I don't know how to tag my last thread. Having people from Ukraine staying.
Ours guests arrived yesterday afternoon. 2 mums (sisters) with a toddler each.

The reason I'm crying is this afternoon a delivery was made by someone in our area
of a toddler sized slide and a swing. Some gift cards and letters were posted through our letter box
welcoming them to our town.
All anonymous. I think it might be people from our street(it's quite a long one) so can't narrow it down.

It must have been fate as we were thinking of putting the house on the market now our children have left home and out Grandchildren don't sleep over now.

And now you have two surrogate grand children, sort of.

OP

Thank you for sharing, I'm another without enough room but willing to help.

ThesecondLEM · 04/04/2022 04:38

What a wonderful thing you have done, I couldn't do it even if I had room, I am thankful for people like you OP

namechangeanonymous · 04/04/2022 07:50

How sweet that fresh air and the sky must have felt to them.
I got teary eyed then too.
I hope you all manage to have a positive experience.

FreeefireRegina · 04/04/2022 09:13

Thank you for the uplifting post OP. We decided like you to offer help to a Ukrainian refugee and are awaiting for the visa to come through. The process is not kind and to see the kindness and happiness in your post makes the wait and frustration worthwhile. I hope your guests settle well.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/04/2022 09:18

If anybody can’t house a refugee but wants to help, as well as donating to refugee organisations that are helping people in the countries closer to Ukraine can I ask you to help put pressure on your MPs to try to get the scheme sorted out so the thousands of Ukrainians who applied over a fortnight ago but don’t yet have their visas can also come? Most of the people who applied to the UK scheme are still stuck in limbo with no indication as to when they will be allowed to travel. Sorry to bring negativity to a feel good thread but op’s guests have been exceptionally lucky.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/04/2022 09:19

Lucky with their experience of the scheme obviously, not lucky to be in this situation in the first place…

Fluff3 · 04/04/2022 17:39

How lovely and good for you for taking in these families in their time of need. I hope it all works out for you

unfortunateevents · 04/04/2022 17:57

Could somebody on here who is preparing to host refugees please tell me how you matched with your guests? DH and I registered on the first day but have heard nothing from anyone - not even re DBS checks etc. Like most people we don't know any Ukrainians so can't work with anyone directly and Google doesn't help me with any local organisations who are helping. I fear that if we wait for the powers-that-be to help we could be waiting a long time! I know there are some FB groups where families are posting and looking for matches but that doesn't feel particularly safe for either side.

beattieedny · 04/04/2022 17:58

Oh, this is so heartwarming. You are good people to do this. God bless you and your guests.

cardiologist349275 · 04/04/2022 18:07

My neighbour took in a refugee from Yemen and I was similarly moved. It's so heartwarming isn't it!

LovelyIssues · 04/04/2022 18:09

This is one of the best threads I've ever read on here Flowers

bpirockin · 04/04/2022 18:19

Absolutely love this heart-warming post, it's a truly uplifting reminder of there being so many good people out there when we tend to hear a lot of negativity. Perhaps there is some hope for humanity after all. Life-changing stuff in so many ways.

Jj987 · 04/04/2022 18:19

You are such a kind person. 💐

January73 · 04/04/2022 18:21

Pinzotti · 04/04/2022 18:27

How are they? I hope their experiences have not scared them

Pinzotti · 04/04/2022 18:28

2018SoFarSoGreat · 04/04/2022 18:29

thank you for sharing this, OP. There is hope and love in this world, and you are displaying both in spades.

Shiloh139 · 04/04/2022 18:36

That is truly lovely - of both you and your DH and whoever bought the play things. Thank you for posting this and making us all smile.

tearinghairout · 04/04/2022 18:43

What a lovely thing to read. I am crying too.
