Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

A small m&s side salad.

I saw someone have this and this alone for their lunch, and imply anything more is greedy.

I suspect competitive undereating*, but do you think this is tiny/normal/lots? I'd be bloody starving 5 minutes later 😂

*Unfortunately I've worked with a few of these in the past and just roll my eyes.

Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

More than enough for lunch...

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 28/03/2022 17:50

@BarryKentPoet

I'd need protein with it.
There is protein in the edamame beans.... but I doubt it would be enough to feel full. It's too small.

@Howareyouflower

I hate this sort of thing, making people feel guilty for eating normally. I was with a workmate once, driving about 150 miles, and I said "I know a lovely little cafe in the next town. We can stop for lunch". She said "I'll just have a cup of tea, I'm still full from breakfast" When I asked her if her husband had cooked for her, she said no, she'd had her usual breakfast at 6.30am, half a slice of toast with no butter and a scraping of low sugar jam.
THIS! This is 100% the vibe.

Well it would leave room for a packet of percy pigs mid afternoon.

DameHelena · 28/03/2022 17:51

Lol, no. I'd have it with some smoked mackerel and bread/crackers, or maybe if I had some left-over roast potatoes/other starchy veg.

carefullycourageous · 28/03/2022 17:52

150 calories is not enough for a healthy lunch. People who competitively undereat are no healthier than those who over eat.

HorribleHerstory · 28/03/2022 17:52

Wow, it’s almost like everyone is different Hmm

I like salads. I also like massive Sunday dinners full of delicious roasted things, gravies, sauces and a stodgy pud with custard, washed down with half a bottle of wine. I am happy and rounded. I am not starving myself if I eat a nice prepackaged salad for lunch. I don’t care how many calories anything has.

lljkk · 28/03/2022 17:52

Adult DD has an ED & would claim she was very full on that.
However, she rarely comments to me about what anyone else eats or should eat -- rest of us are big eaters.

FlissyPaps · 28/03/2022 17:52

If the person eating it was being rude about others eating habits how is this thread any better?

👆🏻This right here.

Unless the person eating said lunch is your DC then you have no right to say what is or isn’t sufficient for lunch.

We all come in different shapes and sizes and all have our own required tastes and eating habits.

You say they implied anything more than a side salad is greedy. How did they do that? What did they say/do? If you asked them something like “is that all you’re having?” they could have been offended and wanted you to mind your own business.

It’s unhealthy and rude to comment on other people’s weights/bodies/shapes/eating habits.

Papayamya · 28/03/2022 17:53

Everyone has a different appetite, but I expect the insistence that a 150 calorie salad is enough for lunch is quite telling. If I had it for lunch I'd have it with a protein, carb and some fruit otherwise I'd be ravenous not long after.

Sure, but the points are a) there's no real substance in it (it's short on bulky starch and protein) and b) it's TINY.
Duracellbunnywannabe · 28/03/2022 17:53

It depends what I was having for breakfast and lunch.

DoobryWhatsit · 28/03/2022 17:54

Did they eat all that in one sitting? With the dressing and everything? I guess they don't care about their summer body....

Badbaddog · 28/03/2022 17:55

@JungleJimbo

I would be STUFFED after that

Apple is so high in sugar, and there's a high cal dressing so would keep me going til breakfast the next day

Really can't understand how some people eat so much Shock

If this is a joke it’s in very poor taste. Eating disorders kill
UniversalAunt · 28/03/2022 17:57

That ‘garnish sized’ portion would just fit into my lunchtime sandwich.

HorribleHerstory · 28/03/2022 17:59

I know this salad as I have eaten it before (I like it but I don’t eat the dressing due to the ginger). And I am telling you, for sure, it has been enough for me, for lunch, on the days I’ve eaten it. If it hadn’t been I would have eaten something else as well. Because I’m not on a diet, I have never been on a diet, I do not competitively under or over eat, I do not calorie count, I do not know or care how much I weigh, I do like m and s salads. I have zero reason to say I’d be happy with that other than that, I’d be happy with that.

People can be different to you and not trying to criticise you, at the same time.

But they're not making you feel guilty at all. You say you want to eat, they say okay but they're not hungry yet. Then you quiz them about their eating habits and seem to come to the conclusion that they think you're a pig or something. 🤷‍♀️ That's not what they said.

Jongy · 28/03/2022 18:00

It depends on how sedentary you are and what your other meals are.

I like to have a decent breakfast, small lunch and then a slightly bigger dinner.

That salad minus the revolting cucumber would be more than adequate for me.

VyeBrator · 28/03/2022 18:02

The 'greedy' implication was people that have meal deals i.e. sandwich, crisps or chocolate and drink are greedy.

What words did they actually say though?

LucyFox · 28/03/2022 18:04

I honestly think that would be ok for me for lunch, but I might want an earlier dinner than my usual 7:30pm

CatherinedeBourgh · 28/03/2022 18:04

It would be fine for me, I rarely have lunch and if I do it would be something like that.

Have a large dinner, and a few snacks during the day. I don't have an eating disorder and am not particularly thin.

TatianaBis · 28/03/2022 18:05

I like that particular salad I’ve had it loads, usually with one of their prawn pots or calamari though.

Crimesean · 28/03/2022 18:05

@LottyD32

I love m&s salads, but the main ones, or the side ones as a side with something else.

The 'greedy' implication was people that have meal deals i.e. sandwich, crisps or chocolate and drink are greedy.

You say implication - are you sure you're not putting words in her mouth? What did she actually say?
RandomQuest · 28/03/2022 18:05

Personally I’d be starving hungry after that and I love salad and am very slim! I do get how you could be ok with it if say you don’t do lunch in favour of a big dinner, you’re doing a 5:2 diet, you ate a massive cooker breakfast only 2 hours ago etc. etc. I’m a big believer in eating when you’re hungry. But shaming other people for eating a normal lunch implies this person has some serious food issues.

Kuachui · 28/03/2022 18:07

i would just eat this for lunch amount wise but its abit boring. just looks like salad leaves and a dressing but amount wise fine. id probably have a little snack in the evening too
