Warsaw Russian is letting out a lot of smoke - there has been no decision on who among them will be the next pontiff.

Biden is going there Friday

Is Boris Johnson the designated survivor?

Who the heck let me be in charge?

Yes they're ongoing but so far appear to be a load of old bollocks

TargusEasting · 26/03/2022 16:38

To lose one General is a tragedy. To lose seven is just plain careless.

Careless isn't what hits me. There is some incredible reconnaissance, identification and execution by the UA to hit that number. Most generals are in Moscow or other divisional headquarters. To remove seven from the front line speaks to me of a specific objective. There is much going on, long before the invasion, and during it which we have yet to learn. And then if we ever do.

TargusEasting · 26/03/2022 16:39

Does anyone know what time Biden is talking and whether it is going to be broadcast in the UK please?

Ijsbear · 26/03/2022 17:00

That's the second major fuel depot the Russians have hit in two days.

Alexandra2001 · 26/03/2022 17:06

Biden was asked (at a refugee camp) what he thought of Putin and called him a "Butcher" and well done too.

WTF are the Russians doing firing Cruise into Lviv with Biden not that (relatively) far away?

Do they really want WW3 and see Putins precious fucking Russia destroyed? nuke or no nukes.

Either way, they are ensuring the USA is going to go all out now & so much for Russia is going to focus on Donbass.

AgnesWestern · 26/03/2022 17:08

I was feeling slightly more optimistic yesterday, but it seems like it’s all going bad again.

Sad

TBF to aim at Lviv and miss it by so much you hit POTUS in Warsaw would be quite something, even by current Russian standards…

EsmaCannonball · 26/03/2022 17:09

Further strikes on Lviv. Russia focusing on the east by bombing the west. Just shows how all the talk about strategy and negotiations coming out of Russia is just smoke and mirrors.

Natsku · 26/03/2022 17:17

I think the idea that they are just trying to take out as much strategic areas like fuel depots before focussing on the east makes more sense than them still trying to take the whole of Ukraine.

Finnish President has come out and said joining NATO will be Finland's safest bet. He wouldn't say that unless he was reasonably confident that Parliament would agree so looks like that will be happening. This war really isn't getting Putin what he wanted in regards to NATO, its just getting more powerful! yle.fi/news/3-12377853

Biden - on now

At least I think this is it and not a recording.

Tim White @TWMCLtd
#Ukraine's intelligence says #Russia withdrew many of its soldiers from the #Sumy region.

It's believed they headed back over the border to Russia. It's not known if they are being redeployed elsewhere or some sort of rotation. Numbers are stretched for the RU army.

MissConductUS · 26/03/2022 17:23

To lose one General is a tragedy. To lose seven is just plain careless.

I think it has more to do with Russia's command and control doctrine. The Russian chain of command is very rigid and lower level officers are not allowed to show any initiative. It's a very "first A happens, then we do B" approach. That's fine unless A is impossible or someone cocks it up or the enemy destroys your supplies. A big part of the retaining of the UA had to do with moving them to a mission command mentality in which troops and lower level officers are encouraged to improvise and adapt to changing circumstances. The Atlantic has a good article about it. You only get a few free articles so open it in a private browser tab.

Ukraine’s Three-to-One Advantage - It’s not technology or tactics that has given Ukrainian fighters their greatest edge.

The spectulation in American military circles is that the Generals had to move into the front line areas in all of the places where the Russian units were stuck to get them moving again or try to sort out what needed to be done. UA snipers are trained to kill officers first, the higher ranking the better. So when they see a bloke in a fancy uniform get out of an APC with massive antennas and start yelling at everyone, they shoot him first.

The other factor is likely that the RA went into Ukraine with very little secure communications kit. The UA and the American NSA is intercepting lots of their radio traffic, so in some cases they probably knew exactly where the Generals were going to be. Like in this instance:

My mistake, Biden is in Warsaw today. Typical MN that autocorrect changed his name to Boden when I posted.

Is there any more news on the French/Turkish/Greek plan to evacuate civilians from Mariupol?

That maybe so but the message they are sending the USA is not a happy one & it will not go unchallenged by the Americans.

Didn't Russia almost destroy the international space station recently, after blowing up a satellite?

They also managed run over their own Generals using one of their own tanks!

Took a 40 mile convoy into Ukraine and then ran out of supplies.....

I think you underestimate Russia's ability to fuck things up.

TargusEasting · 26/03/2022 17:54

27 minutes and no script. That was a good speech.

He was angry. He was resolute. He was specific. There was much in there for everybody.

"Don't even THINK about moving one inch into Nato territory. We have a sacred obligation...."

I liked the way he stressed the end of dependence on fossil fuel. I liked the way he had something for the Russian people. I like the way he said its the ordinary Russians who suffered in Leningrad and that what they had suffered is being suffered by Ukrainians today.

And "For God's sake this man cannot remain in power..."

"We are in it for the long haul. There will be a price to pay. But the light of democracy prevails over the darkness of autocracy."

I liked the granular detail of his speech. It is believable.
