I don't know how to tag my last thread. Having people from Ukraine staying.
Ours guests arrived yesterday afternoon. 2 mums (sisters) with a toddler each.

The reason I'm crying is this afternoon a delivery was made by someone in our area
of a toddler sized slide and a swing. Some gift cards and letters were posted through our letter box
welcoming them to our town.
All anonymous. I think it might be people from our street(it's quite a long one) so can't narrow it down.

Madrenetterhere · 03/04/2022 19:40

Love this!!!

LoveSpringDaffs · 03/04/2022 19:43

How lovely fir them to feel welcome in your community as well as in your home. They must be feeling so scared & nervous, I'm glad they have each other too & the children their cousins.

I hope it all works out well for all of you, it's off to a good start!!

KellsBells77 · 03/04/2022 19:46

Lovely gesture that.

It’s been horrific seeing the scenes from Ukraine (the latest being the Jeremy Bowen piece for the BBC on the murdered Ukrainian couple in their car) so it’s nice to get some heartening news like this.

Lisajane47 · 03/04/2022 19:47

So lovley , I hope it works out for you.

crackersforcheese · 03/04/2022 19:47

I have tears too! How lovely of your neighbours ❤️ and how lovely of you to have welcomed them into your home ❤️

Caramac555 · 03/04/2022 19:48

Great gift choice, I think playing outside as children do will be great for the kids and also their mother's to see.

toomuchlaundry · 03/04/2022 19:52

@JudgeJ check out local Facebook groups, many community groups have been set up to co-ordinate help for refugees in their community

bossybloss · 03/04/2022 19:53

I also have tears in my eyes.

What a truly wonderful thing to do.What you have done will affirm to them that there are good people in the world. You are providing a haven of safety and relative normality.

Thank you x

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 03/04/2022 19:54

This feels very special to read, thank you for sharing.

Yesterday our first grandchild was born. It is wonderful, but it feels a bleak and desolate time to welcome a precious baby into the world. Your thread has reminded me that for every murderous, megalomaniac bar steward in the world, there are millions of decent, kind "normal" people who just want to try and do their best and help their fellow man.

Thank you for sharing and God bless you all. 💕

Hope

That's so lovely. I wish we had the space to do the same.

I'm volunteering with my church to get welcome packs out to hosting families in our area, there are far more than I thought there would be. Just goes to show people are lovely really.

MrsHugget · 03/04/2022 19:57

This has given me a mental slap after wallowing in first world problems tonight and is lovely to read. Of course I wish it didn't need to happen but am so pleased you're doing such a wonderful thing.
I'm not aware of anyone locally doing it and where to look but would like to offer practical help / stuff if I can.

MurmuratingStarling · 03/04/2022 20:01

Awww, say hello from me! Grin

Hope they settle, and are OK! Flowers

thepastisanothercountry · 03/04/2022 20:05

that's wonderful OP.

When did you apply? our 3 applications went in on the 19th and still nothing and the confirmation they've gone in. Getting really worried now so have now written to our MP.

So happy to hear that people are finally arriving though. What was the first thing they wanted? Our potential guests are in a refugee camp in Warsaw everytime I hear from them the main thing they say they'd like is clean knickers and a quiet place to sleep - kind of puts things in prespective. (Oh and they'd quite like some visas too!!)

LaQuern · 03/04/2022 20:07

Wonderful to read, hope it all goes well for you all

IvorCutler · 03/04/2022 20:09

Beautiful ❤️ I hope they are ok (as ok as they can be under the circumstances).

Wam90 · 03/04/2022 20:16

You’re so incredible 🥺

Horsemad · 03/04/2022 20:21

So heartwarming. Really puts things in perspective. Thank you OP. ♥️

SeasonFinale · 03/04/2022 20:22

We are hosting an 18 year old Ukrainian and being Cambridge based someone has donated a lovely bike for them to use. People are helping in whatever way they can and it is great.

Hyenaormeercat · 03/04/2022 20:23

Something is in my eye too...

It does give you hope doesn't it.

Mandyjack · 03/04/2022 20:26

Glad to hear some are finally getting visas and getting to their sponsor homes. Did you volunteer for the Homes For Ukraine Scheme?

Libertybear80 · 03/04/2022 20:28

There can be no better feeling can there? ❤️

AlaskaFound · 03/04/2022 20:33

That’s wonderful. ❤️
