If you've not got a Smart Meter.

And are on the Price Cap rate - as rates go up on 1st April and you want to ensure that your supplier knows how much of your energy was used before and after the price cap changes.

I am sure it will be trending on Twitter tomorrow. #meterreadingday

I have a Smart Meter so don't think i need to do it.

I did submit a reading a week ago but I'll have another go today, maybe towards 11.30pm if I'm up. (I presume it's up till midnight?)

CrunchyCarrot · 31/03/2022 10:14

Octopus Energy site also having problems. Am trying to submit a meter reading but the site has crashed.

catsoup · 31/03/2022 10:27

The EDF site is down for maintenance but if you get the app then you can submit your reading through that.

I've just tried to get the app and that's says closed for essential maintenance too.

I got an email from Scottish Power last Monday, telling me I needed to send a reading within 7 days. I did this on Monday just passed (28th). Wondering if I should take another tonight or not - can anyone advise?

I got a message back after the Monday reading to tell me that my dd will increase by £40 per month, which isn't great but not as bad as I had feared - and nowhere near as high as the "deals" they've been offering for the past couple of months.

CPL593H · 31/03/2022 10:35

I've just spent 2 hours trying to log in to Eon Next to submit ours. The phone number is just a permanently engaged tone. Frankly, service from Eon before being switched over was always better (and their phone lines are open)

Only thing I could think of to do was send an email detailing the problems and giving the readings, so there's a date stamped record. It may have had a slightly grumpy tone.

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2022 10:35

octopus website down, so unable to enter meter reading, rang the number and told there is a long wait - but press 1 and you can give a better reading on an automatic service

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2022 10:37

send an email detailing the problems and giving the readings,

take a photograph and email the photograph of both meter readings, make sure time and date are left on photograph by screen showing photographs then uploading them - that way they can't quibble on date

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2022 10:38

Give another reading tonight, take photographs as evidence of your meter reading and back this up by emailing the photographs.

Otherwise you could be charged 54% more for the electric and gas from the 28th to the 31st

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2022 10:40

@CrunchyCarrot use the phone number and you can submit the reading by telephone on an automatic service - listen to the options they give and press 1

There's only the option to press 0 if you're wanting to switch to Octopus, or else just hold the line - at which point an annoying music track starts. Anything else I try I get cut off.

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2022 10:48

08081641088 was the number I just used and gave my reading on an automatic service

CrunchyCarrot · 31/03/2022 10:51

Panic over! Meter readings went through online after several failed attempts. Whew.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 31/03/2022 10:55

Shell site and app both crashed!

GertrudeKerfuffle · 31/03/2022 10:57

This is probably a stupid question, but we are on a fixed rate deal until later in the year, so there is no point in me doing a meter read today - is there?

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 31/03/2022 10:57

The automated phone line is not working either!

Actually we are the same, wonder if we should bother now?

No its really only for those on the standard variable rate as its thos prices that are rising. Fixed rates won't be affected until the end of the fixed term
Mamawarrior · 31/03/2022 11:03

Hey all

I have a top up meter outside house....what do I need to do?

IsadoraQuagmire · 31/03/2022 11:07

Is it still worth submitting readings if you're on a fixed tariff, or totally pointless?! I have taken readings, tries to get onto EDF, but of course they're down. I have to go out all afternoon, wondering whether it's worth trying to do it later, or a waste of time!

GertrudeKerfuffle · 31/03/2022 11:12

Thank you @dementedpixie

Good luck all.

Yes it would be pointless if you're on a fixed tariff as your rates won't change tomorrow
Usingit · 31/03/2022 11:15

Martin Lewis just said only people on the price cap need to do readings not fixed rate as there is no change in price

IsadoraQuagmire · 31/03/2022 11:23

Thankyou dementedpixie and Usingit I know that's logical, but I'm finding the whole thing a bit overwhelming!Shock
