, what do you..." and he interupted to say, "We'll take the money off them!" and wouldn't let the journalist get a word in while he went on along those lines. Hmm

AuxArmesCitoyens · 09/04/2022 18:51

I'd vote Jadot or Roussel, but il faut essayer de faire barrage.

Cherrysoup · 09/04/2022 20:22

Very interesting link from CND-Cerveaux non disponibles. Sorry, it’s aimed at those living in France/ex-pat french natives/French speakers.

FloBot7 · 09/04/2022 20:36

When I lived in France over 10 years ago MLP was called a pit bull. Have they been using expats in the polls predicting her win? IIRC from what my French friends told me, an expat can vote in the elections regardless of how long it's been since they left the country (my ex had a French friend who had lived in Norway for 20 years and was voting from there). Sadly it meant someone from the Ivory Coast who might have moved to France when they were 3 could never be allowed to vote. My info might be out of date though.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/04/2022 22:56

Yes, the name thing was to get publicity wasn't it. He can't be serious about it.
Gwenhwyfar · 09/04/2022 22:59

"someone from the Ivory Coast who might have moved to France when they were 3 could never be allowed to vote. "

Surely they can when they get citizenship?

Fawful · 10/04/2022 00:31

As a French person I am definitely wearing a headscarf next time I'm going to France. I have worried that it could be cultural appropriation, but then my own grandmother as a Christian wore a scarf, as do plenty of Ukrainian older women that I see in the news.
Will be voting Macron, though I haven't liked his flirting with Islamophobia on occasions, but Le Pen is obviously a lot worse. God help us if she wins, truly.
