Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

A small m&s side salad.

I saw someone have this and this alone for their lunch, and imply anything more is greedy.

I suspect competitive undereating*, but do you think this is tiny/normal/lots? I'd be bloody starving 5 minutes later 😂

*Unfortunately I've worked with a few of these in the past and just roll my eyes.

Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

@JungleJimbo

I would be STUFFED after that

Apple is so high in sugar, and there's a high cal dressing so would keep me going til breakfast the next day

Really can't understand how some people eat so much Shock

🤣
KosherDill · 28/03/2022 18:09

I would want some cheese or hard cooked egg on it but otherwise it would be fine. I don't like to focus on food during the work day.

What other people eat is none of my concern, unless i constantly have to hear them moaning about needing to lose weight.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 28/03/2022 18:10

That particular salad is absolutely delicious but not sufficient for a proper lunch, I'd have to have some form of protein alongside it. Or else another couple of portions of the same salad, to fill me up?!

EmpressSuiko · 28/03/2022 18:10

That would be sufficient for me but I only eat two meals a day anyway and a small snack so I know I eat less than a lot of people.

JaneAust · 28/03/2022 18:11

Is the person in question really slim?

EndaDay · 28/03/2022 18:11

It's absolutely fine for lunch. No wonder there is an obesity problem in this country.

If you have a breakfast of 2 slices of buttered toast, an egg and a slice of melon-that's about 400-450 calories.

A banana mid morning-100 calories

that salad for lunch-150 calories

a digestive biscuit mid afternoon-100 calories

that's 800 cals, not including milk or sugar if you take them in drinks. If you do, it could bring it up to 1000.

An evening meal and glass of wine-about 700 calories.

You're getting up to about 1800 calories-ample.

TillyTopper · 28/03/2022 18:13

It's fine - with bread and ham and a yoghurt afterwards! Smile

FreyaMaya · 28/03/2022 18:15

I'd buy that....
with a pack of prepackaged cooked chicken breast slices.
The small salad alone wouldn't fill me up

CottonGoods · 28/03/2022 18:19

I'd be happy with that for lunch. I wouldn't feel the need to tell anyone else, though.

mudgetastic · 28/03/2022 18:19

800 + 700 makes 1500 not 1800

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 28/03/2022 18:20

It’s what my daughter ate when in the grip of anorexia. It’s not a “normal” lunch.

Fizbosshoes · 28/03/2022 18:21

I'm fairly average build bmi 21 but salad wouldn't fill me up for more than about half an hour!

But I know lots of MN would be absolutely appalled at what I eat - no massive (or tiny!) Salads here. I wasted 6 or 7 years of my life having a severe ED and now I am a healthy weight and that definitely wouldn't be enough for me.
From the comments on various threads I think a lot of MN do have ED.

user1471443411 · 28/03/2022 18:21

It definitely wouldn't be enough for me - I don't like salads on their own for lunch anyway unless they come with protein and at least a few carbs. I'd rather eat nothing and just have a milkshake or coffee.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 28/03/2022 18:23

I suppose to be fair it depends on what else is being eaten in the day. My daughter would eat similar for her evening meal too. No snacks. If your associate seems otherwise well then really its fine. No need to broadcast it though. Sometimes I skip lunch entirely. Quite often actually. But if I eat, I eat more than that.

Justanotherobserver · 28/03/2022 18:23

No way that would do for me. My job is very physical and I want calories!

mistyoak · 28/03/2022 18:25

So long as I had a chicken breast / chocolate bar to go with it yes…

This has to be a piss take
LethargeMarg · 28/03/2022 18:26

A lot of people will just have a cup a soup for lunch which is less calories and far less healthy . I need a decent lunch or to graze through day on little bits and pieces I'd be starving eating just that with no other snacks but my mum pretty much just has a dry salad for lunch (eg just leaves so less calories than that) with a bit of homemade brown bread but I'd say has a strange relationship with food

Lastqueenofscotland · 28/03/2022 18:27

Competitive underrating bingo on this thread.

Heifer · 28/03/2022 18:29

I feel as though I'm not the best person to ask ;-)

Hope your comment was intended to be ironic/sarcastic
If it was for real I'd be seriously concerned for your wellbeing

Usingit · 28/03/2022 18:31

Yes but I am a grazer rather than a big meal eater so I would probably have already polished off a load of stuff already by lunchtime.

blueshoes · 28/03/2022 18:31

I don't normally eat lunch at home so that should be sufficient but I snack at 4 pm and have a decent dinner.

If that is a meal, it needs to have some protein and fat in there to not feel hungry soon after. So I would say that is not sufficient. My stomach is growling already just looking at those meagre portions.

tillyandmilly · 28/03/2022 18:31

I would be hungry five minutes after this! This would make my stomach gripe with hunger - needs some protein with it to fill you up.
