This has just been reported on BBC News. He was only 50 years old. Thoughts are with his friends and family.

* While it’s sad when anyone passes, I’m surprised there is so much love for him. Foo Fighters funded & platformed AIDS Denialists, he was an anti vaxxer who thought vaccines causes autism. These kind of people are hated on MN, so surprising he is so loved and adored.*

^Completely agree but that is MN double standards for you

My understanding was that it was specifically Nate who created the link. No one from the Foos publically supported it since March 2000 and have done a heck of a lot more since. People are allowed to make misguided mistakes which they educated themselves on and have completely u-turned. Supporting Elton John's AIDS foundation, strong advocates for LGBTQ+, supporting and donating to charities for sex education and safety specifically regarding AIDS.

They recently cancelled a concert of their tour due to the venue not being willing to comply the band's wanted covid requirements. Their Covid fundraiser concert.

But yes, 22 years ago and a long long line of substantial actions where they have clearly learnt and developed and done better is clear mumsnet double standards Hmm

Mumofsend · 27/03/2022 20:16

And Nate personally has since punlically apologised.

Animum2 · 27/03/2022 20:23
this is probably my favourite foos cover of a queen song (with Rufus taylor)
Horriblewoman · 27/03/2022 21:22

Yes! This 100%

The speculation that's creeping out on twitter too is just disgusting to see.

Papayamya · 27/03/2022 21:54

Sadly speculation is pretty standard, I don't know why some people feel they need to know though, the cause of his death doesn't take away the impact he has left on the world of music and the legacy he has in his children.

Jellykat · 27/03/2022 22:05

Agree Papayama, why is none of our bloody business!

Winkydink · 27/03/2022 22:29

@JaniieJones under English law the duty of confidence (including to keep medical information private) continues after death so it’s always a shock to see things like this reported in other jurisdictions. Unfortunately once it’s been reported overseas it’s in the “public domain” so can be repeated by less reputable outlets here, or with quotation marks and qualifiers like “allegedly”. So invasive I agree.

@Fizzgigg

It's tough to be a fan of 90s American rock bands. Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Mike Starr, Kristan Pfaff, Stephanie Sergeant, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell all gone and in the last month Mark Lanegan and now Taylor Hawkins. And I'm sure I've forgotten loads of people.
Ah, have you read Mark Lanegan's memoir? It's just gutting. There's a few pages about Kristen and how they nearly got together. Not to mention his friendship with Kurt. The whole scene just seems tainted with so much tragedy.

Such sad news about Taylor. The Studio 666 trailers were such a hoot. The Foos are always such an absolute delight.

I don't understand how toxicology tests can be conclusive so early. I have had a friend ( mid fifties) die suddenly recently and her family have been told 12 weeks for toxicology results.

You are not talking about the same thing though. This would be a preliminary screen, not final results for a coroner.

For example, when you have a patient who is unconscious and you need to get some quick initial answers to treat them - pharmacology vs organic in origin, then a screen can be done not immediately but quite quickly so you have the information you need for optimal treatment. That’s different to the full results which will cover more substances than an initial screen and provide more comprehensive information which is your example which takes months.

Unfortunately he has died in a part of the world where there are no restrictions regarding medical privacy for the deceased and I’m guessing that country is, in a way, enjoying their moment in the sun and proving to the world how wonderful and efficient they are. No point going on about how they are breaching anything, they are not. Pretty simple unfortunately, if you want privacy after death then only go to countries who have that system. It’s just really unfortunate that he passed away in that country.

You don't know much about him do you.
GellerYeller · 28/03/2022 17:08

He mentioned his enlarged heart in a recent interview- that his Dr had spotted during what sounded like a routine medical and called it 'like a runner's heart'. No mention that it was a cause of concern.
If anyone thinks the band have problematic views maybe take a look at them playfully taking on the homophobic protests at their gigs by the Westboro Baptist Church, by playing disco and Rick Astley to them. Smile

Thanks for explaining.
Inyourhonor · 28/03/2022 19:01

The song 'Home' just came into my head and I suddenly got sad again. Just watched a lovely live version of it.

thesunwillout · 28/03/2022 19:04

I've only just thought to do a search on here, as I hadn't seen a thread on him.

It's just so sad, poor family, poor Dave.

Nothing more to add, just find myself sighing every half hour or so.

Rip Taylor Hawkins 😔

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2022 20:36

They have released a statement re the tour. Not a surprise at all.

OverByYer · 29/03/2022 20:58

The right decision, it wouldn’t have felt right going to see them without Taylor. Maybe in time that will carry on but I think it’s a long way off if at all.

I can't see Dave getting over this. Musically he'll carry on but not with the FF.
Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2022 21:03

I agree, DG will want to make music because that's what he does, but not the FF.

chimichangaz · 29/03/2022 21:16

Absolutely the right decision. I'm gutted I never got to see them when I had the chance 😔

Got my parents tickets the year DG broke his leg so they didn't see them. Got them again for this summer too. Just wasn't to be.
lazarusb · 29/03/2022 21:48

We’ve been lucky enough to see them twice and had tickets for July. Planned to take our youngest son this time. I didn’t expect the tour to go ahead but still gutted. I think this is the end of the band too. Don’t want it to be but it won’t be the same without Taylor. Still having waves of thinking it isn’t true.

FussyLittleFucker · 29/03/2022 21:50

The right decision but gutted we won't see them this summer...first time we've ever managed to get tickets Sad

NeedWineNow · 29/03/2022 22:21

We had tickets too, for Manchester. So gutted but totally understand the decision. I agree that Dave will continue to make music, but I can't see them coming back as the Foos for a couple of years, if at all.

TokyoSushi · 29/03/2022 22:46

That sounds like it might be the end of the band, or at least a very long break. Obviously completely understandable and such a dreadful situation, they must be absolutely heartbroken.

OverByYer · 29/03/2022 22:59

It does doesn’t it?
