Should Will loose his Oscar?

SpringHasSprungYay · 29/03/2022 20:30

Should we forgive him because it's out of character?

Has his mental heslth taken a turn for the worse because of Jada's infidelity & narcissism?

Is it really never ok to mention a black woman's hair?

Can words really be the same as violence?

So many issues to unpick here!

I don't think it was staged, due to him screaming swears after from his seat.

But I think it could impact his career a bit.

Happy fun loving Will's masked slipped.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/03/2022 21:15

@Infinitemoon

OK can somebody please explain 'the hoax' please? Is it to raise their profiles? TBH I had no idea who JPS was before this outburst.
Viewing figures for the Oscar's have plummeted in recent years. Controversy has helped the Golden Globes.
SpringHasSprungYay · 29/03/2022 21:16

@MrsTerryPratchett

Why would it be staged? Honestly I have read so many people say this now, but no one is explaining WHY?

I've seen a LOT of physical confrontations. A LOT. Through work. I also did martial arts. Fights are messy and don't look like that did. One very dramatic slap? It didn't look real. Chris recovered much too quickly after. Adrenalin makes you sweaty and shaky and makes you behave in certain ways.

I'm really quite good at spotting a liar.

Everyone is talking about the Oscars... which they weren't.

I thought it looked like he had realised it was a bad idea on the way up there. But then once he got up there he felt committed. Then maybe he decided to hit him less hard than he had originally intended. Hence the awkwardness & quick recovery by Chris.

I don't know why Will would be willing to make himself look so bad in the eyes of so many fans, just to boost the Oscar ratings.

He wants edgier roles and less fun. Losing his nice guy image might help.

But I really believe this because I know what fights look like. This looked like a film fight not a RL fight.

Wellthisiscrapeh · 29/03/2022 21:22

Also, Will Smith is a big bloke. He could have fucking socked him one and knocked those veneers straight out. Not just slapped him.

Theatrical nonsense. But hey, look how it’s being talked about!

Useranon1 · 29/03/2022 21:29

There's already a long and extensive thread on this, you might get your answers there

SpringHasSprungYay · 29/03/2022 21:32

Ha! I like the point someone made on one of the other threads:

"Dh says that WS wouldn’t have tried that shit if the other Rock (Dwayne Johnson) had said what CR said."

True.

These days I get highly suspicious about any celebrity that seems to want to project a ‘nice guy, good person’ image. There have been too many scandals for me to believe it.

I think celebrities who are happy to have most people think they’re are twat, like Chris Rock are probably more well rounded people, some of them are probably actually twats too of course.

But I think Will should keep his Oscar, somebody paid good money for it.

Infinitemoon · 29/03/2022 21:38

Nothing is real. Most of what you see in the news, things about celebrities, it’s all made up.

To hide things that are really happening, to push agendas. It’s all theatre. That’s why it’s on the news, in the papers.

Nothing like this happens by chance.

Now I really am confused. Confused

TheFlis12345 · 29/03/2022 21:39

“ Is it really never ok to mention a black woman's hair?”

Mentioning their hair is fine. Publicly mocking the fact that they have no hair, due to a traumatic medical condition that they have previously stated the stress of has seriously affected their mental health? Of course that’s not bloody well ok. Would it be ok to joke about her baldness if she was undergoing chemo?

Peppermint81 · 29/03/2022 21:40

Nah let him keep it. Slap was highly entertaining on an otherwise highly boring night

It’s all made up bollocks for entertainment.
Jongy · 29/03/2022 21:44

@MrsTerryPratchett

I 100% think it was staged. I said that to DH.
I don’t know a single person who thinks it wasn’t staged. She shaves her head into a buzz cut, she doesn’t have alopecia.
Should Will loose his Oscar?
HRTQueen · 29/03/2022 21:44

No

Far worse offenders have kept theirs one is a child rapist (who also has the support of much of Hollywood)

He won’t live this down it should have been the greatest night of his career instead it will be remembered for his outburst. I think that enough shame we already know of his marriage woes

AngeloMysterioso · 29/03/2022 21:47

Yes there are awful people who have Oscars. But in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein/#me too business the academy drew up a code of conduct which current academy members agreed to adhere to, and WS has violated it with his behaviour. Present day consequences for present day actions.

HRTQueen · 29/03/2022 21:50

Oh please if they were so bothered they would take Oscars away from previous winners

Fact is many in Hollywood still support Roman Polanski they have still been happy to work with him in recent years

moonbedazzled · 29/03/2022 21:50

I don't think it was a set up. The Academy is investigating and Will Smith has apologised.

I love Wil Smith. I've always thought he was the nicest of guys with so much charisma. But I think he's having a breakdown. Jade has broadcast repeatedly about their marriage and their sex life and her affairs. He even appeared on one show to be questioned by her. Its just weird. Why would such a high profile actor want to broadcast all their personal business like that?

I don't know how I feel about him now, with his smiling, then hitting, then swearing, then crying, then laughing and boasting. But there's no excuse for what he did. I can't understand people applauding him. And worse, if Jada does indeed feel awful about her hair, imagine what it's going to be like for her seeing herself over and over as this gets replayed for the next 20yrs. Meanwhile Chris Rock will be working up a whole show and dvd around this that will rake in millions.

Katya213 · 29/03/2022 22:04

Yes!

ItsDisneyBitch · 29/03/2022 22:59

She does have alopecia it was confirmed on her red table video cast a while ago.

Fernandina · 29/03/2022 23:14

Chris Rock was a disgrace. If he'd said anything as offensive about a family member of mine, on live television and being watched by millions, I suspect I'd have done the same.

Germolenequeen · 29/03/2022 23:46

@Fernandina

Ditto

TargusEasting · 29/03/2022 23:49

He might as well give it back.

Not much point in jumping out of a plane with a parachute if you are never going to jump again.

JamSandwich89 · 29/03/2022 23:57

Nah. Made a mistake. Publicly apologised (directly to CR in the Instagram post). Let's all move on.

MaryAndHerNet · 30/03/2022 00:09

The Screen Actors Guild are investigating. They wouldn't investigate if it wasn't real. If they cancel Will Smith, he can't work in Hollywood on films or TV anymore, of he tried, he'd be categorised as a scab and he'd be hard pressed to ever work again.

It's interesting.

Personally, I think he should be arrested and prosecuted, Chris Rock isnt pressing charges though.

LondonQueen · 30/03/2022 00:19

When there are sex offenders that have an Oscar, I think the Will's altercation is very minor. The whole thing is a load of shit tbf, they should scrap it.
